Do tracking perks really get nerfed?
Was thinking about this after seeing another UW thread. Does anyone know of a time when a killer tracking perk actually got nerfed? I'm not counting BBQ, since the tracking portion wasn't affected. If not... I highly doubt UW will be the first.

The old Hangman’s Trick, technically. It had a 16m aura reading range around every hook on a PTB and then it got nerfed to 6m. Awakened Awareness was nerfed from PTB too.
I can’t think of any others.
edit: forgot about Pain Res originally having a notification which got removed in 6.1.0, so yeah that’s another one too.

I think the last major nerf to a tracking perk was Object of Obsession, but don't quote me on that.
Most of the nerfs are to tracking Addons I think, Leprose Lichen got nerfed very recently.
Distortion getting a big buff could be called a nerf to tracking perks in general? Maybe?

It was removed in 6.1.0, an update with the explicit intention of pushing players to use different perks after the community at large complained about the stale meta not changing for years. Given BBQ was one of the most commonly run perks and people were very open about running it for the bloodpoints, BHVR made the choice to remove the bloodpoint bonus while also massively reducing the grind that made that so desirable in the first place.
At the wider topic, I can't think of any off the top of my head. I suppose you could argue Pain Resonance getting the tracking taken off it could count?

Ultimate weapon already had a patch that made its tracking weaker, and the PTB contains another change that makes its tracking weaker.

Technically, undying had part of its aura reveal nerfed. It used to work on both lit and dull totems but now it only works on dulls.

Pain Res got the notification removed. For a brief time, survivors didn't scream but because of another perk they added it back.

I know about the bug fix on PTB that fixed survivors from screaming inside lockers but what's the first patch you're mentioning that made UW's tracking weaker?

One that comes to mind is Nurse's Calling, long ago it used to also work for things like Mending, Snap Out of It, Waking Up, etc.
Which made it a living nightmare on Doctor with impossible skillchecks (At the time Unnerving also affected the skill checks of Snapping out)
2 -
A Nurse's Calling (Reduced range from 32m to 28m, patch 1.1.2)
Awakened Awareness (Reduced 2 second linger to 0, from PTB to Live)
Discordance (Reduced Range from infinite to 96m and no longer updates every 8/10/12 seconds, patch 4.3.0)
Gearhead (Reduced activation time from 45 to 30 seconds, only activates on Good Skill Checks, from PTB to Live)
Hangman's Trick (Reduced range from 16m to 6m, from PTB to Live)
Hex: Thrill of the Hunt (First reduced the totem slowdown from 10% to 6% per token, also made Tokens tied to the amount of Totems remaining instead of unhooks while further than 24m away, patch 1.5.2. Removed loud noise notification, patch 5.3.0)
Hex: Undying (Now only reveals Survivors with Dull Totems, aura reading no longer lingers but is active as long as a Survivor is within 4m of a Dull Totem, removed Hex Totems transferring to Dull Totems, patch 4.5.0)
Shadowborn (Reduced FOV, patch 1.0.5. Removed clearer vision but removed being more sensitive to light, patch 1.8.3)
Spies From The Shadows (Reduced Range from 48m to 36m and added 5 second cooldown, patch 2.6.0)
Stridor (Changed audio to be multiplicative, meaning it no longer countered Iron Will, patch 5.1.0)
Tinkerer (Can only trigger once per gen, patch 6.1.0)
Think that's it when it comes to perks, there are some add ons as well that have been nerfed
EDIT 1: Corrected Hex: Undying, added Gearhead (Thank you @BlightedDolphin)

I think your right about object I use it from time to time and it can be useful if you know how to loop and prolong chases.

No, Ultimate weapon had a bug fix that made it work properly

Object of obsession got nerfed :( was pretty useful to track the killer

PR was tracking + regression perk. Nerfed.
CoB was tracking + regression perk. Nerfed. Tracking part did not removed but regression part nerfed.

I remember when Spies got nerfed, so there's that.

The original Ultimate weapon revealed a survivor even if they had calm spirit, and that got removed.
Ultimate weapon was made weaker. It doesn't matter what the official reason was. I'm not even using the "buff" word, so you can't just throw questionable word definitions at me. I'm literally saying the perk was made weaker, which is objectively true.

surveillance got nerfed. it used to keep generator highlighted in white even when the generator regressed fully. gearhead also received some various changes that make it weaker.

The Surveillance thing I would say is more of a bugfix. If the gen reached 0 then it technically wasn't regressing anymore and therefore shouldn't keep the white aura.
Gearhead did get nerfed from PTB, I forgot about that. I would also say it got nerfed when it was reworked the first time even though it wasn't intended to be a nerf. (Though the current version we have now is good)

I don't know. I still feel lost using gearhead. the perk would likely be better if the duration was reduced to 5 seconds but it highlighted 1 random generator that survivor works on in yellow.

Try it on Wraith, it works really well on him especially if you play hit and run (though you don’t have to)

i did it. info just doesn't feel instantaneous enough.

Fair enough.

Don't forget that Undying also used to show auras for survivors near Hex totems as well but now only does it for Dull totems.
The original Gearhead was also nerfed from PTB to live (originally showed auras for all skill checks then got nerfed to only be good skill checks, then got multiple reworks)

They wanted to remove incentives that made people use certain perks for only BP
but they least they could have done was give us more base kit BP or made things less expensive, the grind nowadays is worse than ever and it only gets worse with each new character added
0 -
They did do that? They did both of those things. After removing the BP bonus from BBQ and WGLF, they adjusted bloodpoint caps in match, started offering more ways of earning bloodpoints via role queue incentives and other sources, and make things considerably cheaper within the bloodweb.
The Prestige changes also stopped the grind from getting exponentially worse with each new character. They did actually fix these problems.

i mostly meant stuff like killer and survivor add ons, they were adjusted but the majority of them are still expense especially considering some of them are very weak and some downright useless except for very specific situations (cough septic agent cough)
besides, we have more important things than BP and if we really want to talk about money spending we should talk about them having a battle pass in a paid game

I don't really think they need to be adjusted further, but I was really only responding to your comment that "the least they could do" is make things less expensive because... they did do that. They did make things less expensive. It's pretty unfair to pretend they didn't because you'd prefer more of a reduction, y'know?

I would like to request we move on from this subject (I forfeit)
As a token of peace
please accept this soup ->🍲<-

Im ngl I didnt even know it didnt show auras next to hexes anymore, thats crazy
as for Gearhead thats something I completely forgot, how ever the only part I remember now is the activation time reduction from 45 seconds to 30 seconds. Doin a bit of research now how ever I can see the skill checks was also a thing.
Thank you mentioning it, Ill be sure to add them

in essence, its a bugfix that is also it nerf. removing hug tech would be an absolute nerf to blight even though it'd technically be a bugfix.

Deadmans switch technically fall's in the category of tracking with it's up time reduced down around the same time Pain Rez was changed. Also Predator, since the last time they changed it, it hides the scratch marks more than it helps show.
Doesn't really count since it was a bug that didn't make it to live but, Infectous fright for a small while showed auras for the scream bubble duration instead of the scream bubbles themselves.
