Pronounce Her Name
I've been calling her E - LOU - EDE since she came out!
I just heard a streamer call her something else and now I'm looking closer at her name and I have no clue what I was thinking! I do have a reading issue where I see letters that fit my brain but with long words that are complicated (like generic medicine names for example)
How do you appropriately say her name? E - LOU - EDE has been in my head for years now. This is so embarrassing 😳

I would say El-O-Dee but that's just me lol apparently it's eh-luh-dee

The guy in the stream says E-lo-dee

I always just call her E-LO-DEE lol

hi i'm a language nerd, but you can get even more accurate by saying "Ey-lo-dee", or / elɔdi / if you understand IPA.
It's the accent on the e: é. It's not really used in the English language, but French has so so many

So I was wayyyy off?

In your original version, yeah, kinda lol.
no one's gonna bat an eye if you get the E sound wrong, though.

And click on the speaker icon at the bottom of the window on the right (Élodie) for the French pronunciation.

Thank you 😊

El-oh-dee here

Interesting, I thought you pronounced it as a long E but my French is a bit rusty. And it was never that good to begin with.

I've always said it as 'Eh-low-dee', as in rhymes with 'melody'.

oh stop. Ur just saying that correctly because you are a BOT who took over for Nazzak when they DC from the forums. I know your type 😏

Yeah, it’s like Melody w/o the ‘M’
PaulieEsther is pretty accomplished at making certain names are pronounced correctly. I never knew Feng Min’s name was pronounced Fung Min until he explained to us in chat years ago.
Anyway, he pronounces Élodie’s name like that

Fung Min? No, I don't believe it.

Wait until you learn Feng is her surname and Min is her given name.

I learned that one last week

ikr😄 Here ya go tho, directly from the mouths of Mathieu Côté and Dave Richard, as they pronounce her name as ‘Fung’ during the DevStream 6 yrs ago for the Doc chapter release, in the presence of Gabby🥳 Luv her❣️

How can you learn any amount of French and not know the é sound? It's how you conjugate most of the verbs in the past.

As a french person the best approximation for English speaking folks would probably be "eh-l-oh-dee" with the "o" being short instead of sounding like "ow"

My French lessons were a bit, ehhh, well... Low quality.
0 -
For me it's like "Ellodee"
0 -
Eh-lö-dee
0 -
It's É-Lo-Dee as it is French.
0 -
Ello-Bebe

I remember when the chapter released someone asked this question and a mod replied that its ,,melody“ without the m

It's true it's a good approximation. But I believe enunciating an accurate "é" sound is difficult for an English speaker. They tend to do an "è" instead.

I say L Od

Bad at explaning things native french speaker here
To put it simply the "lodie" in her name is very similar to how you would pronounce it in english. The "É" how ever is the main culprit in all this confusion.
The accent at the top of an e is called "accent aigu", it basically turns an e into a more pronounced letter with an 'eh' or "ay' sound to it.
Best pronounciation I can think of is "Ay-low-dee"

Yes yes, all facts
I should probz’ve said it’s properly pronounced “Mel” like Mel-B or Mel-C from the OG Spice Girls n then the letters “O” and “D” respectively.
Mel-O-D
Tho it’s true, ppl from various regions will sound different when they speak the name. Most Southern US born n raised residents would sound like they’re saying “MayLahDay”😄
Luv English n Southern US accents btw🫶🏽

I love the different US accents I know. I love how they give a kind of different personality vibe of the speaker.
I couldn't place them on a map though. I have little knowledge of the US geography/regions/states. Most of it gathered from TV shows. For some reason "Tru Blood" comes to mind. (Many different accents in this show if I recall)
