If you think the killer is unplayable at the moment

Let's go back to 2016, where the game was at its beginning , when was the game was intended to be a game of hide and seek and not a competitive game focused on chasing

At that time the killer literally had no chance of winning the match

The survivors were invincible and the killer was the victim and hostage in the game

-At that time the maps were very large

-There were god pallets everywhere

-One structure contained two windows and two pallets

-Generators can be repaired in 65 seconds without using perk, item, or the help of another survivor

-The healing was only 12 seconds, not 16 seconds

-The survivors could quickly vault the windows from any angle, and the middle vault did not exist at that time

-The killer needed 2.5 seconds to vault a window and 3 seconds to break the pallets

-The survivor could stun the killer even if he was a little far away or behind a wall

-The killer can't kick the generators

-Survivors were able to repair the generator in one second using a "brand new part."

-Survivors were able to blind the killer in 0.1 seconds, there was an add-Ons that allows you to blind the killer faster

-Survivors were able to heal a dying survivor back to health in 0.1 seconds using just one add-on.

-There was no end game, they would open the gates and then bully the killer, and at that time you could repair all 7 generators even after opening the exit gates.

-The killer was not acquiring bloodlust effect

-Sprint Burst had a 20-second cooldown and could be used during a chase because the cooldown did not stop while running.

-There was a main building with 4 open windows on one wall

-Players could lower or raise the map lighting using offerings

There are many more

So be thankful that the killer now has a chance to catch the survivor at this time

I found this video of players who decided to play the game in its first version , They don't speak English, but that would explain how unplayable the game was

Go to minute 1.24 to skip the intro

I'm doing this because we hear complaint about the killer is unplayable and you're only talking about Mft, so other than that the game is much better than it was.

What current problems? Bhvr is aware of them all, IF there even are any. All we need do is wait and prattle on these forums until they do/don't do anything.

I'll tell you why it is unplayable for certain players.

Killers got huge nerfs along the way for a certain playstyle:

    • basekit BT (made it harder for Tunnelers)
    • removed hookgrabs (made it hard for Campers)
    • autounhooking (made it hard for Campers)
    • buffed Off The Record (made it harder for Tunnelers)

I could continue, but you get the point.

Are there people who say that killer is unplayable now?

Surely it's more rough than before, partially temporary because of survivor-sided event, but unplayable - I don't think there's consensus about that.

Of course, some people will always say the game is unplayable unless survivors hook themself at 30 second cooldown/killer gets his game uninstalled if he hooks a survivor twice in a row

That video also showed how actual facecamping was uncounterable back then. Poor Dwight didn't stand a chance.

While I can see the argument you wanna make, this is not the best way to make it. Yes the game was way different in 2016 but any game that has lasted as long as dbd is going to look VERY different 7 years down the line due to the addition of new killers and survivors and, more importantly, their perks. Also nobody knew how to play in 2016 for a good while and it took some time before it became a huge competitive scene. I will say many of the changes have been for the better they just dont always make all the necessary changes at the same time

Exactly what coco said above: people, more specific survivors, didn’t play like they do nowadays. Killer basics are way easier to understand; you saw a survivor, hit the hem and put them on a hook.

Nobody was looping pallets or chaining tiles together. Camping pallets was the way to go, that’s why there where double pallets everywhere and brutal strength was one of the most picked perks. And hide and seek was more popular due to no second chance perks and barely any aura reading.

Also the mindset of people was different, way less competitive, more casual and a lot more „meme’y“. When was the last time anybody saw an actual Dwight squad protecting their leader at all costs?

I mean... Kicking Gens isn't done that much now a days

Survivors back in the day was more about hiding rather then wanting to be chased... players had to learn the maps, perks and Killer powers

Who does not know killer is much better than old days except mori, certain perks?

Your point is like survivors should be thankful to killers because he/she's playing a killer for them.

Do I get the 2016 survivors and killers too? That would be fun for a while. Imagine, if we could experience Billy in his best days again.

But honestly, what is your point? The game was unbalanded and it still is. Yeah, it has gotten better but playing killer is still pretty stressful.

And killer players did know how to play? Everyone was on the same ignorant train back then, and gameplay in general was a lot rougher.

    AHAHAHAHA my sides hurt.

I remember a similiar list in the good ol steam discussions back when this forum didnt exist.

It did count big fixes as killer buffs too. Sruff that got buffed, nerfed and then slightly buffed again obviously was counted twice as buff.

Someone posted a list with thrice as much actual buffs to survivors as response.

I think nerfs were also on one of these kinda lists. But its been a while.

But I guess survivors did start at a much better place than killer, 170:110 change to 114:98 still doesnt mean its fair.

(Thats why i laugh at people who want a "fair" average killrate of 50%)

I just want them to add bot killers so all the killers can switch to survivor and stop complaining about how "stressful" it is. If the game is stressing you out, take a break from killer. And by that, I don't mean queue as a survivor just to be a hideous teammate.

For real, if you guys played for fun instead of acting like getting juiced is the end of the world, maybe we could ALL enjoy the game more. The only time I get annoyed as killer is when I'm trying to complete a challenge and I just can't because the survs are too good. But guess what? I accept my fate, walk around throwing random swings just to get them out the door and hope for survivors more in my skill range next match.

I would rather have a 2 minute gen rush game as killer where I still get about 20k bloodpoints than a 2 minute game of bleeding out on the floor because the killer wants a 4k at 5 gens and I get 2k bloodpoints. Get it? The game is always capable of being fun for killer because you aren't being downed and left to rot with no gameplay actions available, not getting left on 1st hook to die because all 3 teammates decided the gen they just started is more important, not getting tunneled out of the game immediately with no chance to do your challenge. The load screens in this game last longer than most matches for new survivors, and new killers get absolutely dunked on by an experienced swf, do you really think that's a good experience to bring in new players?

Honestly the problem with this game isn't the perks, or the powers. It will always be the mindset of the people playing it. Fix your perspective and stop complaining about every "advantage" the other side has. If more people played for fun instead of sweating all game, maybe everyone could enjoy the game.

They just need a competitive and casual mode, sweaty unfun strats would have negative results in casual with some tweaking to the unhook mechanics and such, maybe basekit unbreakable after a certain time limit downed to combat slugging, built in aura reading for killer (or auto killer instinct) if the killer hasn't found a survivor in a certain amount of time (i personally dislike sneaky builds on survs because it encourages the killer to go after the same survivors instead of spreading hooks because they can't find the sneaky survivors) and then competitive mode would be the current state of the game, with whatever tweaks would be needed to satisfy the competitive groups (idk, I'm not very competitive in this game, what the hell do you guys want? Lol)

Its a matter of skill. If i had all of my killer knowledge today back in 2016? I'd be number 1 easily because survivors generally didn't exploit that stuff to a big extent.

While the game has gotten more balanced since then, survivors have also gotten better, so they are still able to exploit things to their fullest potential more effectively than they were 7 years ago.

I couldn't care less what the game was 7 years ago. I began playing 2 years ago. My timeline with DbD starts then.

So the game went from being unplayble as killer to very unfun. Wow such a jump.

    There's a missed statement here -

Killer is unplayable for bad killer players.

It was worse at some point in time is never a good defense.

It was also a lot better before MFT and, arguably, better before the anti-camp mechanic. (Not speaking for me : I'm a Nurse main and I don't camp.)

I'm kind of eager for the announced MFT change because it means I'll be able to play weaker killers again. I love Nurse but sometimes I want to play something else than her or survivor.

Nurse, Blight, Spirit, and debatably Wesker are there. So they're fine

Every other killer depends on what you mean by "unplayable".

Games with subpar or mid level survivors sure they have a solid chance, a team of good survivors I would say no.

I wouldn't say having only ~10% of the killer roster be able to compete on more or less equal ground with good survivors means "Killer" is fine. But it depends on your definition of "Killer".

It's not like "Survivor" where everyone on the roster has the same power ceiling.

If you're not one of the dynamic quad-squad (Nurse, Blight, Spirit, Wesky) then you're gonna have to 'try' and win. Wont be effortless.

Some people don't like that and wanna "win win win!" without much effort. Thus, they complain. ITs an obvious cycle and very much ingrained in the DBD biome.

Probably wont stop. Threads like this even keep it alive lol.

Also, I think this is OP just humble bragging how long they've been playing lol.

You need to pick your words better OP.

Talking down to others by saying they should be “thankful” for being able to catch Survivors might work if you were some established authority on dbd and even then you would still sound condescending.

Also 2023 DBD isn’t perfect by any means. The moment game developers think they’ve perfected their game and can rest on their laurels is the moment the game starts becoming stagnant. DBD hasn’t even reached a point where devs can afford to be complacent. While the game has gotten better since its earlier iterations, it can be better. A good chunk of the active playerbase probably weren’t even around to experience how “unplayable” it was back then.
