Do people really want greater killer diversity?
I see quite a few different killers commonly referred to as 'boring to go against' and I wonder if people really do want more diversity in the killers they see in games.
People complain about so many Nurses, Blights and Weskers but when other killers are buffed or even just talked about in general, people complain about them too.
I've seen Twins, Hag, Trickster, Skull Merchant, Knight, Onryo, Legion, Artist and Pinhead all called 'unfun' to versus quite commonly, and I've also seen Wraith, Freddy and Plague pop up a little less commonly in such discussions as well.
It's hard to take people seriously who beg for more viable killers when so many of the other killers are so unpopular as well. Less Nurses and Blights would mean more Knights, Skull Merchants and Tricksters after all.
Why are so many different killers so hated?

i like playing against the most popular killers (wesker and blight) so no. unpopular killers are unpopular for a solid and understandable reason: they are boring. both to play as and against.

I'd rather play against the old skull merchant than get more hag games. Hag is by far the most horrible killer to play against in the entire game. Every hag game is exactly the same and it never gets anymore enjoyable. I've been playing a lot of scroll wheel hag lately and the amount of DCs I get is INSANE. Twins should be obvious since every game involves an excessive amount of slugging. Legion is hated because mend simulator isn't fun. Although this really depends on the player. Legion games were especially bad when the rework first went live. This was because every legion was obsessed with trying to get a down with their power. You just had to mend constantly since they would never chase normally. The games are still unfun but they are much more tolerable than they were.

I'm a Freddy main and I'm a blast to play with!

If we just got more wesker type killers with extremely high mechanical skill but a low skill floor with interesting counterplay then this problem would vanish overnight.

Hag is one of the easiest killers to disarm/bully if you know what you are doing. (I can't say much about knight as I don't play him because of its broken guards and I almost never verse him)

I see quite a few different killers. Many Weskers but also some Trappers, Wraiths (who I don't like playing against), Deathslingers and the occasional Blight. I would like to see even more killer diversity but honestly it's no wonder that some killers' pickrates are abysmal.
Nobody plays Twins, so I would be fine with facing them for a change but they're not the most fun killer to play against. There power is literally slugging. They get punished for not doing it and they can't prevent it thanks to that massive 8 seconds cooldown. It has been a while since I last saw a Hag but I would take one. Caitlyn 3Genner is still awful. Her chases are pretty boring and the chess play style still works. Knight leaves no room for actual looping and forces you to Shift + W. Not all that fun but I'll take him over SM. Sadako can feel pretty bad to play against. She just insta kills you and won't commit for long chases. Artist is not the most fun killer to play against but it's something different from what you usually get in a chase, so it can be fun for that reason alone. I really have no issues with Pinhead. As long as it's not with Original Pain / Engineer's Feng. That is pretty nasty.
I don't get why anyone would compare to play against Freddy nowadays. He is so incredibly weak, that you can do whatever the hell you want and it will counter him in some way. Plague is always a more sweaty experience. Survivors need to finish the game fast because they can't heal and the Plague will have to find a way to force survivors to cleanse. I have nothing against going against a Plague every once in a while but if her pick rate were to skyrocket I'd probably take a little break from playing survivor.
It has been so long since I last saw someone else play Hillbilly. I would really like to play against another. Unfortunately they are a rare breed.

I'm not bad as a Freddy main.

You have to understand "boring" here often means "too difficult for me".
It's easier to complain than trying to learn and to improve.
Be ready to see an increase of complains after the PTB because all the boosted survivors will die way more often for a while (and then will either give up or learn)

According to the last behavior pick rates we are already getting a good diversity of killers.
1 -
Then we'd have a new problem: all the popular killers feeling the same.

Holy....
I want to meet you.
Are your the prestige 100 Freddy from legends?

Lol no. I think I'm only P11 or P12 Freddy

I main pig.
That's a killer that's also not thaaaat common. I think.
Let's be real, every killer can be "boring" just as every survivor can play "boring".
Anti loop? Boring.
No anti loop? Boring.
Trap killer? Boring.
Zoning killer? Boring.
Strategic killer? Boring.
Stealth killer? Boring.
Looping wood? Boring.
Predropping wood? Boring.
Sitting on gens all game? Boring.
Doing totems? Boring.
All we can do is finding our own fun and not let others dictate how we are supposed to enjoy our matches.
That's what games should be: fun.
It should create a safe space where you can distance yourself from the stress of everyday life.
If you want to play Twins? Do it you absolute legend.
Blight main? Have fun running fast!
Your Nea-shaped hands are glued to flashlights? Enjoy the ride!
Taking this game too seriously is what makes us lose the magic of why we play it in the first place.
Therefore: play whoever you like, however you like.
And if the game is bothering you, don't ruin others fun with unwanted negativity.
Thanks for listening to my Ted talk.
Your local pig main: OUT!

I don't think it's that strange.
First off, there is no hivemind (I assume) so while certain opinions may be shared, there can be differences when specifics come up. While two people may both complain about an overabundance of Weskers, one of them could hate camping and therefore complain about Trickster or Cannibal while the other is more opposed to slugging and hate on Twins or Oni.
Additionally, there could be particular reasons not to buff something even if it is weaker. While some killers hate the current survivor meta and want to see more variety, if the proposed buffs are to perks like Breakdown, Saboteur, Boil Over, Distortion, Head On, etc, they could rightfully point out that it may make the game absolutely miserable to play regardless of its effects on the actual escape rates.

no they dont. probably the only killer that is 100% unique and doesn't go by the games rules is complained about 24/7. I bet thats why bhvr is sticking with just mixing killer powers together.

survivor just want every killer nerfed to have easy games. only killer ask for killer diversity so they can play different killers without being at a massive disadvantage.
4 -
How long until people realize that pickrate rarely correlates with strength? People pick what they enjoy, period. Hence Legion being such a disproportionately common killer compared to top tier killers like Twins or Artist who are amongst the least played in the game. It's the same thing in all character/class-based video games.

I dont get the hate with Hag shes super bad after her last nerf but even before that I'd say she was one of the more fun killers.
Idk which killers I think are fun now a days, most of them suck to go against tbh now lol. Maybe Hag, Pig, and Sadako can be fun but thats about it now.

Exactly.
Any time you figure out a good perk combination/strat, the survivors call it boring and if it's effective enough, they'll take to the forum/social media in an effort to get it weakened.

Why are so many different killers so hated?
Why do people like different flavors of ice cream?
Every human being is different. It's easy on the Internet to lose track of the fact that you are seeing the opinions of different people, not a collective group. Everyone has different likes and dislikes. For any idea you could come up with, there will inevitably be some person who wouldn't enjoy it. That's normal.
Yes, people want diversity in killers. That doesn't change the fact that each individual has killers they dislike playing (for various possible reasons).

People don’t want Killer with greater diversity.
They want a 32m TR 110ms Killer with no power that they can loop through pallet after pallet.

Hot take:
No, many people actually do not want that, i don't even think they understand that they don't.
People want the Killers they like to be picked and no one else. Its very evident even in this thread, something we have to accept is if we want the game to be balanced, we will have to live with Killers we don't like having a similar pick rate to those we don't. Everyone who argues "Yeah anyone but (insert Killer here they don't like for subjective reasons)" can't be taken seriously nor sound regarding balance. Just see the amount of people who claim a Killer they don't like is objectively bad purely for reasons that are completely subjective, i personally blame some content creators for spreading this rot.
Imagine a CoD player leaving bad reviews on fighting or RTS games claiming they are bad when in reality he doesn't even know how to judge the game by its mechanics, themes, style etc. and simply wrote a bad review because he doesn't like the game genre (which by itself is fine btw), that is how many here act.

I momentarily thought of the hag

Today I learned: Hag is the most fun killer ever.
She's also hot. I feel like playing some Hag now.

I learned long ago to just have fun. Going for the win can be a miserable experience against good survivors with certain perks. Even a competent survivor can do a gen quickly (seeing deja vu every single game).
I play fun killers like clown, huntress, ghost face and the odd Knight or deathslinger.
Playing for hooks is much more fun and if all survivors escape who cares?
On a side note I love trickster who I have at my highest rank of P12. I love playing him but on console he's pretty rubbish and I love the intended buff to his speed and no recoil will be amazing.
But even without it I just enjoy playing him.
So yes I play a lot of range killers but I play for fun and the odd wow that was some distance hit moment.
I also wheeled dredge out of storage last night and forgot he's pretty fun too.
But as I said play for hooks and fun not the win and I enjoy the game way more than I used to.

It won't be solved because huge ego problem was rooted since game release.
This is also common to killers I beleive.
Most survivors will hate killers who are annoying, boring, very strong 'unless they are bad'.
Game is more than 7 years old and they still hate camp, tunnel, slug, hit & run, many slowdown perks.
And if any killers who they hate win with strats they hate, they say killer don't deserve win and call the match was cheap.
Funny thing is they complain everytime and always click 'ready' button after game.
2 -
Maybe some people will still call a power-less addon-less Hag unfun because she can mindgame some loops due to her height.

I tend to use boring to describe killers who are allergic to chase, and are typically awful at it. It's not restricted to a particular character (usually), but a player play style.
Dropping chase to kick or patrol gens, or killers who are trying desperately to hold a 3 gen from the beginning of the game, for example. Can even be applied to the iri head huntress proxy camping a hook for free downs.
There's no actual gameplay there, just someone who's trying to play PvE gen kick simulator instead of DbD.
