Under what conditions do you let Survivors escape?

If your team specifically tries to kill you or bodyblock you I will let you have a front row seat while I slaughter them and escort you to the hatch. Other than that mercy is a thing of the past. Since I don't like running gen regression I need to be going full throttle and that leaves little time for mercy.

You're mistaken; that's all. No harm in admitting it.

Projection sounds like a well learned skill of yours

I'm not the one doing an inaccurate us versus them. It's okay; people make mistakes.
1 -
How is what I said an us vs them when it's the average experience of players. I didnt say anything about us vs them lol nice try rewriting narratives

Reread your first post. You literally stated something that was biased and objectively untrue.

I almost always let the last person hatch out unless they were toxic or cheating. The match is clearly over, do why not let them get extra bp? If I ended up stomping their team, I usually let the last TWO finish the gens, get some heal bp, then allow them to both escape. I'm not out to make the game a miserable experience for the other side. I'm a p100 ghostie, so I'm not in dire need of bp.
The exception is if I'm farming towards maxing iri 1 for the month.

I often give hatch when survivors played well and it was just in general a good game.
Even though toxic behaviour by survs (tbs after vaults, clicks, jumping in and out of lockers) is always an absolute no go. As soon as that happens in a match everyone dies. I always feel like these survs would probably see it as their right to get hatch when they are the last one alive and i would prob only strengthen their entitelment
1 -
I generally always let the last person go. If someone seemed particularly fresh or bad at the game, I'll let them go.
I don't tunnel, so I always let the unhooked survivor heal up. If they hop on a gen or try to blind me, then I hook them again. I hold a mean 3-gen as Ghostface, so whoever's still alive when that final gen pops gets to go free.
1 -
Maybe you need to reread. Saying something that happens when it does is not making anything "us vs them" it's stating that the idea of a killer letting survivors go is ridiculous and it is since it never happens in a real setting. It's not bias to say my own experiences
0 -
I only let a survivor go if they have a LGBTQ flag charm equipped.
Queer solidarity innit.
3 -
Keep in mind that many hundreds of killers can let people go all the time and you'll never notice it, because that's still a tiny percentage of the playerbase.
Also you must see that such killers are highly over-represented in this thread, as people who don't do that won't stop to say 'I don't do that'.
3 -
I don't doubt that there are killers who will allow for the last survivor to escape for any number of reasons, but in my own experience playing the game over the last several years I can say that this is not something that happens often.
Now I will say I play solo q alot and it could be that a teammate or two of mine have been giving the killer a hard time so that can also be a factor on why this isnt something ive seen alot of. Killers also seem to get mad at me for pallet stuns alot which is whatever but I notice that my fate is sealed when the first pallet hits their head.

I used to give hatch fairly often. When I started getting salty messages from entitled survivors when I didn't give hatch, I stopped giving hatch altogether. The hypcorisy!
How many times do you see survivors teabagging in the exit and then run back into the trial to give the killer a sacrifice? Almost never. How many times do you see the killer give hatch? Pretty often, to the point of killers complaining about the last-stand-off-auto-mori-the-last-standing-survivor mechanic (or whatever it was called) because they wouldn't be able to give hatch anymore.
Now, if a survivor in the exit comes back in and gives me a pity sacrifice, I pay it forward and give hatch next time the opportunity comes up. Hasn't happened yet.
1 -
You're precluding the experiences of everyone else. You didn’t say 'that doesn't happen to me'. You said the poster was the only Killer and then people proceeded to prove you wrong.
0 -
What people lol you're the only one here acting all condescending simply because you can't understand that this idea of being let go is not common in killer vs survivor game setting. I wish I had a ladder tall enough for the amount of reaching you're doing
0 -
I'm simply stating facts instead of trying to rewrite the narrative. Did you say or not say 'you're possibly the only Killer on these forums to do that' as you wrote on your first post. You then became defensive since I pointed out how wrong you were.
If you were familiar with the forums and not trying to do an 'us vs them' then you would have recognized that the OP's question has been asked multiple times before and each time multiple people stated they do let survivors go and under what circumstances.
I never said most Killers but it happens enough that I suspect the only people that don't see it occasionally are also the same people who BM the Killer at every pallet and just try to be obnoxious. If that's the case improving your attitude might help you.

You certainly like to sit and make assumptions as if you are some type of all knowing higher being. Again it's not an "us vs them" because it's not really that deep so chill TF out first of all. Secondly, I do NOT bm killers at all so get that thought out of your head because you do not have a clue what you are talking about.
If by defensive you mean I don't take any nonsense from a complete stranger on some online forums trying to act as if they are the rep for "killers out for kindness" then I guess I have a big ole tortoise shell on my back since you are in no position to act this way towards me in any capacity since you are quite literally nobody to me. If you knew anything about the forums then you would know that anything on them is not representative of the average gaming experience because the forums are extremely bias at the best of times and a complete joke at the worst. It's not unrealistic to not experience something that actually belongs at a much lower MMR since being a competent looper often makes you a target since killers hate being outplayed.
Learn some actual facts about me before you start trying to accuse me of being any type of way because you do not know me in any way shape or form to be telling me what I need to improve on or what I'm doing.

Of course I'm a nobody to you. That's why you write your super long responses to me. Perhaps I'm just making assumptions sort of like how you did when you said that you think all the players describing how they let people go are just 'describing the one time and that's it' instead of taking what they said at face value and in good faith. Your initial post was mistaken; no need to try to double down so much.
0 -
It's not mistaken and I stand by everything I said. Your replies haven't exactly been short and sweet you know so idk why you're acting all high and mighty. I also never stated that survivors are never let go, just that it doesn't happen as often as you want to act like it does in the average joe life of dbd. Maybe you can try not taking everything at face value but it's fine; everybody makes mistakes

i would let them go for a few different reasons.
any survivor who meme at all, baby survivors who clearly just got the game, or a god tier looper who i feel deserve to excape.
1 -
If they are clearly new players or if they sacrifice one of their items, I usually let them go. I also let a survivor go if their whole team decided to play selfishly or if one of their teammates decides to point out where they're hiding.
1 -
Well that's not even remotely true. I do it, I have friends that do it, and as a surv I encounter killers who do it with some frequency. The killer base isn't some sweaty monolith. Hell, when you get down to it anytime a killer doesn't slug for the 4K, they're essentially saying they're okay with at least one surv getting out (as they should).
There are tons of wholesome killers out there.
But anyways, on to the question:
- I'll let a surv (or two) go if their teammates are actively throwing and/or acting the fool (including sandbagging). If there's a three man and they are stiffing the rando, I'm going to try to make sure the rando gets out and the others don't.
- While much less likely than before bots, I'll often let a surv(s) go if they have a teammate or more DC or suicide on hook early in the match. Before bots, I almost always did.
- I'll sometimes let a surv go if they were really good and their teammates were total potatoes (i.e. a matchmaking victim)
- If two survs are left in an "unwinnable" situation, and one is still working on objectives while the other is hiding/scumming for hatch, I will almost always give every effort to track down/kill the latter and let the former go. I hate that isht as a surv, and I bring it to my killer play.
- If I find the last surv trying to open the exit gate and they offer up their item, it's a coin flip. Unless it's an Ace; all Aces must die. I hate their smug faces.

I almost always let Survivors go. I don't play Killer a whole lot because Killer games are just boring in general to me. I'll usually play Killer to get some dailies or tome challenges done. So once I complete those, and maybe get a hook on each Survivor, I'll just goof off for the rest of the game.

I've seen plenty of sweaty killers that don't have to slug for the 4k so that's not entirely true, I've also rarely seen killers let survivors go due to faults of their teammates since that happens all the time in solo q so I would love to play with those killers. Not even every killer I face is necessarily sweating but they also don't seem to pass on the opportunity to get the 4k if it's easy enough. Glad your experience sounds better than mine
1 -
I usually just let people go after getting them all to 2nd hook. I know it's bad for my rank and my mmr but I want people to feel better about their games as a whole by the end of their play session. I think it's really important to be a memorable, kind, and engaging opponent in every match.
I value fairness above everything else! (and I feel bad when people end up afk, I usually try to nudge them out of the gate at the the end with some help from their teammates)
1 -
It all depends if im having a fun match, i have had games where i didnt plan to kill anyone, i just wanted a bit of fun, but survivors were really sweating, and tried to blind me at all possible times, ending with me 4king them.
Also some times if people suicide or DC on hook 1, i might let the rest escape.
I dont play killer much anymore tho.

Gosh the power complex over a game. It's so unimpressive when killers use weak game play to win. Especially to rank up. But the best part is watching them get so wrecked because they can't combat loops.
When I do play killer I will sometimes 4k but mainly I let ppl go.
- Because killers like previous comments exist and it's just a game (weak game play makes the game unfun and I love this game. One win is not worth it for 5 ppl to be miserable)
- When survivors offer something or themselves I ignore it. (I will take out afking and let the team win because its frustrating as a survivor and I want an actual game. Anything similar to this like a survivor pointing out other players or purposely blowing skill checks)
- As soon as survivors start memeing. A few times survivors have crouched behind me and followed me. It was like a conga line. So easily they're safe.
- If a survivor clearly out played me or a game lag happens that was really obnoxious. I was pallet-ed the other day with a survivor in hand and they stayed in my hand. So I purposely dropped them.
Winning with an asterisk next to your name because you did cheap shots and couldn't keep your cool takes away so much of the experience of the game.
I will say survivors that are toxic are so annoying though so I understand some of the mentality. If I downed you multiple times and your teammates got you out stop trying to be the last person at the exit gate just to teabag like a 12 year old. It's embarrassing. And it's a big reason that more people aren't willing to let survivors out or will hit you doing a glyph.
1 -
If a Survivor does something cute or one of their teamates is either AFK, game-ended themselves on hook, or just hiding all game. I prefer to play in a more chill, memey way most of the time. I have more fun with that than trying to win my hardest.
1 -
If I'm drunk or don't care about the end result. Or if a survivor did something funny

I let them go for various reasons.
If I see that they can't handle me at all (for example, when I'm a Nurse), I can let one or even two go. When they hide very nicely in the bushes from the Nurse, but I still see them)
I also sometimes let some guys go down the hatch because they look sexy.
I let Ace go once because he was bothering me the whole game: sawing hooks, blocking the passage to the hook. And in the end, when there were two of them left, and I couldn't find the other one, he brazenly deceived me! He beckoned me to him, pointed somewhere with his hand and led me to the cupboards. I thought there was a second person hiding there. I checked the cupboards, but they were empty! And Ace was giving me a toxic tea-bagging in the distance! He infuriated me, but at the same time it was fun. I thought he was good and let him go through the hatch.

If I am not close to getting the next tier I will give them a fun game. I also like to play a few fun games at the new tier as I cannot depip and can give some enjoyment to others.

If one surv place 4 turrets in a square shape form then stand in the middle of it. They will become god of fire and be sparred.
1 -
Well, since the thread got revived I might as well give you my answer:
I always let a survivor go if they dropped their item or if they got sandbagged by their teammates.
Like that one Élodie who got intentionally sandbagged by a David, quite some time ago.
I will never forget her "Thanks Freddy".

Under what conditions would you let a Killer kill you?
1 -
When they help me with a frustrating tome challenge (looking at you, scourge of the purge)
When it's obvious that they are inexperienced and shouldn't be in my game
When someone suicides early
When they are running no mither (they are most likely doing a tome challenge/achievement)
When they are the last one alive (unless I have a tome challenge/achievement that demands a 4k)
When I see they brought bps/anniversary cakes, I will offer them the chance to farm
1 -
I treat events and event offerings as a peace treaty. Everyone wins a hook but walk out with lots of points. If survivors have no prestige levels because I want new players to come back to the game. No mither David King appears they are going for the adept trophy. I also ignore players doing glyph challenges.

If I see Yui while playing Spirit, Yui has a guarantee escape.
(a Ghibli iconic scene)

Outside of events, we only let people go if they get the 4% swing or earn our respect.
Necromancy is spreading like wildfire. Surprisingly funny.
1 -
My "Rules" for giving hatch are:
- Map Offering = no mercy
- How I feel at the moment.
- How they did in the match and If I feel bad for them.
2 -
When I fail to catch them they tend to get away.
Maybe if someone is still trying to progress the objective even in the face of complete defeat, you gotta respect gumption.
2 -
i have none. im a killer. im going to kill with no mercy.
1 -
Best reasoning i read so far. Teaching them good sports as both sides tunnel their objectives.
1 -
Pretty Simple:
1)If there is more than one disco/suicide, AND there is more than one gen remaining, I'll signal to the remaining two that I am willing to farm BP and then let them roll. Up to them. If it's down to 1 gen, two good Survivors should at least be able to give it the college try. The final Survivor in this scenario would then fall under item 3 below.
2)If the last Survivor has an event item, etc that they will lose by being sacked, they can go.
3)If the last Survivor signals to me that they are conceding the match(ie stop running, crouch a few times, set down any item they are carrying, etc), AND they have not found their way on to my Naughty List due to obnoxious in-game behavior or giving me ANY reason AT ALL to suspect hacks/cheats/exploits, they can have the hatch or a gate and be on their merry way. Unless I'm doing a challenge that requires a 4x. Then I'll message them after the match and let them know it was nothing personal.

When I playing as Wraith. I’m dreadful with him so use him as my fun times killer. I do get a chuckle trying to convey my intentions to survivors sometimes. I’ve seen whole games of them running around while I nod, stroll or passively hang around :)
