Im excited he is joining but im not as excited on how he will play with the scamper nerf, it all depends if revaulting a pallet counters.

I’m pretty excited to play him.

Going to make a Curse of Chucky build, probably all Hex. Been watching everyone’s Chucky footage, although that seems pretty dry now, only a few kept a backlog of Chucky games and release it once a day. I’m sad to see the PtB section of the forum is gone, I was letting it build up and wanted to read it all in one go but now it’s gone. Was funny trying to search Chucky on forum and see how many posts were ‘it’ll never happen but…I want Chucky’.

I’m here for the Iconic Killers and mostly only play them. I was an Old Freddy Main from the release (when I downloaded the game) till the remake. Chucky and Freddy are my favorites and I couldn’t stomach what they did to Freddy so my interest in DbD died a lot, but I got high hopes for Chucky. At the very least he has enough pull to bring me back and play for at least a solid month.

No survivor though? Thats a travesty, so many options and to not include a toy factory full of Chucky dolls, so many funny moments could have been created.

Chucky is the killer i always wanted to see in DbD.

So yeah i am excited but i am hoping nerfs did not make him unplayable.

I'm going to pass. His perks are really bad and Chucky himself is going to get nerfed more within a month.

The nerfs seem reasonable and the buffs are exciting.

Vaulting this fast after a survivor Vaults makes counterplay non existent. This part of the power is best at God pallets like in Gideon meat plant. The cooldown nerf also seems fine to me. Similar to Xeno you didn't really get punished for missing on the Ptb.

    Slice and dice got buffed!!!

That's what matters most, because that's the main chase power people should be using. Getting really good with it seems to be the way to go for me.

Chucky seems like a very decent to strong killer to me. Definitely A tier or top B tier.

I am super excited. I ended up watching all the movies and what is out of the TV series. I did want this chapter to be FNAF tbh but i am also very happy that we have chucky now.

Last time i was this excited for a killer was wesker.

I'm definitely instabuying and i will most likely get the tiffany legendary as well.

Also, i am super hyped for the trickster buff as well, i love trickster.

It's looking to be my favourite update yet in the 2+ years i've been playing

It's a good addition, though i doubt he'll play very well for us console users, but will get him regardless for perks. Friends till the end specifically as it combo's really well with a lot of perks, Myself i'll use it for my Artist to replace BBQ. Lengthy aura read and if hooking obsession it will proc DMS if obsession switches to someone on a gen, 20 sec exposed for close encounters. Essentially it's 3 perks in 1.

  • Devil_hit11
    Devil_hit11 Member Posts: 8,820

friends to the end is not good enough of a perk because duration of exposed is too short. 20 second is not enough time. the perk at least need to be 30, Maybe 45 second to capitalize off the exposed.

I like stealth killers, and I'm really excited about the third person killer mode. So even if he gets nerfed I'll probably buy him pretty soon.

I don't get why they don't just take a step back from chapter after chapter and just work on bugs, reworking problematic killers or subpar ones, add-ons, existing perks, etc

Because each time a big patch that changes things like this comes out there is no spike of playerbase, unlike when new characters come out. From a financial standpoint, new characters are what bring in the money not this patches.

  • awustzdn
    awustzdn Member Posts: 320

Friends to the End is not good, no. I'm sorry, but survivors need to be so bad at the game for a 20 second Expose to do anything that you could play perkless and take them down just as quickly. Friends to the End is definitely his most useful perk, but that's more a statement of how terrible the others are rather than how good Friends to the End is.

As far as him being another Wesker goes, I have real Wesker at home. Chucky may be fun to play right now, but he'll get gutted as soon as sales fall off and end up in the garbage bin along with Singularity, Xenomorph, and almost all of the rest of the roster.

This leaves the third-person camera as his selling point in terms of gameplay mechanics. And sure, he's the only source of that for Killer at the moment. If that's all it takes to get people to use a character then maybe BHVR should give Trapper a third-person camera.

    Why the negativity???

Xeno is still an alright killer. The tail works fine last time i played them (yesterday), tunnels are very fast option to traverse the map. Who says that Chucky will be nerfed????

I dont get this doomsday posting.

i don't want to go into situations like Wraith and Sadako into maybe capitalize off it. I am just saying overall, the perk needs buffs so you can use exposed on more then 2 killers. I just wish there was more variety in killer builds.

  • radiantHero23
    radiantHero23 Member Posts: 4,238

You wish for more variety, but you want this perk to be buffed.

I think its fine to have perks that work very well one some killers and not that good on others. Hoarder was a great example of it before they got rid of its synergy with pinhead. If a perk becomes too good, you will see it one every killer. That means less variety overall.

Could it be buffed? Sure. Is it fine the way it is? I think so, yes. I feel like its similar to make your choice. Good in some build on some killers but not great if the killer doesnt fit.

Nobody that plays killer seriously will use friend till end over regressions and gen-blocking perks. I just want a viable exposed perk that is as good as regression and gen-blocking. the perk design has potencial but expose number are too bad.

The other two perks are so far from good numbers that they're useless. hex perk and that battery excluded perk are dead perks on arrival.

idk man I just can’t feel any sort of reaction and honestly I don’t know why

  • CrowVortex
    CrowVortex Member Posts: 968

    I would look at it this way, it's a perk that can do a multitude of thing's;

    • It's a 10 second aura read on the obsession when hooking non obsessions, so that's information of where to go or to plan your next move.
    • It's a perk that can change your obsession to someone else and make them scream when hooking the obsession, handy if you have perks like PWYF, Remember me or DMS for the scream interrupt.
    • 20 seconds of the expose effect, sometimes you'll get use out of it on altruistic teams, but mainly on a mobile killer if obsession is a fair distance away.

It's a perk that can fit into a lot of builds and playstyles, that's the way i see it. Whereas the other two perks are more restricted in terms of what they can do or very niche at best.

  • Devil_hit11
    Devil_hit11 Member Posts: 8,820

obesssion is as much of weakness as it is strength. see most aura perk do not reveal themselves directly to the survivor. you can try guess that a certain perk is in play but it is never full definite. With Friends till end, You know 100% it is in play once it switches obsession. This makes much easier to play around aura effect by going into a locker to deny the detection value.

When you deny the perk's detection value, it is only left with 20 second exposed. Most killer that are mobile have special attacks associated with their mobility. this makes it hard for anyone to take advantage of exposed effect. Like blight is special, Oni in demon fury is special, Nurse is special, Billy is unlimited instant down. top-tier don't care about this perk because they're not going to use it over game-delay and info perks but non-mobile killers that m1 would want to try to use this perk to get exposed hit simply cannot use it because duration of 20 second is too little.

I'm very hesitant to buy him when he launches. As fun as he looked on the PTB, I'm expecting him to get nerfed within one or two months after launch. It's a question of how much he'll be nerfed.

I do really want the blinding perk though, that sounds incredibly funny to use.

    Ok....

Lots to unpack here. First thing i want to say is: You take this game a bit too serious.

Second, the "invisible" hitboxes are normal hitboxes. You should learn about the tail hit box and how it behaves. Then you would know what your hitting. Thats what i did and it works fine for me. I dont have the tail clipping through survivors. Could you provide a clip showing the matter? Im interested.

So Chucky will be nerfed after release..... What exactly do you base that on? On Xeno? The killer that got nerfed because they had literally no cooldown after the ptb for missing attacks? (The tail after the ptb was bugged. If you count bugs as nerfs, i dont know what to tell you) On Singularity? The killer that got buffed 3 times after release? On Skull merchant, who was and still is way too strong in certain scenarios and in my opinion only got changed, not nerfed OR buffed. On knight? Again, a Killer that got buffed and worked on a ton to make him where he is now. (Guards "work" + haste after placing guard to catch up, ...) Or do you base your opinion on Wesker, who was bugged after the ptb, then got worked to have a good middle ground between a too generous and too small of a hitbox. Even in the rework department, BHVR doesnt go back on some changes. Even at things that should be changed back. Case and point Sadako. Since summer shes in this awful state. No changes, no nerfs.

To say that Chucky will be nerfed based on BHVR's recent change log is downright wrong.

What happened from the PTB to now? He got nerfed and buffed the right way. A fairer cooldown, a fairer scamper and a stronger slice and dice to not be reliant on addons.

For the sake of argument, I take my money seriously, and new chapters for the game cost money. This is not a difficult concept. However, how seriously anyone takes the game is not a real issue here.

Bouncing off of what is visually thin air is what I consider an invisible hitbox. Calling it a normal hitbox is splitting hairs. Here is an example since you seem to think Xeno's problems are not real.

There's also invisible collisions over hay bales in Borgo, and a gigantic invisible collision box around Cow Tree. Those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head while I'm waking up.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I no longer believe that you actually play Xenomorph.

As far as tail strikes going through survivors goes, I shall refer you to a thread from two days ago that went virtually ignored, but has gifs of the exact issue. https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/397964/xeno-tail But you can keep thinking that the tail going through a survivor who isn't even moving is somehow a skill issue.

Chucky's predicted nerfs are indeed heavily based on Xeno, as that is the most recent killer. I see you choose to ignore the tail hitbox nerfs and the fact we never got to play with unbugged Xeno before she got nerfed. I don't play Skull Merchant but reception to her changes seems rather mixed. Sadako changes were taken poorly. The fact that you have to say that Knight "works" implies that Knight does not work even after being buffed, which means that BHVR doesn't want Knight to be playable. Singularity was designed from the outset to be useless, but the sales driver of that chapter was always Made For This anyway so it never financially mattered what BHVR did to Singularity. It's no coincidence that MFT's getting nerfed AFTER Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.

This is not based purely on their most recent changelogs. Pyramid Head got nerfed several times in a row shortly after his release. Legion as well. Cenobite had his best add-ons gutted pretty quickly. This also applies to certain survivor perks. Mettle of Man and Circle of Healing come to mind immediately, as they were released in massively overpowered states, left alone for a bit, then nerfed once sales dropped off. Reassurance as well. They've got a long history of nerfing things with really suspicious timing.

The changes to Chucky as he is now appear fair, yes. But I'm preparing for the worst and am going to wait and see if he remains worth the money a couple months from now. If he gets nerfed in the meantime, then I lose nothing. If he doesn't, I still lose nothing except a little playtime with him. His perks are so bad that they won't drive sales and there's no new survivor with the chapter so there's no sales there, so BHVR's marketing strategy right now must be to rely on the popularity of Child's Play combined with the in-game design of Chucky. If Chucky's weak, then they have absolutely nothing but nostalgia for marketing, so Chucky has to release strong. But Chucky cannot remain strong, because it'll make the majority of the playerbase (survivors) complain endlessly, so Chucky will get nerfed as soon as the money flow slows. It's just going to be a typical bait-and-switch from live service game developers, the signs are all there.

I'm pretty sure there's 100's of Killer mains out there that never use regression or gen blocking perks and still play very well. I haven't ran anything other than information/aura perks for over a year now and still win most of my games playing a number of different killers. Too many people rely on gen regression to win games instead of focusing on pressure through downs/hooks/injuries.

That's why so many people started losing badly after the nerfs to gen regression a while back. People became way too reliant of a particular set of perks and couldn't adapt their playstyle to compensate. It also locks you into the same boring perks all the time and stops you experimenting with new fun builds.

    ok....

    Again, lots to unpack here.

Yes. I do. I do play Xeno. I play Xeno a lot. Actually, i want to make them my thitd p100 project because i like this killer that much. I also bought almostz all the skins for this killer because you started talking about money. I take this game serious, because i want this game to improve and because i really like the premise of DBD. Thats why ive been playing this game constantly for 3+ years. I think however, that all people need to differentiate real life problems from problems with a game. Believe me friend, i learned the struggles of real life the hard way. Thats why i say, that you take this game to serious. Its a game. A game is an entertainment material. Nothing more, nothing less. If the game gets this hard to you that you only think about its balance and if something is competetively viable (for you), you should seriously reconsider taking a break because you dont seem to enjoy the game for what it is anymore and see it as a job. I have seen this happen to a lot of players.

Not to Xeno. This is what i said: Second, the "invisible" hitboxes are normal hitboxes. You should learn about the tail hit box and how it behaves. Then you would know what your hitting. Thats what i did and it works fine for me.

Now lets look at what i said because i have the feeling you got it wrong.

    YOU ARE CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!

The tail hitbox looks extremely wonky. It sometimes looks like it hits air and clips through survivors. Thats why i asked for video evidence. I knew what you where refering to. Thats why i wront what i wrote. The "invisible" hitboxes are normal hitboxes. Thats how the game works. This is the kind of skill cieling many killers have to play around. Hillbilly, Bubba, Blight, Huntress, Slinger and many more have a very similar issue. Even on Pig i encountered this problem in my 2k hours of playtime on her. The ambush can get stuck on "invisible" hitboxes and completely stop the attack. I actually called them "invisible-ambush-hitboxes". Lovely accurate. This is a overall problem of the game.

How do we deal with it? We learn and play around it. On Pig, i literally started to learn about all these invisible-ambush-hitboxes. Where they are, how they work and how i play around them. Thats experience. Bug-based skill expression. Most Blight players have even adapted these kinds of bugs and made them tools for better gameplay. Same has been happening to Wesker players if i recall correctly.

Going back to Xeno, i will help you out with a nice video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlh9IjJEIsw

This is how i learned a lot about Xenos tail. The tail hitbox works very different than its visual feedback. If you not only understand how this works but also how survivor hitboxes work (a topic that has been discussed and explained a lot on the forums up to this point) you will solve your hitting-survivors-problem relatively fast. I trust your skill in that.

Is it bad that the visual feedback is this awful sometimes? Yes absolutely. It sucks that it looks like you hit through the wall but still hit the survivor and it sucks that you hit the survivors model but clip though them because the hitboxes didnt collide. But thats it. You didnt hit the hitbox of the survivor.

On that, i dont think i said anything wrong.

Now to the killers. Is it bad that we didnt get to try out the unbugged cooldown on Xeno? Yes! Is it still fine? Absolutely yes! The killer is still very strong if you understand its hitbox and therefore hit most of your attacks. The cooldown nerfs from where justified. A killer should get punished accordingly for missing. Same with Chucky.

In terms of Knight, i, and many others should feel insulted. The killer is buggy and addon dependend, but he definitely works. If you dont trust me, take a look at this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYrmThARPuo - Guide to the Knight from a very invested Kight main

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W2_zooiqu4 - Guide to counter the Knight form the same very invested Knight main

Same can be said about Singularity, a killer with an extremely high skill floor and cieling, that most people really enjoy SINCE LAUNCH.

    Some examples are:

Or even our lord and saviour: OnePumpWilly

Calling this killer useless is downright unjustified.

To the other killers we go. All the nerfs you mention where done for the overall health of the game. Pyramid head m2 into m1 was stupid and had to go. Was the solution the best option possible? Maybe yes, maybe not. Would have to try other alternatives out. Pinheads engineers fang is a strong addon still. You literally cant unhook against this addon. A funny youtuber at the name of Choy actually went on a win streak with this addon and literally didnt lose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh0DzRW4yBM

I (luckily) wasnt around back then when the Legion released. I however know that they where one of the most unhealthy characters ever released into the game. Im sure some players like @Pulsar or @Dwight_Fairfield experienced that time of DBD and can support me in that the changes to this killer where VERY welcome.

To perks. With mettle of man, i agree. Circle of healing was extremely unhealthy for over a year. It took a very long time for BHVR to finally attack the problematic part of the perk, being the self healing aspect.

Last but not least, DBD sales because of its premise. Its a "horror" game in which you can chase Steve Harrington as the Shape on Gideon meat plant while Cheryl Mason is healing Jill Valentine and Ash is finishing a generator. Thats the main selling point of not only the game but all the licenses. This is also the main selling point of Chucky. All his voice lines. All the animations. Thats what drives people to a character. On top of that, Chucky is a strong character for people that play this game more competetively. Nothing wrong with that. Saying that a killer gets nerfed just because survivors complain is also needless us VS them so.... Yeah. Just look at how long Bubba was able to facecamp without any measure takes against it. They even posted a picture on twitter, when people where scared about Bubba being removed, where he was facecamping a survivor. They embraced a meme, that made a TON of survivors ragequit really fast.

I dont think that most of the balance desicions in DBD are based on commercial reasoning. Just look at Freddy. The killer is horrible. His perks are bad, memey but bad compared to other perks. No skins at all. Freddy is a killer that you actually need to pay for if you want to play him. Contrary to this we have Wesker, another licensed killer, that is recieved as pretty strong. Was he nerfed from PTB to live? Yes. His hitbox was way too small. This wasnt liked by BHVR, so they adjusted the hitbox to find a nice middle ground. The middle ground hes sitting on now for a long time. No changes, although survivors complain about him.

Balancing decisions, although sometimes being a bit wonky, are based on REASONABLE player feedback and a basic understanding for what is healthy for the overall game. Sure, there are some exceptions (Sadako) but generally speaking, i dont think BHVR is this antagonist that just wants your money and doesnt care about your experience at all.

I challenge you to reconsider your perspective on the game, certain characters, learn about the games mechanics and also its flaws and most of it all enjoy the game for what it is. A buggy, unbalanced mess.

Thanks for reading and im looking forward to your response.

Barring SM, Old Legion is the worst Killer DBD has released.

Simultaneously weak and OP, OG Legion was the epitome of uninteractive game design and was quickly deleted.

New Legion really isn't that much better, but he's fun to play as, at least.

I think you and I just have fundamentally different views on BHVR's practices and motivations. I assume their decisions are business-based and are completely intentional. I also just plain don't care if their decisions are intended or are mistakes, since the outcome for the consumers is the same regardless. I'm unlikely to ever give BHVR a charitable view.

You give them much more slack than I do because you assume not everything they do is intentional. You appear to be okay with the game being very sloppily put together. We're not going to see eye-to-eye on what is acceptable to sell to people.

You're definitely right about one thing though. I don't enjoy the game anymore. I haven't for a very, very long time. Whether it's through malice, greed, or sheer incompetence, BHVR's made the game unenjoyable. Once the current rift's done, I'm uninstalling.

I would have prebought this DLC if it let me. Even if there was no real benefit/added bonus. I just would have felt hyped to click "purchase" on it LOL. I'll be getting it first thing tomorrow for sure, and the Tiffany skin too. I may even play with the Tiffany skin first XD. I wonder how many skins he'll have in the shop aside from Tiffany. I would think not getting the scarred version from the Bride of Chucky era would be leaving money on the table. :)

That's sad to hear. Doesn't mean, however, that other people can't enjoy the game and it's content.

Yes, I feel that many things BHVR has done happened by accident. I don't think they put in bugs into the game just to troll people. I think it's genuinely the game having spagetti code. Am I fine with it? No. Can I change it right now? Also no. Things in this game tend to take longer to be fixed. All I and many others can do is either adapt or point out these problems.

If your not enjoying the game anymore, it is as I said, a great opportunity to step down and take a break. The game will not go anywhere, as you said.

But don't try ruin others expectations or excitement for something they want to enjoy. They don't deserve that.

I hope you find something else that entertains you and brings you joy.

That's what games should do after all.

I think it's case by case but in this case since they've advertised it on their website I'm betting on that it will be available when the DLC drops. I think the Chris and Claire skins dropped for Leon and Jill the same day... I THINK. I could swear seeing streamers play the day the Nemesis chapter came out and thinking "Is that Chris Redfield?" LOL. But I would bet 95% yes, it should.
