Freddy main here!
Freddy is a very hard but rewarding killer when pulled off correctly. His only weakness is a 4 man SWF, but he is otherwise able to apply pressure extremely well.
Discordance is an extremely good perk for him, as it lets you find groups of survivors and sleep them. Having as many people in the dream world as possible is optimal, and given the choice between sleeping another survivor and hitting an injured one, always sleep first.
His best normal gameplay add-ons are the movement speed ones (Rake, Claw, Paint) and skill check ones (Wool Shirt, Green Dress, Blue Dress). The 3 second sleep slowdown is actually more detrimental than you'd think, and having the extra speed is extremely beneficial for getting the quick first hit. The skill checks are also good for keeping pressure on survivors by keeping them in the dream world longer.
His second best normal gameplay add-ons are transition time (The Blocks) and sleep distance (Drawing, Sketch, Masterpiece). The blocks are a beginners add-on, and you should only use them as such. They ruin the mindgame of the 7 second transition sometimes. The distances are good for getting that little bit extra leeway on sleeping pesky survivors.
At the start of the match, play Freddy much like the Wraith. Walk around, sleep whoever you find, and chase/hook them. You can use the transition time/movement mindgames to get really easy first hits.
Freddy is a little bit like hag in the late game, in the sense that you don't really want to commit to chases. He's a hit and run killer, and you should only down survivors when it's easy to. His ability also allows him to keep lockdowns on certain areas of the map, if survivors dare enter them.
Any other tips you want/need, feel free to ask!

sometimes its a good idea to stop a chase to go after someone else if you see them because now that survivor you were chasing has to worry about waking up.

Use Make Your Choice or tunnel. If you try to go after the rescuer without MYC you're doomed. Consider Save The Best For Last, as you can just ignore the obsession if you don't put him to sleep. He won't be able to force you to hit him. As a hit and run killer Freddy does well with STBFL. People will also unhook in your face which means you can quickly down them with STBFL.
Oh, and Haunted Ground is also good because they'll pop the totem right in your face thinking it's ruin and that getting hit once will be worth popping it.

Freddy's strenght comes from his Dream Transition.
Whenever you dream a survivor you have to start counting to 7 after Freddy closes his fist.
After 3 seconds you become visible for 2 seconds, then you become invisible for 2 seconds, that means you have around 2 seconds to change directions and hit the survivor from another spot.
I suggest you check this video for the exact numbers and more tips:

By the time Freddy's hand leaves the screen, it's about 2.5 seconds, and by the time you react and finish counting 3 in your head it will be 3 seconds. I find it's much easier to time when you start from 3 once the hand is gone. This gets messed up when sleeping multiple survivors and going after the first one though, so don't do it in those situations. So you can start giving false information as soon as the hand leaves the screen, and then about 2 seconds later you're invisible until just before you can hit them.

Blood Warden + NOED can be very strong on Freddy and give a fun end game. To be fair, blood warden is kinda a must in my opinion

I Main Freddy, finally got my Prestige 3 <3 Besides the other tips I'd like to say that he is a slug master and can potentially be the best at slowing things down. My best build on him is Sloppy Butcher, Knockout, Thanatophobia, and Remember Me. After Plague comes out I might switch this up.
Basically you can slug your Obsession every time you see them and hook everyone else. If you have a hard time finding your Ob then go on a rotational slugging and hooking every other person, having 1 Survivor on the ground hopefully at all times. This way they're always under Thana which will be powerful soon, their numbers are split on objectives, and if you screw up you have Remember Me for one last chance. Freddy has Aura reading so he always knows where the slugged person is, if they disappear then you know where 2 Survivors are.
Using Monitor & Abuse on him is great for interceptions, letting Survivors run off during Dream Transition. Once you see their Aura they know you're not chasing them and they start running towards their Objective, with you getting real close and intercepting them around the corner with a hard ######### slap.
Last tip---you can walk through awake Survivors, you have no collision, if you get close enough while an awake Survivor is bodyblocking someone in the dream you could potentially swing through them hitting the sleeping Survivor. But remember there's auto-aim so you have to be close and practice.
I play on PS4, if you do too hit me up, I have same name.

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned this so I’m going to bring it up. The Nightmare is the only Killer who can use Insidious effectively without camping.
Obviously you can’t camp with Freddy. Survivors take a while to fall asleep and you can’t stop your lullaby. Insidious is great to use in chases though. Freddy can see the auras of Survivors who are asleep, as long as they are outside of his terror radius. Using Insidious, you can hide behind a LOS blocker around a loop. The Survivor may think you left and walk by, then you get the jump on them. This doesn’t work if the Survivor decides to leave the loop in an entirely different direction though.
The possibilities of Insidious on Freddy are endless, because of how auras interact with his terror radius, and because of how well he blends in with the environment.
