Why do survivors drop their items?

I really don't get this. It happens in two scenarios. The first is if the killer farms and lets everyone escape. If I see a teammate drop their item, I grab it and leave.

The second is if they have finished using it, but why? Why set down a green or purple item? If you escape, you keep it!

I don't get it in the first example either, like, I'm sure the killer knows you're grateful for the farming but the killer doesn't get any extra points or anything because you gave them an item, and if I'm there then I'll escape with it lol

I just don't get it.

You can leave your item to the killer as a token of gratitude. I do that when I'm let go along with a lot of nods.

For the 2nd scenario: Is it possible they have a killer item? Wesker's spray, for instance.

You need to put down one item so that the 2nd can be used as your character is only holding one.

A 3rd scenario I can think of when you want to be healed but the survivor would rather be elsewhere. So, they give you the medkit for use.

In the first scenario or similar ones they're just thanking the killers. You can be sneaky and take the item but killers could kill you over stealing their gift (which is fun in my opinion, had a game where a Dwight stole a gift and I spent the match chasing him to get it back)

For the second scenario, the item disappears if you're locked in animations so it tips off killers and makes it much harder to fake vaults for example.

There's also instances of dropping items to prevent Franklin's.

Also if it's out of charges they could be heading to a chest to try and get another. In any case, unless they are specifically bringing it to you or you are grabbing an item left after someone dies on hook, it's pretty bad form to swipe it.

I'm witnessing this usually after I die. I'll see a Survivor deplete the item, then drop it. I yell at the TV 😆

If they're going to find a chest they should at least keep it until they find one.

To be fair, it's harder to sneak with a bright red med kit than without
