Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Why I think crosshairs should be an option for this game.

I actually have a few thoughts on this topic. Especially regarding Huntress/Trickster and why the "gamey-ness" argument is actually very bad.

While i know what BHVR means with "gamey-ness" (aka Immersion), however i think it really holds no real value for DBD beyond making it completely optional, because its vague and seems to be no argument about it when it involves other Killers and Survivors. Not to mention 3rd-party cross-hairs (which often come integrated in monitors and got promoted in the answer), accessibility options and other features in the game kinda go against this philosophy already for good reasons.

  • Survivor Hud elements like the visual terror-radius which are options in the game for a good reason is not seen as going against the "gamey-ness" even though they can be seen as immersion breaking by some. Not to mention EMPs, Dredge locks, Knights guards having immersion breaking hud elements and Flame Turrets showing the AoE before they are even activated.
  • Huntress can already align her shots perfectly by using hud-elements in the game, especially the letter W on the "throw Hatchet" prompt, making the argument against cross-hairs even less valid especially when BHVR gives Artist the ability to aim and more or less promotes using overlays themselves.
  • The Artist can aim her birds perfectly to snipe people across the map with the help of a Hud element, a benefit the other ranged Killers are not allowed. This is for the better as it encourages Artists to use her birds as a sort of long-range combo weapon instead of just following survivors and drop them at loops. If you'd remove it and therefore hinder her ability to carefully place and aim them you'd encourage Artist to merely drop them at loops, making the game worse for everyone. I think therefore giving Huntress/Trickster a cross-hair would cause them to use their blades more in longer-ranges and creative ways, and changing up gameplay significantly and making them more fun for both sides.
  • The only ranged Killer who doesn't need it is Deathslinger as he can't fire without carefully aiming with limited range anyway, however he needs some sort of standardised iron-sights (along with a 24m lullaby), currently skins can help or hinder his aim a little bit, giving him a bit of a pay to win/pay to lose aspect.

TL:DR I think cross-hairs should be an option for those who want it, it only affects the game positively for everyone. You'd help newer players out while also having more matches where Tricksters and Huntresses use them interestingly at range/cracks rather than just following you and hit you during locked animations.
