Should Spirit Be Reworked?

I feel like current Spirit will always be a conflicting topic for many people.

Spirit is definitely not weak, I still think they are a top tier Killer, but you hardly ever see them nowadays, I kind of lean towards them being one of the more rare Killers to come across.

At the same time, Spirit is in a weird position with their current power, it is very inaccessible since it relies heavily on audio, making them really difficult for people to play as/against if they have a hearing impairment.

We've also seen a lot of perks introduced that reduce her effectiveness in chase, i.e. Iron Will, Light-Footed, Lightweight, and Off The Record.

I kind of lean towards Spirit needing a rework, mostly because I think they are an inaccessibility nightmare for both sides. But Idk, how do yall feel?

Yeah, Spirit has fallen from grace. Maybe you can still do well with her, idk, but she is definitely not what she used to be.

And she is indeed pretty rare now, at least in my experience she is as rare as Freddy, and that sure as hell is a sign that something isn't right.

I will never ask for a killer to be fully reworked because of what happened to my precious Freddy, but I do think Spirit could use some reversions. We could go through the older versions of Spirit, see if there are any aspects of her power that can be brought back, or maybe a few add-ons.

Theres gotta be a way to do that without making her overpowered.

She’s still strong it’s just that people aren’t interested in her I guess. Her only big nerf was actually being able to hear her during phasing which a average person won’t be able to hear

If you say so, old friend.

I genuinely have no idea. Haven't played her recently and I've only seen her once since I came back to DBD.

    Former Rin Yamaoka main here,

Everybody was too blind to see and understand that giving a indicator that she was using her power, butchered her kit.

On top of that, with how frequent sounds break and perks that literally nullify all survivor sounds, why even play her?

I still possess a lot of love for Rin Yamaoka, but from a survivor prespesctive she's been added to my list of killer's I don't enjoy playing against because all you need to counter her is "A good headset" (as we used to say back in the day if you wanted to learn her)

Are you referring to the animations she used?

The only indicator was a bug where her hair's animation would reset but depending on when they starting phasing you wouldnt see it, which eventually got fixed anyways meaning it was not even sufficient counterplay to begin with. She never had an official animation for when she started phasing.

If I remember correctly there were a lot of myths spread around regarding "when she started phasing" that turned out to be untrue, such as:

    • "Her glass shards would sparkle when she started phasing," was completely untrue, I dont know how people even thought that it was a thing.
    • "Her hands move upwards when she started phasing," was also a flat out lie used to mislead people since that was just part of her idle animation set.
    • "Her facial expressions would change," was also not true since her facial animations are independent from other animations.

She needs an add-on rework someday.

Her green to iri add-ons are all terrible except Rusty Flute, Mother Daughter Ring.

While I don't see Cherry Blossom is good (because Spirit's best add-on combination is speed + recovery speed), it completely kills survivors counterplay reacting to her directional speed and not a good design.

Yakuyoke Amulet got a huge indirect nerf after duration add-ons stopped synergizing with recovery speed.

Wakizashi Saya, Furin are very situational and not helpful.

Green add-ons except Katana Tsuba and Flute are pure garbage, no need to mention.

MDR is less busted than before but +25% movement speed is still too overkill when yellow Muddy Cap only increases 10% movement speed. Ring is an iri add-on so I can understand its strength but the gap between them is so huge. It costs too much to use MDR and Muddy Cap isn't fast compared to MDR.

I'd suggest removing DCB and adding new speed, charge speed add-ons better than yellow at best.

Spirit just needs the directional audio to respect sound occlusion, like it did when it was first released.

The 1st directional audio patch wasn't the thing that drove away most the Spirit players. It was the 2nd patch that buffed the directional audio that drove away most of the Spirit players.

She's still fine. Her pick rate dropped off as her add ons were gradually reworked to force players into actually using her power effectively. The directional audio can hurt you on longer phases, but it's not different than using a red stain mindgame at a loop. You have to fake with it sometimes.

Perhaps it’s the prevalence of Iconic licensed killers which decreased the popularity of unique killers.

I’m personally encountering less killers that were designed by the developers, with the exception of a few powerful ones like blight.

Maybe it’s just my region but I have encountered a lot of the licensed stealth killers since I started playing again.

I don’t think spirit needs to be reworked tbh, I remember the time when she was the main focus on the forums and one of the prevailing concerns was that Spirit would be too finicky to tweak. A concern which may have been valid given how she basically phased out of existence from the game since her last rework was released, but I am still not sure if this warrants a rework in her abilities, the community does have the tendency to overreact whenever the developers change anything in the game.

But if the developers are to rework her again then what would her new power be like? I don’t really know how they would change her power while staying true to her character, and by that I mean that she is the doppelgänger Sadako/ Kayako.

You know, now that we have the xenomorph killer and it’s animation of walking on all four legs, then perhaps we can give a similar animation to the spirit to make her more creepy, making her more of a contortionist.

Exactly why I quit playing her. It's just so safe for survivors it's easier to just play Nurse. Some games I get blasted and some I destroy, but at least I feel the game is totally in my control.

I dislike killers that have so many safeguards for survivors with their power. Not saying Spirit is like this but she's definitely more safe. I definitely don't want her to be like that robot with emp. His entire power is rendered useless most games.

"Her add ons were gradually reworked to force players into actually using her power effectively."

I will never understand why killers having to put in 80% brain power while survivors put in 20% is considered a justified changed especially when survivor's ask "What happened to such and such killler".
