Didn’t play Bone Chill this year. Didn’t like the Snowcreature design, tbh. Still enjoyed the lights, trees, snowskulls, and overall wintery decor, but nothing was enough to get me hopping back on after a 5 month chillification from DBD.

fwiw, sometimes I don’t feel like playing Killer, and the fact that all the Daily’s, day after day, are consistently Killer ritual after Killer ritual, sometimes even up to 15x’s consecutively, is mildly disconcerting.

I agree, ppl shouldn’t be forced to play a specific role, character, etc. (to attain a reward, or any reasoning) if they’re not into it or if they simply can’t for whatever reason.

I do agree, most of these are effortless and easily obtainable. There are ppl (I actually have a few friends who suffer from this) who can’t play Killer because first person makes them sick, so they only can play Survivor.

Some of the Tomes were set up with routes that promoted play on both sides to advance. That much was somewhat unfair to certain people.

But yeah, for sure, it’s important for DBD to thrive that it’s players are playing both roles.

As a primary survivor player myself, it's really not asking too much to play a few killer games if you really want to get all those cosmetics

It's a small price to pay tbh. Plus it'll be in store next Christmas so buying it then is an option

I mean non of challanges are actually hard? All of them are pretty easy and you can complete them in one or two game and then move on to next challange.

What was visualized again at this event is that there are far too many mainline survivor users who really don't want to play the killer.I can understand if they can't play first-person killer because of screen-sickness issues, but not all of them.

PS. I play both Killer and Survivor in moderation, but I find Survivor to be monotonous and uninteresting, although it is comfortable to play with the post-2022 adjustments, and Killer to be just plain tiring, although each match is different and exciting.

Seems like the nature of a challenge tbh friend, it's meant to push you out of your comfort zone.

I don't particularly want to try and sacrifice all 4 survivors in the basement in a single game to get a tome codex entry... nor do I want to have to stun the killer with flashlight save 2 times in a single game either. Both require me to play in a way that is unnatural and uncomfortable to me.

However if I want that entry, thems the breaks.

The challenges for Killer were not at all hard to complete, it would have just taken a little time. You could have played to satisfy the condition then just let the survivors escape, realistically you could have done the whole thing in maybe 3 hours, or 1 hour per week if you'd done it during the whole event.

The game was providing you with a free means of acquiring a cosmetic. In return it asks for your time, if you don't wanna give it, that's fine, but considering it's not an unreasonable set of requirements, I don't feel like you can really give BHVR flack here.

The game is full of incentives to play the other role. You have Daily Rituals which dont only feature one side, you have regular Tomes which have Challenges for both Roles and you gain Bonus-Experience when playing at least one game of each role every day.

This is not different from the Bone Chill-Tome. You had plenty of time to play the Killer Challenges, most of them require 1 game to be completed, the Challenges of the Bone Chill-Tome were very easy overall so that people can get them done with minimal effort.

I would guess that you will have the chance to get the missed out Cosmetics next year during the Winter Event.

Then you don't need the Killer cosmetics anyways.. ??

    How logical.

This is absurd. You think they should make all the challenges universal instead of a mix of killer and survivor? There are two sides and they are giving challenges to the whole player base. Makes perfect sense.

You do realise that this goes ways?

If you have a cosmetic to unlock for completing all challnges, it either has to be for one side or another right?

So the same problem exists if you're a killer only player, which was exactly what happened for the Knight cosmetic at Halloween.

The only other option is have it be a generic reward... and noone is gonna be that impressed by ANOTHER charm, and a banner/avatar pic isn't exactly gonna be a big whoop either.

I'm not trying to be mean or a jerk here... but there is a certain amount of instead of complaining, maybe just bite the bullet and do what you have to do to earn your cosmetic. It's not hard to do, so your complaint is more that you can't be bothered... which then begs the question, do you really want the cosmetic?

    Answer: no... clearly not

See that's a bit better to complain about, but still kinda silly. If we were to take a random (and probably incorrect) guess, the reason is so survivors learn what it's LIKE to play killer and maybe something like empathy. If you want that cosmetic, your going to work for it.

  • coco_shotz
    coco_shotz Member Posts: 249

Then dont get all the cosmetics? Events are based around playing the game fully which includes both sides. The killer challenges are also not difficult to get since it's just an event tome and the challenges are brain dead

  • Science_Guy
    Science_Guy Member Posts: 2,034

We had a preview of this during the Halloween event when the final charm was only available from playing both roles. So, can't say I didn't see this coming.

But I actually agree with OP. We've never had to play the other role to unlock a cosmetic for a specific side before and I'm surprised the community that complains about everything doesn't care about that not being the case anymore. If this is okay, why wouldn't it be fine to have tomes requiring a specific role to finish a page? If that's okay, why not require a specific character for that challenge too?

    I don't like the precedent.

You should play as killer and see just how chilled out and fun it is :)

Even if you only play survivor, there is no way to get all the survivor cosmetics without finishing the event on both sides. So even if you never once play killer with the cosmetics you earned, you still have to buy them to get the outfit head for Jeff, a survivor. That's the complaint, and even as a player of both sides, I see the OP's point and I agree with them. It's lame they way they do it now.

  • AbsolutGrndZer0
    AbsolutGrndZer0 Member Posts: 1,454

Also remember that many players are unable to play Killer not because they don't want to, but because they get motion-sickness with First-Person Games. While when the FoV slider comes out (if it ever does) that will help some players, it won't help them all. If this was a fully FP game, you could rightly say "Then don't play" but it's not. Yes, players can not play killer, but they should not be forced to do so in order to obtain survivor content.

  • Hexling
    Hexling Member Posts: 657

nope will never play killer and never have after 4k hours.

But again, a not insignificant number of players are UNABLE TO PLAY KILLER DUE TO ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES.

Even then, why should I be required to grind out survivor outfits I will never use just to get the killer outfits that I do want, or vice versa? Even worse for killers that you may not even own or desire to purchase.

To note, I am a player who DOES play both sides, so it doesn't matter to me personally, but I have empathy and compassion for my fellow players, especially those with accessibility issues regarding first person games, and so I will always hate this new thing where survivor cosmetics are locked behind killer gameplay.

    AbsolutGrndZer0 Member Posts: 1,454

I am not the one you quoted, but I can say based on those players I know myself, considering he's a licensed killer, probably not. They should not have to purchase the one killer that is actually usable in order to unlock survivor content.

  • LordGlint
    LordGlint Member Posts: 8,685

Dude... it's completely OK to unlock something you think you'd enjoy playing. All the characters are usable, but not every character will be tailored to everyone.

Didn't know about the post below the one we were tagged in

While accessibility issues are a thing (and to our knowledge being slowly addressed) and its nice that you have some compassion (which is lacking lately), we have much less empathy who solely focus on one side (we play both as well so we have no real stake in this either). Setting aside our apathy, people should be required to grind the other side so they know what its like playing on the killer's screen. This could make them better as survivors and spread that empathy around knowing what the average (or new) killer goes through. This is our two cents on the matter and to each their own.

I'm one of those who vomits from the FoV. I vomit playing seige, overwatch, etc. Or when I tried, I should say.

I lasted three rounds before I threw up playing Chucky. It was a blast, but the fov or something still triggered me to vomit.

Now I definitely can't finish any tomes or play killer, even my BF, who I asked if he wanted to do it, said maybe. When he saw the FoV he had some um, choice words for how narrow it is. And he plays most games in first person, if there is an option.

I don't play Jeff and never will, but if it's someone I play in the event tome, I'd probably have to get a friend to do it. I shouldn't have to do that. Trust someone to log into my account because I throw up or miss out on something?

I didn't ask to be born with this thing, where I throw up if I play killer. Yeah, wah, sux2b me etc, but it's beyond my control. There should always be another option for folks like us, but just like being immune compromised, who cares? Not many unfortunately.

If they don't experience it, then they usually do not care or empathize. 🤢

I also get motion sickness in FOV perspective. (Although I've somewhat adapted now, I still feel queasy after prolonged concentration in games like Minecraft.) However, when I wanted to play this game because I wanted to play as the Killer, Chucky wasn't there yet, so I tried various things to see how I could play. Here are some things that had an effect. It might be good to combine several.

    1. Take motion sickness medicine.
    2. Play in a smaller window size rather than fullscreen. Display something stationary around the game screen, like the desktop, to play.
    3. Stretch between matches. (Nausea can also come from shoulder stiffness.)

Personally, combining 1 and 2 worked the best for me. Now I can play for hours in fullscreen without any issues. It might be additional advice, but please give it a try👍

Yes, it is? I never said it wasn't. I did however say that a player should not be required to unlock and play something they have no desire to actually play. If someone has reasons they do not ever want to touch Killer, they shouldn't have survivor content locked behind killer gameplay, and that seems to be how the events are going forward.

I feel even worse for Jeff mains that have no desire or ability (due to accessibility) to play killer are being locked out of one of Jeff's cosmetics because they are not able (no matter what you think, their reasons are legitimate) to play Killer

  • LordGlint
    LordGlint Member Posts: 8,685

Your not forced to unlock anything to get those cosmetics. There are characters on both sides you can play. You can argue about not having to play killer to unlock survivor cosmetics, but for most cases people would argue BHVR incentives to promote people playing both sides is a good thing.
