FOV slider
So is this the sort of thing that a FOV slider will help killers with? I just don't know how he missed me

Maybe, but probably not. When he drops down he is looking away from you. When he looks around's he's never really that close to having you in his view.

Cheers. So it was basically just luck. Even at the very end he walks past me again but I guess I blended into the environment a bit too well.

Croger is right.
shadowborn is probably overall more detrimental because of flashlights than helpful for seeing little bits of survivors that you would have seen if you had just looked around a bit more.
That FoV just makes playing killer feel 10X better.

It might depend on whether or not the FoV slider is horizontal + vertical, or just horizontal.

It is an amazing break of luck.
He drops down and is facing away from you. You move ever so slightly forward behind his back, meaning as he turns right you are out of his view/he doesn't just bump into you.
He then turns right again as you take a step back, putting yourself behind him
He then makes another right turn to check the area that would have been behind him when he dropped.
If he makes one more right turn, he catches you, but instead he now makes a left turn and doubles back on his route.
He probably sees some scratch marks or something (don't know if you were running) and goes to check the end of the hall.
You move into the other hall and he checks that one. Now before you moved to that hall I hear a gen go off, so it is possible he is not looking for you now but is instead going for that (because otherwise it is pretty lucky guess to pick the hall you chose as that one he doesn't have a reason to go down as he visually checked it earlier).
As he goes down the hall it is kind of hard to tell where exactly he is looking. Even without shadowborn you might be in his view (I was kind of surprised you had not crouched behind the box), but he might just be more focused on that gen that went off and thus just missed you.

FOV tech will be missed, but killer needed fov options years ago

Crogers nailed it. Realistically, that Killer was never quite looking at you - you never even entered the red stain. A slightly wider FOV might have made it easier to spot you, but even then people tend to focus on the middle of their screen more than the absolute edges, so it's still unlikely they would have noticed you even if the slightly wider FOV would have let them see you.

Yeah I wasn't sure which direction he was going, so didn't crouch in case his vision was based on movement like a T-Rex lol
Cheers. So the slider isn't something that would probably take a huge amount of adapting to from a survivors perspective?

I imagine there wouldn't be much difference on the Survivor side. Killers can already increase their FOV with Shadowborn, so it's possible you've already played against some people with a higher FOV. As long as you're not standing in front of the Killer, it likely won't feel much different.

The forced short M1 mechanic, that can steal hits from the killer, will still be in the game. And that's one of the biggest reasons why 360s and other FoV techs cause missed hits.
