Point Blank Evasion
I'm not sure how else to describe it. I admit I haven't played the Killer role much (and I had only just returned to this game after a long break, not having played a lot back then either) -- but I was in a game where I was swarmed by Survivors and they evaded me by running straight into me and pretty much disappearing from the screen, then either continuing to circle and repeat or running off out of LoS. While it seems kind of a reasonable tactic for Survivors on one hand, the trouble with tracking feels like a problem. Is this a common tactic and mechanically intended?

Exploiting hitboxes is definitely probably not intended.

I wonder if they could tweak a hit box that's tuned to inter-player collision only..

They do it to avoid Doctor`s shock therapy as well.

PC -- The reflexive swipe as they turn into you can make it even harder because the survivor gets a head start to duck out of any possible LoS
