Does anyone miss the old map aesthetics? Especially how the old maps were filled with vegetation?

-This is what the maps were like before with the old aesthetic and vegetation.-

-This is what the aesthetic and vegetation is like now.-

What do you think? Do you prefer the new vegetation and aesthetic or the old?

Old vegetation would make chucky extremely hard to play against lol

    Game definitely looks blander nowadays.

    That could actually be done.

Back when modding was a thing, there was a mod that attempted to recreate the original lighting of the maps and it actually got pretty close.

I think we should be able to choose which version of the maps we want to see in our games. I would be happy to never see the reworked graphics again, daytime Coldwind in particular.

It really depends on the realm on which one I liked/disliked more

MacMillan: There are some good and bad changes, but for the most part its bad. The blue hue being a BIG part. It had an almost iconic feel to it and its one of the first things I think of whenever I think of DbD's maps. How ever the main buildings of the maps look much better than how they use to look.

Autohaven: Relatively the same as before, honestly I feel indifferent about the change

Coldwind: Might be controversial, but I think this is the best Realm Beyond BY FAR. They absolutely nailed how disgusting and rancid the place really is, and the lighting is a big part of that. Thompson House is my favorite map aesthetically, as that main building is actually beautiful.

Asylum: Definitely looks better, main buildings look great, and the carnival is fantastic.

Haddonfield: Looks great! Plays like ######### and that ruins the whole thing completely

Lerys: When the rework was initially released it was my favorite map in the game, the feeling of the map as well as the lighting was fantastic. Then they brightened the map and it doesnt look nearly as good

Red Forest: This map is so close to being perfect, just needs the lighting to be adjusted

Badham: Looks better, cant count the pixels on the car lights anymore

Gideon: Looks fantastic, definitely one of the better reworks with all the references.

Yamoaka: Looks good, not much changed from its original itteration

Ormond: Another great rework that absolutely nailed the feeling of an abandoned lodge in a snowy wasteland.

exactly! would love to see the new maps receive the original look.

although idk why the new grass bothers me so much. imo the old grass made maps feel less flat.

Nah, i don't miss the old aesthetic or graphics and looking at those pictures of them just reminds me of how absolutely downgraded and ugly they were.

The new ones however are 100x better in every way.

That could work on some maps but definitely not all. I fear, that the old Haddonfield aesthetics are gone forever.

To think I'd get all nostalgic about old Haddonfield... I hated it so much back then but now I miss it, if only for the visuals. What I wouldn't give to get bullied on that map just one more time just to have a chance and appreciate that hell hole in all its glory.

Back in the days of old, Every (and I do mean every) all-Killer or mostly-Killer player was on these forums complaining about not being able to see “Blendette” and other Survivors whose clothes were “too dark” due to them having ‘superior camouflage’ with the map aesthetics; even to the extent that, eventually, not only were Claudette’s as well as other Survivor’s cosmetics adjusted (lightened-up), but the maps were also made more plain as your photos depict, with more plainly open, well landscaped or completely vegetation-less area; and the strategic “trap placing” tiles still with enough cover or deceptive color to conceal the Killer’s devices… also appealing to all the whiners and complainers.

Subtle nerfs along the way that aren’t usually mentioned when comparing and contrasting the various Survivor to Killer DBD nerf ratios since the games inception. Who had more, who had less, etc.

It’s all very plane to see.

    Just the facts

I think the vegetation on Red Forest looks really good.

The newer grass feels too sparse, like there's a few inches between each blade. It doesn't look so much like grass, moreover strands of hair. The older grass was more substantial and at least helped ambush Killers and trap-based Killers with a few more options.

Old maps was so much better. I honestly would prefer they never rework them. They maybe did not have great graphics but atmosphere was so much better.

Also old fog.... I don't know why they changed it

Pretty sure they changed the old fog because of last gen console performance.

though if that actually helped idk..

So you are telling me they changed fog for better performance on old consoles which is failed and we just lost old fog for that?

    Sounds like average BHVR honestly...

I don’t know if it failed.. or if it was the only reason. Maybe part of the reason was also that the community is so against stealthy gameplay which got encouraged by better fog

Except the grass doesnt exist at chock points, loops and gyms...for Trapper.

exactly! really feel like they need to replace the grass with more dense looking grass, exactly like the old one here:

not only does it improve the map's visuals immediately, it makes life easier for killers that rely on traps and stealth. ignore the "NEW", i didnt put it there lol
