Is dead by daylight killer sided or survivor sided?
I wanna know what others think the game is..
Also give an actual example of it being a certain side don't just spam "its killer sided" or "survivor sided"

If we are taking exclusively killrates percentages, Dbd is slightly Killer-sided.
15 -
Dead by Daylight is killer-sided.
All stats are just showing it. So i don't know what more we need to say
22 -
Finally someone opens a Thread about this!
19 -
DBD spent the majority of its seven year lifespan being HEAVILY survivor sided.
However, In the past year or so, its been slightly killer sided, which frankly, is right where it should be. Enough for the killer to always be a constant threat, but not so much where the survivors get steamrolled
15 -
I'd say it is slightly killer-sided on average trials.
6 -
By far survivor sided on high level, balanced on average level and killer sided on low level.
23 -
In the majority if not overwhelming majority of matches that take place on any given day, it isn't even relevant and is purely "who got the least screwed by matchmaking" and "who brought the strongest stuff"-sided.
9 -
Dbd is not killer sided the way Mikaela here wants it to be. It is quite simple based on the actual stats.
SWF on coms > killer > solo queue survivors.
There is a reason that solo queue is miserable because your teammates are terrible and you can't communicate with each other., and there is a reason that every DBD tournament that gets run has to put special rules in place like banning certain perk combinations, limiting the perks and items survivors can bring, and scoring systems that incentivize winning chases instead of rushing gens and escaping.
19 -
That would be incorrect. Based on kill rates they are exactly where BHVR wants them to be. They balance the game around a 60% kill rate.
Now i think we both agree though that kill rates don't tell the whole picture.
10 -
in average pub matches killer is easily the best at the TOP level its survivor still (this doesnt happen in public matches)
2 -
SWF>Killer>Survivor
8 -
SWF is a power role here.
7 -
Neither in my experience. I win around every 5/10 matches most of the time, and this can change on some days but it's not a huge change
According to stats, slightly killer sided.
1 -
Even comp players have said as much. I've seen Team Eternal players flat out say good killers should win 95% of their games in pub matches. Yet people keep trying to argue that pub matches are impossibly hard for killers. My win rate isn't quite 95% but I usually wreck the overwhelming majority of teams I go against.
10 -
Its really not that simple since there are just so many different factors its unreal.
Lets use Dredge as an example, using the best possible perks and add ons while going against a group of Survivors that are equally skilled, all with loadouts to match his. This would be a fair fight, but the map is Haddonfield so his power is practically useless and leans heavily towards Survivors. Switch that map to Midwich and all of a sudden it heavily leans towards his side.
Even just loadouts make a big difference, if a Blight with chill perks runs into a group with meta hes at a disadvantage, but reverse it and all of a sudden the he has the upperhand. But then throw a map offering like Lery's or RPD and now it flips again.
Even map RNG makes a difference. Say Billy is on Autohaven and a bunch of loops spawn with Syn-cars hes cookin, but then switch those up with a bunch of other filler loops and now he has a tougher time.
There is no definitive answer to this question and there never will be as long as maps stay randomized and MM doesnt account for add ons.

Killer.
Your the power role and there's lots of 50/50s in this game nowadays.
2 -
SWF>Killer ( unless its full meta slowdown s tier killer)>Solo que
But if you want to look at just the stats, it's killer
0 -
Less than 20% of players think killer is more interesting than survivor.
Due to this,I think it is survivor side.
7 -
It favors whoever brings the stronger stuff for the most part. That includes killers.
If one were to say that the game is simply killer sided, that would mean that even Myers, Trapper and Freddy have the upper hand over the survivors. But if that was the case, then how comes you see few people claim that killers typically associated with B-tier are overpowered? In fact, you see more people call for buffs.
In very low MMR the killer is largely favored (no matter who it is) because 1 killer simply cannot make as many mistakes as 4 survivors. On the highest levels, the game is survivor sided. Only 2 killers (Nurse and Blight) with their best loadouts can tip the scales at that point and most players agree, that these should not exist. So we can't really take that as the average.
4 -
dbd is really well balanced actually, a bit survivor sided but nothing super horrendous
3 -
Fully depends on the team you get. If survivors use the base tools at their disposal, it can be very survivor sided. You only need 1 weak link to bring the whole team down
0 -
yep i win the vast majority of my matches with no perks or weak perks while barely paying attention just based off the fact i have almost 6k hours and thats like 5k+ hours more then the average opponent im not even particularly good or anything. People that have much less experience then me can just slap on pop pain res and call it a day tho, losing more then 30-40% of your killer matches is just a pure skill issue at this point
1 -
From my perspective the game feels Survivor sided. As a Killer you can hit a brick wall where Survivors are impossible to beat.
When I play as Survivor winning/losing feels more dependent on teamwork than the Killer’s skill. Whenever my team loses as Survivor it never feels like it’s because of the Killer’s skill. Instead it feels like the team wasn’t efficient enough. The brick wall on the Survivor side feels like other Survivors instead of the Killer.
I think every match is technically winnable for the Survivors. I don’t believe that every match is winnable for the Killer.
10 -
I will always say SWF>Killer>SoloQ
3 -
Our vote goes to map sided. Usually even if survivors bring their best, if the map favors the killer then the killer doesn't need to bring their best to be an even match. This runs reverse too. That said, theres soooo many factors to take in that saying its one sided or another is just silly
the answer is yeeeessssss
7 -
You held your breath, waiting for this, right?
5 -
Yep. 5 years in DBD, over 9k hours, over 14k posts and finally someone wants to settle this with a Thread.
6 -
Neither. It's bias-sided.
2 -
In public matches/solo queue, probably Killer sided because there's no coordination between Survivors.
Against a SWF or experienced team, it's Survivor sided unless you're using a strong Killer like Spirit or Nurse. Playing a low tier or even average Killer against an experienced SWF is pain.
1 -
DBD is absolutely survivors side 😂
8 -
i for one am truly shocked nobody's thought of making a thread about this until just now
0 -
There's stupid stuff in the game that when used can be abit ridiculous. You have stuff like this that results in survivors being faster than the killer.
This shows some coordination with 1 other teammate. It's the type of thing that generally isn't seen because people like to be able to make plays centered around themselves rather than a teammate, but... frankly this probably shouldn't be possible to begin with.
1 -
Depends on which side I'm playing. It's always "the other side" sided!
0 -
It's whoever brings the most broken stuff sided.
2 -
Totally killer sided.
Every few months I come back and try to enjoy this game, but I can't. This time I even tried playing without the expectation of escaping and still got frustrated. It's not fun to be tunneled quickly upon entering a match, with no chance of escape, just as it's not enjoyable to be swiftly killed by some 1HK skill.
Yes, I know I'm a noob and that matters, but how am I supposed to develop any gaming experience if there's no incentive for me to do so? Should I find it cool to have my entire team taken down by a Spirit in less than 2 minutes of the match? I don't see how.
DBD is certainly not for me. Uninstalled again
6 -
1000% killer sided. You don't need to do much analyzing or debating about this.
Winstreaks = killers. People are able to hit the triple or even 4 digit numbers in streaks whereas this is something that is basically null & void as survivor, unless you're on a team like Eternal. It just doesn't happen. Because pugs are luck of the draw & its incredibly rare for all 4 teammates to be on the same skill level.
Even watching someone like Hexy, he was winning 95% of his matches as Hit n Run Wraith. He was a vocal advocate of nerfing killers because he found it too easy.
Tru3talent also months ago, did a challenge where he took viewer builds and tried to do winstreaks with those builds. This was at the same time Otz was doing the challenge. I didn't watch the entire thing but he got to a 33 winstreak...using random builds given to him by his chatters. Thats either saying he's very good or that despite the build he was given, solo que and pugging in a nutshell, is easy stomping grounds for killers.
People love to pat themselves on the back when they win but they have the self awareness of a potato when it comes to analyzing their own mistakes for a loss. Most people who play killer & complain about survivors are just getting ego checked, they aren't as good as they think they are. Both sides can make mistakes. But for some reason, when lots of killers make mistakes and cost themselves a match, they just throw blame at the survivor team. And that is EGO.

Swf sided.
7 -
Nah plenty of high level killers destroy everyone, even high level swfs.
6 -
When killers know how to play they are unstoppable, the game is much easier for Killer. Survivors tend to win strictly by luck. Killers win big winstreaks and survivors cannot. It is obviously killer sided when you look objectively. I have never understood how anyone thinks survivor has fair chances in the game.
6 -
DBD is survivor sided. There are some very strong, oppressive killers, but the majority of the cast is manageable.
People who just blindly quote "muh kill rates" severely miss the subtlety of the statistics.
Think about it logically.
It is very likely that you go from a game with 0 kills to a game with 1 kill. You can suck all game, but you down one person endgame and you either camp them to death, or people keep trading until one dies. It takes little skill or effort to get a single kill.
Likewise, it is far easier to get the fourth kill than it is to get the 2nd or 3rd kill. The survivors are still competitive with several alive, they can still outplay you to buy time. When you down survivor 3, any killer can choose to slug them and track down survivor 4. Worst case, they don't find them and hatch is a 50/50 at best for the survivor. Again, the killer didn't play any better or worse, but because of being asymmetrical, a fourth kill is much easier.
We have 2 factors at both the low and high end that push kill numbers up, whether the game was a survivor stomp or a killer stomp. There is no real overarching factor that makes kills less likely in the same way.
Therefore, in a balanced game, we should still expect that kills are higher than 50%.
11 -
its rng sided
0 -
How is it survivor sided when kill rates are higher and when you take the strongest killer vs the strongest swf and the killer wins? You can play make believe all you want, it's not an opinion that killer is stronger it's a fact.
8 -
Because contrary to how people pretend it is online, the game is not only Nurse against SWF.
If we're looking at how balanced the game is, it's disingenuous to judge the killer role by 1 of 34 possible killers. Even with 2 or 3 being very strong, there's a wide cast, most of which see significant amounts of players, that are far more balanced.
8 -
Yeah we're talking about overall balance. MMR is garbage, solo q exists, far more survivors don't work the objective compared to killers, there are other strong killers other than Nurse and Blight. Playing a weak killer and saying the game is survivor sided is like running no mither in solo q and saying the game is killer sided.
6 -
The game is neither sided- What keeps shifting the balance really is the use of third party comms that most SWFs use. I've seen a YouTuber do an experiment where he gathered completely random survivors who never played together before and did 2 custom matches against them where he used the same killer, same perks, and played on the same map and in the first match he beat them relatively easily, but in the second match he struggled a bit against them and the ONLY difference was that in the first match he didn't allow them to use third party comms whereas in the second match he did allow them to use third party comms.
1 -
It's sided towards whichever group is better equipped to win - be it through loadouts, mindset or skill.
0 -
This is the order of how easy it is to play the game: SWF>>>>Killer>>Solo queue. Coordinating via comms make it incredibly easy to get 2 or more escapes (so a draw of a win for survivor team), even if the killer is tunneling/camping. My experience as killer is highly variable. Coordinated SWF teams crank out gens and usually win pretty easily, while sometimes I face solo queue teams that don't even get a single gen completed. Other times I'll face good solo queue teams with people who know how to abuse every broken loop and I manage to only get one or two kills.
Experience as solo queue is usually not very good. I'd say at most 1/3 of the matches I get into at are competitive. Most of the time, other survivors will refuse to do gens, waste time blessing totems, or get downed 10 seconds after their chase starts and then kills themselves on hook. I really only play solo queue to try to get better at chases or complete tome challenges/dailies and go into the match not expecting to escape.
2 -
It's not either sided
Both sides have things that they have to deal with...
Putting it like that only makes us focused on one side over the other
0 -
It's not the kill rates, it's the win rates.
The overall average, according to Nightlight, puts 3K+ at roughly 48%, and 0-1K at roughly 38%. This means killers win 10 percentage points more than they lose.
When compared to survivors, the average kill rate of 55% implies a 45% winrate for survivors, leaving a 3% difference in win rate between the two.
So it's slightly killer-sided.
6 -
after taking a few months off playing other multiplayer games and coming back, this game is 100% killer sided
