I don't understand what I'm supposed to do here

Yes, it's solo queue. We're at 5, soon to be 6 stages with 4 gens remaining against a Nemesis, a killer who needs 3 hits to down with his power. I've been chased twice, but not downed. I've also done the only gen between 4 players.

Where is my agency as a player in all of this? What am I supposed to do? Do I just lose the second I queue up? What is the selling point here gameplay-wise? There is no "escape enough and you escape these lobbies". When players have my experience level, we generally have 2+ escape. But I generally don't get matched with players near my experience level. I wouldn't be posting this if this game was irregular. I've put 4500+ hours and easily hundreds of dollars into this game while trying to be good at it, and these are my lobbies. Surely one can understand why that would be very frustrating for a player.

I'm not asking for free escapes. I'm asking for the game to respect the time I put into it. I don't think that's an unfair ask.

Edit:

And lest someone accuse me of being a whiny survivor main, I present my most recent killer game from tonight. At this point, I need proof that matchmaking is even turned on, because I straight up don't believe it.

they can do gens better with experiences if they use a perk called hyperfocus and stake out(to increase skill-check reward by 1%). It is just that most survivors are unable to use it.

It only takes 1 bad and/or less experienced teammate (let alone 3) to drag the entire team down and you often can’t really do much about it. It sucks, but that’s just part of the nature of it being a team game and not having a good matchmaking system. You can’t have 1 survivor on a team who is way better than the other 3 and expect them to make up the difference (usually). Provided you are against at least a semi-decent killer who knows what they’re doing, they’re just going to find the weak link(s) and win the game that way.

I think it really boils down to mmr being too lax and survivor mmr not being accurate in terms of gains/loss. Your right there was nothing you could do but just as you said the killer shouldn't be able to pick and choose the survivor they chase just because there is such a gigantic difference in skill level. If there were just 3 more players of your caliber they wouldn't be able to just ignore you and even if they did it wouldn't be an auto loss for you.

A single survivor can solo carry an entire team and die right at the end of the game alone, but they deserve to lose mmr for that? Just combine the current 4 categories of point and a baseline of score off of it. The caveat being the baseline goes down the more your in chase because obviously you can't do anything else if the killer chases you.

Certain total score = you go up or down based on how much you contributed, if you got tunneled then the system affects you far far less.

I think I may also be going insane because I'm experiencing some weird MMR things as well.

Now I can't say for sure on survivor side because even I'll admit I'm a mid survivor, but when my killer mains experience these kinds of survivors and the killers I barely touch get godlike loopers who know every tile combination like the back of their hand and have 2-3x my hours played, something feels weird.

I had to double check and yes, killers have seperate MMR but it's raised based on your best killer's MMR. So why is it I get really terrible/inexperienced survivors on my mains but not on killers I'm also inexperienced with, or at least mid ranged survivors?

I know they say MMR hasn’t changed but holy moly my teammates are… struggling newbies 1000-2000 hrs less than me and it shows. A month and half ago I would go on 1 long chase at the start of the match and at least 3-4 gens would be done with the last started on. I go on the same chase now and at most they tripled on one/or doubled and did gens on one side with zero knowledge on how to split the gens up. Getting 2 tapped with m1 killers.

i don’t believe them when they say things are unchanged

Yep, thats MMR-Hell. And the best thing is, you will die. Even if you are better than the Killer, you will die, because if the other 3 Survivors are just not good enough, the Killer will get you eventually. And then you lose MMR, which will result in even worse Teammates.

I really understand why they went for such a simple system (an accurate MMR-system would need to take too many factors into account), but it is not really good if the game is basically a 1v1, because you can have strong chases against a Killer, but if the rest of the team dies quickly or just does not do Gens, the time in a chase is basically wasted.

MMR was made lax because there weren’t enough Killer players at every “bracket” at that point in time. Whether there are sufficient Killer players now remains to be seen.

There’s really nothing you can do in this situation. These bad games are gonna happen.

Yeah game expects the higher rank survivor to carry the team. I see it as killer and when I play with my friends as survivor.

Oh this is too relatable, lol. I've got thousands of hours and this seems very normal in solo que.

Really frustrating, makes you question your teammate quality, if you're the only one with a brain, etc. You're set up to lose.

'carry a team' is an understatement..so you're responsible for majority of gens, or all of them, getting into lengthy chases if the killer even decides to indulge you, and having to rely on your other teammates who you are 'carrying' to not go down repeatedly within seconds or divebomb hooks, etc.

Hella high task. Probably like a 95-5% success rate, if that. I would say its pretty much near impossible to win w/ a team like this, as long as the killer isn't downright bad or decides to relax/let up in trying.

It's you, man. You're getting in those lobbies and giving those poor survivors a killer above their skill level. Make some friends your skill level and SWF. Leave those newbies alone. And don't sneak in on some poor killer who has low skill.

An overly critical person can argue you should have gotten one of the three available hook rescues to take advantage of Deliverance and We'll Make It and take aggression from the killer. But as anyone that actually plays solo queue knows, it is impossible to get a killer to spend time on you unless you physically throw yourself in their way, and if you do that with teammates as bad as I'm assuming yours were, you are losing the game anyway.

Your only agency is getting hatch or gate if the others die, or looping him as long as possible in a slugging/EGC situation after hatch shut. Hope you enjoyed the match! The matchmaking system is so speed-focused that you will still get these teammates even at the highest MMR.

People said they preferred faster lobbies over more accurate MMR... I'm not sure why any of this is a surprise tbh.

I keep getting this constant problem where everyone runs adrenaline and chase builds, or is running a rat build, and literally no-one takes healing or gen builds. It's not even a healthy mix of perks most of the time. It also doesnt help they're bloody allergic to generators, they sprint to and yolo unhook constantly and are totally incapable of reading the HUD.

Like I'd never run We'll Make It and Deliverance, because that basically forces you to be the one to unhook, and I guarantee you will be the only one with those types of perks... and you'll be the only one who sticks gens when someone gets hooked. The fact Deli is not active, speaks volumes to me.

Then you're part of the 1% that doesn't party up with friends who run obnoxious builds to make the killers experience as bad as humanely possible. To say you've played as many hours as you have im surprised you haven't caught on

That's y I will ask to be someone friend if I think they Play on my level because the matchmaking is a joke so now I play with a full team

Your agency is to queue with friends. If you queue with randoms, expect random results.

I have good news for you my friend. All you have to do is run the killer for 5 gens. In lobbies like these, thats only 10-15 minutes. That should be an easy task since most maps come with 9-15 pallets. You might be unlucky sometimes that you get a bad seed with almost all palets beeing very unsafe, but dont worry. Most people play killers that you can counter. Nurse, Chucky, Blight, Spirit, Slinge, Wesker, Xenomorph, just to name a few.

GL HF with your solo 5 gen runs.

This is why I'm not playing as much recently. Most games I end up playing for hatch or leaving via hook ASAP because teammates are literally doing nothing while I'm being chased/downed/hooked. Like if the killer already has 4 hooks and we haven't popped a gen bc survivors are insta-unhooking in front of the killer instead of doing gens, going down 3 feet from the same hook and becoming a hook trade, then the one that got unhooked just lingers nearby like the killer doesn't see them and assume they're trying to unhook asap so they go down again and deny even safe unhooks, what's the point of trying to help them at that point? It's frustrating, because not helping feels crappy but so does going down as well because obviously the killer has no reason to leave the hook area so you know whoever you go to save is probably being proxy camped and it's going to be a trade or tunnel situation at that point. And chances are the killer will slug the last person forever to try to draw you out so you can't get hatch. And if that person is petty they will bring the killer to wherever you're hiding lol.

Seems to happen anytime there's a lull in content. Hopefully when Alan wakes up soon, games will be more interesting again and bring back the more experienced survivors for us poor soloq fools.

    There's too much randomness

SoloQ- you and 4 random people... that mean 12 random perks for Survivors and 4 random perks for the Killer... each with their own "goals" for the match

Maps- Even with Map Offerings the maps are still random (loops and stuff)
