What's going on in this photo?
I was playing Myers and every time I would chase Steve off a Generator, this thing would happen where orange spikes popped up around it for a few seconds and then disappear.
I've never seen anything like this, what is it?

That is new anti 3 gen system that is newly implemented.

Oh, so this means I kicked it too many times?

I think so
Did you damage gen about 8 times?

Not 8 for sure, then they would disappear after a few seconds and I could kick again. Same thing with the Generator in the street.

Damn I don't know either than.
Devs should have explained about this system with more detail.

Maybe a Dev or Mod will jump in and explain. If this is the anti-3 gen, I should not have been able to kick it again, I don't think 🤔

It wouldn't be the 3 gen mechanic if you could still kick it. Unless it grows every time you kick it until it's covered maybe? I doubt you kicked it 8 times as your photo shows the survivors have only done 1 gen, so it can't be that far into a game.

This starts showing up from the third event onwards. I'm not sure if theres a different effect once it's maxed out.

Woah! Looks pretty awesome, whatever it is

It's the new 3gen protection. What i don't get, even i kicked a gen 8 times, i was still able to kick it...
So it's either bugged or the gen just doesn't regress anymore, even you get the points for kicking it and see the sparks.
Bit confusing. I think they should make it so the killer can't kick the gen after seeing this animation.

That's exactly how I thought it was supposed to work.

That's kinda odd. You'd think it'd start showing up when there's only three or four kicks left.
Same.

Wait, do these spikes keep you from kicking it before the 8 kicks are used up?

No, you can still kick it. I just did it again as Myers on Lery's 30 minutes ago. They are only there for a few seconds and then you can kick again.

I believe that's the form of indication that you've crossed 3 or 4 gen regression events and you are nearing the limits. Spikes will continue to appear but so long as you can do the kick on the gen, then you are still below 8. Still the appearance of these spikes indicates that you need to be considerate about your kicks as soon you will push the generator into un-damageable state after which you won't be able to apply any form of gen regression on it.

But you can't kick it while the spikes are up?

I can't say either way for sure because they appear and vanish in 2 seconds. I have been caught off guard by the animation, so I freeze wondering what's going on, then they go away and I kick.
It's happened to me on two generators on Haddonfield and one on Lery's.
All I can say for sure is that you can kick after they go away, which is extremely quickly.

It's the new gen mechanic they Said it in the live stream but seems In your case it was popping up a lil too early

From the patch notes: "Number of regressions per Generator is indicated by increasing VFX after 3 or more regression events."
So essentially they act as a warning, telling you that you're approaching the limit of 8 regression events on that generator. Once you've hit that mark, the spikes will block the gen permantely (for you).

It's a "warning" from the anti 3 gen mechanic. Those spikes show up after damaging the gen 3 times, and get bigger every time you damage it until you hit the max at 8. They mentioned it in the patch notes but clearly didn't emphasize it enough because multiple people have been confused by it

People on this thread have already pointed out what it is, so I won't recycle what's been said. However, I would say that it would be better if the spikes appear on the 6th, 7th and 8th gen regression. It would be like a countdown. As it is, it can be a distraction, especially since it happens so early on.

IMO they should just let Spikes appear from the first time kicking/damaging. First Gen Regression-Event 1 Spike, second 2 Spikes and so on.
Would be less confusing IMO.

A generator somehow got magnetic forced into my Pain Resonance and was the only one to ever get hit by it. I kicked it for only the second time, and it got hit by the anti 3-gen. I thought it was bugged until I realized that my Pain Resonance was probably only hitting that generator.

Well it’s funny. I kept hearing that sound running surge and eruption. Had no idea wth was going on. So kick gen, down a survivor in range, surge and eruption = spike warning. Sounds fair. 😉

It totally is a distraction!
I'm approaching the generator to chase the Survivor(s) off of it, they see me or hear my TR and start running but I lose sight of them because the spikes appear as you walk by, even if you're not attempting to kick it.
Hopefully we'll get used to the visual with time, but it breaks my concentration for a second because it jumps out at you.
