I Feel As If I Was Right To Warrant Concern About This.

SH: Pain Resonance, Grim Embrace, Dead Man's Switch. Every game.

Listen, I have no issue with people running whatever perks they want, but I pointed out that this combo will be extremely obnoxious once the update rolls out (when the PTB first came out) and GUESS WHAT, you see it every game.

Tunneling is made more effective with this, SH: Pain Resonance will probably knock your SoloQ teammate off a Generator, suggesting they even get on a Generator to begin with, and now Grim Embrace acts as that extra safety net since if they avoid SH: Pain Resonance they still have another effect to proc Dead Man's Switch.

Bonus points if you pair it with Ultimate Weapon, because youll not only get information with it but also free Generator blocking, because who doesnt love not being able to touch a Generator for a full 30 seconds after the Killer hooks someone.

SH: Pain Resonance and Dead Man's Switch was a fine and balanced combo, it punished Survivors for being oblivious and not paying attention to anything, but I feel as if this combo was just made unnecessarily strong when Grim Embrace was buffed and other perks were introduced (Ultimate Weapon).

Yep solo q is unplayable atm unless you want to wait for your team to die which is super boring and not the point of team work l.

Skill issue bra! lol JK, but its funny how not even one dev comes to give one glimpse of hope in any of these threads talking about how miserable soloq is right? interesting, i mean its no surprise, but still, interesting.

so before with all the broken things, tunneling and camping wasn’t a thing? Or was it… that those things made it worse?

I’m, at the very least, happy it isn’t exactly like old Eruption. I can at least heal or do a totem while the Generator is blocked, and Ill take what I can get.

Camping and tunneling have become exponentially worse as the game has been made more competitve.

It's a literally no different than tunneling with pain res. you can tunnel and still get crazy vaule later on

Honestly it feel nice getting rewarded for downs when playing killer. The combo can actually be counter unlike eruption (letting go) but it extremely overpowering regardless. They gave killers way to much stuff in one patch with out giving survivor much. Better dry kick regression, no gen tapping, and a strong game changing meta perk. Survivors did get the 3 gen solution which is nice but dont happen every match. All the killers buffs will be felt in a regular matches. If the buff DS was out and all survivors had a good way of fighting the current tunneling epidemic! than maybe this new meta would be reasonable to go up against

If you are tunneling someone with pain res though, by definition you aren't using the perk (except for that first hook) thus you aren't getting value.

Pardon me for asking, but also isnt this the main strategy that is used in Comp?

SH: Pain Resonance has been a staple and even after the nerfs it still sees a lot of usage since tunneling out a Survivors brings into to a 3v1 plus you still have the extra slowdown when needed.

The devs were literally concerned about it in their last post, no idea how it gets past that.

"yeah, well monitor it for the next month and a half then maybe make changes"

One guy had this nice idea that DMS should only works when survivors let go of the gen themselves, and not because GE or Pain Res kicked them off it. I think it would also help if you could activate only 1 gen blocking perk at a time, with only the one which starts first (GE in this sitaution trumphing DMS and the gen being blocked for 12 seconds and thats it)

I ran 3 of those perks anyway. Just didn't run GE until now.

What other strategies have been nerfed out? Are you saying 60-min genkicking getting nerfed is the reason for this current meta?

My main issue with it is not the strength of this combination of perks (although it is insanely strong) but that feeling that you absolutely cannot progress. It's the same as with 6.1.0 Eruption. People hated it because they couldn't do anything for as long as they were affected. Now it's the same. The survivors can basically only wait until the gens are unblocked again. This feels awful. Nobody likes feeling like they can't do anything meaningful during the match.

Funny you say that, I have 100% challenges, 100% achievements, all perks / characters unlocked and play survivor 60/40

Killer main though right. My comment literally wasnt us vs them.

It's not horrendous but it definitely needs changing.

Ideally, they need to change this scenario at the same time as the For The People/Buckle Up/Made For This combo, because currently both sides have a combination which is frustrating in an unfair sense.

Personally, they need to stop stacking Perks and make it so that one Perk doesn't work with the other. It could diversify builds as a result and make things a little more interesting.

Honestly, I think the whole idea that everything in an asymm game needs a 1 to 1 counter only hurts the game in the long run. Trying to make everything more fair, only ends up forcing people to use the same perks and tactics because other options are just too easy to deal with.

Perfect example is the Sadako changes going off of the ptb. Capping the hook condemn to 2 as "counterplay" only makes Sadako need to tunnel that survivor out more since there's more risk in them cleansing up most their condemn. A survivor not grabbing a tape and getting 5 stacks before their first hook messed up and they don't need an extra chance to remove the condemn.

There's always going to be a 'meta' build. People in this community like to optimize the fun out of the game for the other side. that's how it's always been. That being said there are steps you can take to weaken and counter this build, which is more than can be said for some other 'meta' builds that have come up

(before I get into this, I will say- grim embrace should have a caveat where it only works if all survivors are still alive. I think that would make sure it can't be used with tunneling to guarantee a good position, unfortunately that isn't a thing yet so we will have to make do).

Grim Embrace- This perk incentivizes spreading hooks, this functionally means they are in a win win scenario. They either A: get to tunnel someone out of the game along with the delay of the generator blocking. or B: Get intermittent slowdown as they wittle away at your hook states. Of the two, the latter is your better option. If possible, you want to prevent the killer from getting hooks on 'fresh' survivors as much as possible. However this shouldn't come at the cost of a survivor's life. Numbers are your biggest advantage and you need to work to keep that advantage at any cost. The more killers have to work to block the generators, the more time you have to repair them. This doesn't get into the fact that grim embrace is a temporary tool. Once all survivors are hooked and the effect ends, that perk does nothing, and you can worry about the other perks much more. As great as getting rid of it early sounds, this would come at the cost of hook states you need to protect you for when things get dicey. It's best to deny them the delay as much as reasonable without getting yourself killed.

SH:PR- A much simpler solution here: sabo the hooks. I know being pigeon holed into a playstyle isn't fun, but if they are going meta, you need to bring a counter. If you sabo the scourge hooks, then they are left without a lot of regression. Can they eventually get value from it later? sure. But preventing it from being on their terms as much as possible will make life inconvenient for them. If you do it right, you might even prevent a hook state, which is its own reward.

DMS- This is also not too difficult of a solution. Simply put: avoid or commit. If you are on a gen, you have to accept your going to be working on that gen for the next 30 seconds. This will deny the killer information on which gen is being worked on (assuming they don't already know), as well allowing you progress that would be denied had you left to unhook or panicked and left. If you aren't on a gen, it might be a good option to avoid starting one. You might get interrupted which means that gen is blocked until the 30 seconds are up. If you do think starting a gen is a bad idea, it would be a good idea to either prevent anyone else from getting downed/scourge hooked (see the previous perk advice) or at least get the hooked survivor off so they can heal and help with gens again.

Now, this isn't a guaranteed strat to win, and solo q probably won't be able to pull these things off. But neither of those were ever going to be the case. The point is, this build IS counterable. And if you know what you're doing, you can easily get a 4 man out. This build is annoying, yes. But there's plenty you can do to stop a killer in their tracks if you plan and play accordingly.

  • WeaverReaver42
    WeaverReaver42 Member Posts: 213

And before anyone makes a comment about how much effort this is to pull off compared to what the killer has to do to make it happen...... Keep in mind, there's only one of them. If things weren't easier for them to pull off, they'd likely not stand a chance. Survivors are supposed to win through teamwork and strategy. Killers are supposed to be the bull in the china shop. They are vastly different playstyles. The fact you have to put more effort in to counter the killer isn't a flaw, it's the point of the game's design.

Don't forget killers had the brilliant strategy of 'just stand in front of the hooked survivor' taken away from them.

Not really, Covid just caught up to them and they had to learn to do social distancing.

Grim embrace doesn't need that change though, because by design the perk doesn't work if you tunnel.

Is this their secret plan to sell the artist to new players? or to say that dbd is not pay to win like they've done with nurse cause carmina is unlockable with free currency? 😈

After a bunch of awful survivor games with tryhard killers today, I can say with confidence that the issue is not Grim Embrace.

    The issue is DMS.

Whether it's been with Pain Res or Grim Embrace, or on it's own, DMS has been the main hurdle in getting gens done. Particularly because every killer wants to return to the gen immediately after an unhook.

Grim Embrace on it's own isn't too bad, and with DMS it actually led to the most bearable case of DMS tonight. When the killer knows where to go, DMS is a nightmare, and GE obscures where the target gen is, so it actually helps.
