What would happen if the Skull Merchant was removed from the game entirely?
Well, this is the most hated killer in the game and perhaps in the history of the entire game
I see many people asking for this killer to be removed from the game and they consider it a miserable failure even though it is in fairly good condition.
Let's be realistic, and as the question is written in the title of the post, how will it affect the entire game in the near and long term?
I think that once they are removed, the door will open to demand the removal of other things from the game, whether they are killers, survivors, perks, or the removal of entire content.

Why even contemplate this? She's going nowhere.

Yeap, not only it would be a dangerous precident to set, but all the money that Skull Merchant has made for BHVR would need to be refunded...
This would not be the profits being refunded, but the revenue... Money which likely doesn't exist anymore, as its probably already been rolled back into the company for later development/releases. Such a loss in company funds would result in a very substantial blow to BHVRs finances, that would at the very least severely impact the release of all potential future and in progress content, and in worse case may even snowball to actually killing the game for real.
The hatred for Skull Merchant at this point seems like a meme. Discussion about her has long been dead and devoid of constructive feedback (and ots questionable that it ever was), and she's become just an outlet that people love to hate on.

McCote said recently you will never lose characters you have purchased.

As you've said, the demands for every minor inconvenience to be removed from the game would increase. A lot.
Some players would lose a character that not only did they pay for, but also spent a lot of time and Bloodpoints on. There are P100 Skull Merchants after all, and those prestige journeys take time.
We would have one less killer to play as and against. Perhaps some players who have been here for a while would question why the same wasn't done for Legion back when their release was just as bad.
There would have to be refunds, extreme BPs and Iri Shards compensations, and considering the situation with Legacy I think some players would never even receive theirs.
Overall, it would be awful.

When Huntress exists?

Thwack wouldn’t exist sadly considering it’s the most unintentionally funny perk name in the game

I love her as a unique Killer character.I feel deeply hurt every time I see such posts. It's very sad😔

The last thing a game company is going to do is remove content that cost dev time.

I’d be happier playing survivor, that’s for sure.

And what did I say?🙄

EULA:
"BHVR has the absolute right to regulate, discontinue, update, modify or eliminate any Virtual Goods at any time in its sole discretion and BHVR shall have no liability to you or anyone else for these actions."
Theoretically, they could remove her without refunding anyone.

Discussion about Skull Merchant were never constructive. People were asking for her removal since practically day 1. People simply just refuse to adapt.

As much as it would be deserved, you can't just delete a character that people have paid for and invested time in. If it were even feasible, Demo, Steve, and Nancy would have been removed when Netlfix pulled the ST license. I mean it could in theory, but in practice it simply isn't going to happen.
If you set a precedent of content removal, people are going to be less confident in buying, and BHVR would lose a ton in future sales.
I don't think adaptation has anything do do with it. She's an irredeemable, POS killer, and there's no degree of adaptation that is going to make her anything less than painfully tedious to face. You can adapt the difficult killers with new mechanics, but there's no way to make anything fun out of the dumpster fire that is the SM.
But yeah, removal is a non-starter. People are just going to have to accept the here and there they'll have to tolerate her, like a root canal or prostate exam.

Well, to be fair, some players seem to no longer have a problem with Legion, and they were just as bad as Skull Merchant on their initial release.
It is likely that the sheer hatred towards Skull Merchant will dissipate at some point.

You know, fair point, you are correct. I did totally forget about that clause in EULA, so my point is factually wrong.
Though... that in of itself would be a PR disaster regarding anyone who did pay for the content. Like if a developer shows they will readily remove the content you've paid for... would you be inclined to buy future content? I would certainly think twice.... and like it or not, it's the players who buy the content that you really don't want to hack off.

It's pointless to even ask the question. She is a part of the game now. It doesn't matter if you like her or not. Good news is that like 98% of the games you play as a survivor won't see her. I think you can deal with running across her in one out of every 50 games.

Your response sounds as if I asked for it to be removed from the game
My post is about what will happen or what if and not "Please remove her from the game, please."

The only objective answer for what would happen is that the game would lose content.
Anything beyond that is purely subjective.
2 -
There'd be less whining about it on the forum and a few smug whiners who celebrate without realizing that loss of content is never a good thing, even if that content isn't the best, it can always be tweaked and improved.

I'll be honest whenever delete anything requests I assume they're from angry teenagers who don't have the slightest clue how game development works.
It's such an unserious thing to post.
