Or are you only targeting AFK Survivor with penalty? So if a Killer AFK because match isn't going their way it's fine but punish Survivor?

Killers AFKing because they are annoyed is understandable. Sometimes you just know you've lost and that there's nothing you can do about it. If a killer is AFK from the start of the game however, then they are just lowering their MMR most likely so they should be punished.

How do you know AFK survivors are being penalized?

You can report survivors and killers after the game for being AFK and that should theoretically lead to a penalty if they're reported enough. I've never heard about anyone penalized for going AFK though.

We bloom powerfully in lawless territories; we are magnificent. The police were moved by our beauty and threw away their guns.

The ethics of this game are very strange :(

This is correct. AFKing can be reported and there will be penalties if people AFK too much. But this usually only applies to Killers, since they are in the Trial the whole game and can farm XPs and Rift Shards with this (e.g. a cloaked Wraith who just loads in and does not move... this is just not really useable on Survivor since you will die eventually and probably quickly).

But you really have to AFK a lot to get a penalty.

Iirc killers automatically disconnect after a while.

Other than that we don't know, if anyone gets a penalty for being afk. You can only report them after the game is over and hope for the best. No matter what role they were playing.

As others already mentioned, purposely joining a match to stay AFK is against the rules as it's refusing to participate to the normal gameplay and you can report them for that.

Just remember to record your match, report in game and open a ticket here using the chat bot at the bottom of the page; if you are not able to attach the clip to the ticket, upload it on YouTube as unlisted and post the link in the ticket's description.

    Thank you!
