Lights out exposes how low your skill truly is
It is a refreshing game mode and I whish it would stay forever. DBD finally feels scary again BUT it also feels far less stressfull. No worries about pain res, dead mans switch or noed. No backround player, lithe, sprintburst or unbreakable. It really comes down to your skill and mindgames.
On the other hand people are barehanded and realise, they rely on perks and add-ons way too much. So killers fall back to the only thing they can do. Camping and tunnling.
Tunneling has become a bigger problem lately in dbd but lights out stripped killers from their beloved pain res, pop, the add ons and now they have to show how good they are with the bare killer power, their strategy and mindgames. So in result tunneling in lights out mode became a thing. And due to it's nature of killers having no terror radius, camping as well.
I already can feel angry killer mains comming at me pretending it's a valid strategy and something like that, but this is lights out. Even swf's get lost on the maps a lot. They don't have perks or toolboxes for gen rushing, aura reading and such. The map pool is limited so you can already adapt to that when choosing the killer.
Maybe they are frustrated because they realise that they do not have the skill they thought they had but maybe this is the wake up call then. A point to realise that you need to train the killer to master it's power.
So far I think lights out is the coolest thing in a long time if not the best thing ever. Unfortunately people are sweating even more now because their beloved builds are gone.
Same goes for some salty survivors. Without windows of oppurtunity, resiliance, lithe and adrenaline, some of these pt100 "look at my shiny skin" survivors didn't last for 10 seconds in chase.
I think it is hilarious to see both sides sweat but unfortunately a tunneling killer will still ruin the game. Maybe not as much as in normal dbd but still making it far less fun.

I can understand killers/survivors blaming their lack of skill and reliance on perks/add-ons on the mode being "bad" (it's not, really fun for me), but come on, "wake up call" bruh, dbd is a video game, no need to treat it as seriously as realizing that your alcoholism is bad and you need to change things in your life aka actual wake up call.

I used that word because people are just letting tunneling happen and not really doing much about it apart from complaining on websites that have nothing to do with the forums which the developers tend to read, hence the "wake up" part. Also, it was a little remark on the perk "Wake Up!". If you interpret that phrase as something so serious, you do you.

"I used that word"? Did you forget to switch forum accounts or something? lol
Anyway, the idea of the mode is good but so far my experience (only have played as a survivor so far) is similar to what has been said - killers usually camp hooks. So, you either get hooked and wait for the others to come to help and watch them get downed too, then wait till the hook timer runs out and you die. Or you just ######### on the hook to get out of the game faster.
Also, it feels weird that the killers can see their objectives (gens and hooks) but survivors cannot see theirs. This seems to be especially beneficial for killers such as Billy or Oni, who can use their power to quickly move from a gen to a gen, emerge out of nowhere and down survivors on gens with a single hit.
Personally, I just go through the event Tome, try to get the challanges done as fast as possible and ignore other stuff.

I know the game very well, but even for someone with 7k hrs it is very difficult to not get lost on a map I cannot see. I don't have much trouble to play without perks, as the only reason I use them in the first place is to mitigate some unfun killer tactics.
But the tunneling and camping is getting out of hand in this mode. I don't know why killers still do this. I was perfectly able to get a 3-4k without that with different killers.
I guess some players are just jerks. As always.

It was from my discussion regarding the game mode and this is the sentence I used it in: "I'm glad this isn't a permanent game mode, but a little reality check where you play a couple of games and then never want to play again since it's that bad."
The idea is good but as you said it's too easy on the killer's side to take advantage of. I don't think the event tome is linked to the modifier specifically so you might wanna try that out.

Not enjoying being slaughtered in the new game mode, but at least no Wallhack Myers or Insta-Removed from the Match Myers...

Because there are no survivor clues. Even if you walk out to a distant gen after hooking it, you will not encounter a survivor if it is cloaked, and since there is no PoP or other delay perk, the benefit of walking out far in the first place is slim. The most efficient way to encounter a survivor is to proxy camp where you hit the survivor who will come to your rescue. In addition, if you are rescued, you can tunnel and cut down on the number of people, leading to a delay in Gen.This kind of play is affirmed more than usual in the new game mode, where both sides have no parks, no add-ons, and search and rescue by sight does not work.
The killer who does not camp or tunnel, which you prefer in this game mode, is probably a superhuman who understands where the survivor is even in the dark and finishes the chase in an instant instead of having a delay perk, giving the survivor no time to work on his gen, or a player who misjudges or is holding back.

Funnily enough, I have been going out of my way to not tunnel, and if someone is hooked, to generally stay away from it. I hooked someone in the basement, and someone passed me as I was leaving. I kept going and ended up chasing someone on the other end of the map. By the time I finished hooking them and I was halfway back to the shack, that person FINALLY unhooked them in basement. They were to paranoid that I was hiding near shack. Had so much time to unhook and flee safely together. Got back to the shack as the hooked person left, and the rescuer was still hiding down in the basement.

I played Lights Out for a while with my friend. It was not fun. Our teammates pretty much refused to touch gens. I mean, I know it's like that in normal mode, but Lights Out somehow managed to actually be worse. Very few killers were having fun with the mode. My friend and I turned DbD off for good when a killer body blocked him for an entire match (13+ minutes), that was the final straw, a lot of bad matches culminating in a killer actually holding one of us hostage, convincing us we're not going to have any fun in this mode.

The state Lights Out is in can't stay. The majority of people I have seen talk about it won't play it because it is so killer sided. Stealth killers shouldn't be able to stalk from such a short distance they should have a minimum distance away to stalk. Also slugging has been awful in this game mode and if we get base kit UB killers will complain like they did with the Finisher Mori and I bet that is why it was scrapped. Instead of a fun game mode it's another sweat fest and I rather play normal mode then Lights Out if im going to have to sweat at least I can see.

Im not sure thats its actually any sided tbh.. Have you tried both sides?? I have, and its really easy to loose people as killer. Also, survivors in the 3 games i tried as killer, played dumb.. They unhooked within 4 secs of me hooking someone, not giving me any time to leave the hook. - ofc i returned.
Also there seem to be less tunneling in this mode when i play survivor.
- i do find it boring on both sides tbh.

I think it just says more about how frustrating a lot of the top perks on both sides are and about how bad the lack of any substantial basekit anti-tunnel is. The game mode makes it clear that tunneling is scummy and how nice the gameplay could be if you didn't have to be constantly paranoid of multiple Adrenalines, Unbreakables, Buckle Up + FTP, Background Player (def not meta, but it's really ######### annoying) and how nice it is to not have to repair the same gen 5 times over. A lower effort game mode like this will get sweaty in less than a day, but it wouldn't be so bad if playing against sweaty players wasn't so miserable in the first place.
More like some sort of wake up call for the devs, but they probably already know this and either don't care, haven't gotten around to it, feel like anti-tunnel is best implemented through perks, and/or they actually like the way the game is balanced.

I'd agree if the lights weren't out. Hard to display game skills when you're getting disorientated in a deadzone. Otherwise yeah, I like playing without perks. I've seen streamers using filters, which have helped alot more with visibility. So I'm not inclined to believe everyone's playing with the same disadvantages.

you realize that there is no borrow time in this mode? right? so killer can hook someone and just hit them immediately off hook.as soon as they get unhooked.

I know how effective tunneling is.
But you can't tell me that patrolling gens is difficult in a mode where survivors have no warning. Just.... Run around.
1 -
Uh, no? I hit a person that came off hook by accident and they got the BT effect.
4 -
Not true at all. It doesn’t display on the screen but it’s there. I used my bt many times yesterday to take hits.

Nah i only have this account, I dont know what he was refering to. But he got the idea. Wake up call was chosen as description because some people take this game way too serious. I mean like you said, it is a video game. But some people feel the sweaty need to win every single game at all cost. They probably don't have fun themself yet chose to play this game and by this ruining the experience for others as well.
If feel you. Camping and tunneling is the biggest problem this game currently has in my opinion

I love lights out mode! It's especially well suited to skilled players who know the maps.
I have 3k hrs into the game and find lights out to be refreshing, it reminds me of the old days of dbd!

I don't think you have to be superhuman to win a match as killer. I played dredge yesterday. DREDGE!!! He is like the poorest choice for lights out as he comes with directional audio. Still I was able to 4k without camping, tunneling, proxy camping, heck I think I kicked 4 gens the entire match.
Some killers may be worse for lights out some may be better but ultimately it stays a skill issue in my opinion. Sometimes you need luck as well as in every match of dbd but remember where you spotted survivors and where generators have been worked on is more important then ever in lights out.

i see. i played survivor and didn't see BT symbol.

I think it really goes to show how busted Survivor and Regression perks are in all honesty. Without their precious "Windows! I can't loop without my Windows!" or "Pain Res! I can't win games without my Pain Res!" it really shows who is and isn't good at the core game.
2 -
It’s there. Just not visually.

I don't even have a problem not to use Windows, but not seeing anything really is the main problem. Even with 7k hrs.
"Hey, I'm in a jungle gym! But where on the map?"
