When teasers are better than the real Killer

People who told us to manage your expectations were right. From all these teasers, which were very cool btw, we all thought it would be some creepy maybe stealth oriented killer. Nobody expected I think a killer with cannon as main weapon after such horror themed teasers.

What I will say tho the new survivor is pretty cool and its probably the first time where Survivor is more exciting than the new killer.

I think we should all stop trusting teasers. This isn't the first time either. Legion trailer was so missleading as it can get, you thought its like Killer who can pretend to be Survivor and instead we got gang of teenagers running around with knife to injure everyone. Skull Merchant people also thought it could be some cool cyborg or etc.

Now you can to some degree blame people for expecting something it was not, but at the same time when teasers have certain level of theme or points towards some gameplay element, when not delivered, it can be dissapointing. When creating a teaser, I bet you can to some degree think what people might expect from what you are showing to them.

Agreed, as much as mimic sounds fun, it just can't work with SWF being a thing. What we got can work so looking forward to playing it.

And that design is perfect. The skin possibilities is also huge

I dont think i've been more dissapointed with a killer before after feeling betrayed by the teasers.

The only redeeming factor from this chapter is that the new map seems pretty balanced and good looking and the new survivor is also really cool, incoming one of the most popular survivor because finally cute goth girl.

The way he looks is really off putting but not in a scary way and I dont wanna see that on my screen when playing as him or againts him.

His power is too early to make a real opinion on but at first glances its not that interesting or fun to use so overall, not really interested in the new killer.

Also Skull Merchant was really dissapointing at fist, but after her rework she's fun to play as, and I think she is pretty manageable if you try to counter her powe, she's definetly not more than a mid tier killer.

Maybe a few tweaks to make survivors counter her power more intuitive and fun.

I like killers where survivors can interact with their power.

I think the community likes to overhype something that isn't confirmed a lot, which is why I held my breath until release.

Looking at the times it was teased, it's clearly using animations from the lobby just edited in the doorbell camera teaser.

The tent teaser is interesting though. It had what looked like a second mouth and eyes, which possibly either means a skin that will come with it, or it implies the creature swaps it's skin depending on who it attacks.

I love how the new killer looks, sounds and especially moves. Top notch animations.

It's not only about the teasers though I agree sometimes people can be overhyped but this chapter had so much more potential for starters the killer should've been on all fours the entire match not only in some animations that's just missed potential the mimic idea was always silly but him doing nothing with the mimicking voices thing was a let down.

The ability is just not interesting (to me at least before you start flaming) the design as always is great but the ability is just not there

dunno where you got the second pair of eyes from, but it’s second mouth is on its back. It’s used in its mori.

The issue is it felt like they had a design for a killer, and a design for a power, and they just stuck them together with zero regard for whether they suited each other.

Both could be decent on their own with something that matches them, but together it's just a stretched dude that fires grenades for no conceivable reason.

I think if it had been the shapeshifter it would have been quite amusing. Even with a SWF if another “survivor” appears and gets on gen or does something normal it’d still throw many off. The letdown of it not being what was imagined is ok as it still can give ideas for the devs in the future.

The survivor is cool and brings out a new mechanic that will be fun. The killer could be difficult to balance once people get him down. The AOE anti loop cannon will upset many in the future. Add on the teleportation from properly placed husks around the loops as well. This at least will take skill to do so we shall see. I am optimistic and enjoy getting new content regardless.

The new design is amazing, but you are so true about the trailer misleading its audience. In no way did the trailer indicate that the Killer would be just another "human" standing on two legs (instead of crawling all creepy-like) wielding an axe and shooting purple gumballs from its stomach through a confusingly strange-looking worm pipe. It was a bit of a disappointment for me, but I do want to give BHVR applause for creating a new creepy monster like Dredge, instead of yet another human like Skull Merchant or Trickster.

It looks like BHVR is embracing the horror element of their game and while it's not quite there yet, at least they tried.

The only thing I’m disappointed with is his run animation. He should be on all fours with his neck contorted to where his head is at normal eye level (so the killer perspective won’t be too low and frustrating to play).

I can't lie I'm a little disappointed as well in this regard, I was definitely expecting a different type of power and it doesn't really seem to fit his theme at all, but I'll try to reserve further judgement there until I actually play him.

This is also one of the very few times I've ever been disappointed in the design for one of their original killers as well (ahem Skull Merchant). I think they tried to lean a little too hard into the body horror theme and to me at least it's less scary than it is goofy. The animations are super cool but he just doesn't really do it for me scary wise, I just chuckle every time I see him.

At first, I admit it looked rather dodgy from a first-person perspective and definitely felt underwhelming.

However, being able to go for trick shots , understanding the power more and seeing what it can do, I'm quite liking The Unknown! It's a very weird thing which looks really off when it has haste, but his power is actually fun to use! Not the best, but I don't want stompers - I want Killers which are fun an involving. This is it.

I'm still not getting the hype for Sable, although I like that they've introduced a new style of perk. They aren't the strongest of perks, but she seems to be built as a planning Survivor, hiding in the basement to prepare and recover.

The map is really good! Varied, interesting and nicely designed. How this also floats on the same Withered Isle plane as Gatden Of Joy I have no idea. Those 2 are like The Shimmering Isle from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

This is a grower of a chapter. It's growing on me, at least.

Killer design: 1 (Was a 0) but his walking animation is quite creepy. Not sure who put Bubba, Billy and Dwight in the washing machine but please don't try that again.

Killer power: 6 - Threw random powers from other killers all together into one it seems. Doesn't crawl which is a big suprise. Was expecting a runner mode esc power. Trick shots with the Ribena shooter is the only thing I like about it.

Map 9.9 - Love the woods aesthetic, the cinema genuinely left me gasped when I saw it. Lovely job done here.

I mean yes, there's that mouth, but the teaser has a second mouth with human teeth on what looks like it's side.

  • GentlemanFridge
    GentlemanFridge Member Posts: 5,796

I dont see what you mean. Its head is tilted to the side. The big mouth on the top is the one on its back.

Ah, perhaps I was seeing it wrong then. I could have sword I saw his head upright with a mouth to the side.

The mori shows it absorbing Survivors into blood/life force. Maybe it shapeshifts?

I think it's a bodysnatcher, stealing bodies and wearing them like a suit, malforming it into a monster so it can eat other people. The true monster is the fleshy tendrils that it uses to shoot its venom and kill survivors in its Mori animation. I think its cosmetics will be different people whose bodies it's taken over.

I saw some of the teasers and still knew that the killer wasn't going to be super cool since I know the gameplay loop.
