That's one of the most annoying things ever.
Why this is still in game after 8 years. Why survivor is being punished by rng for no reason. How you will know you will get skill check atm you wanted leave the gen? What is counterplay here? Why gen is losing progress for no reason.
Especially when you wanna counter PR + DMS combo and leave the gen. And game is deciding to reward killer with more regression because you got skill check but you can't do anything about it. Because you already left the gen.
And it's funny because solution is already in game. Why we are not making this work like Overcharge.

Leaving a gen should just cancel a skill check unless the skill check has gone through ~25% of the circle no reason to be able to remotely complete part of a gen but also no reason to just lose 10% progress because the game thought it would be funny

I'd still like to see Overcharge's skill check while running be swapped to normal skill checks and have Overcharge's skill check be an instant fail.

you already can with good enough timing in the otz clip he heard the sound but got off before the circle appeared for the skillcheck

That's why it should work like Overcharge. If you leave the gen, you will still get skill check. If you miss, you will lose 10% progress. That would be fair for both sides.

I already can, with extremely specific timing that comes down more to luck than anything else. Your idea would make it a very consistent trick to bypass a gameplay mechanic.

I don't understand why this is ever complained mechanic. you can dodge skill-checks by listening to sound warning prior. This was a technique called "Ruin Gen-tapping" where you could ignore ruin skill-checks. It is your own fault for exploding the generator. The only time that skill-check explodes are unavoidable is hex:lullaby 5 because there is no warning sound to go off gen. It is simply random.

There is a lot cases where you need to leave gen and it's just happens.
Also why it is bothers you when people complaining about annoying mechanic? If it is fine for you, good. But can you let people voice their problems please?

Yeah it's really bizarre how it functions. Got a great skill check and then let go of a gen after like three seconds and I instantly failed one. You can't predict it at all which is the worst part.

I think it's the survivors' fault... this is an obvious flaw in the game but I see people rarely complain about it. Killers are much better at complaining about faulty mechanics. This problem should have been solved years ago.

What would your thoughts be on counting as a missed skillcheck if the killer hits you during that skill check?
The scenario this would matter is, for example if a killer comes to grab you on a 99'd gen, but gets rewound by the server to instead m1 you, but as you run, you get a skillcheck. If you hit a great, you still finish the generator in the killers face while running away, even though you got grabbed on the killers screen.
Edit: Alternatively skillchecks hit while running away only count as goods, and thus do not progress the gen to avoid scenarios such as this?

I think if killer hit, it's fair to make it missed skill check. Or maybe just cancel the skill check.

It also counters Gearhead, Call of Brine, Merciless Storm, and Unnerving Presence. Maybe Huntress Lullaby and Coulrophobia too if you're fast enough. And the upcoming Undone perk.
So yeah, not a good idea.

Brand new players don’t even whiff a majority of their skill checks. Skill checks are more of a net positive for survivor than anything besides leaving and blowing a gen, something that’s completely rng based. They give points and the chance for increased progression, it wouldn’t be beneficial for survivors to bypass them.

I think it makes sense. You're elbow deep in a generator, messing with wires, gears, pulleys, and god knows what else, only to see a killer suddenly barreling toward you, so you quickly pull your hands out and book it, without worrying about crossing wires or getting things knotted.
I like Pulsar's idea though, let the skillcheck follow through even if you're running, instead of an instant fail.

i think it is streamer problem. streamer like to look at chat so listening for sound cue is too precise if your distracted. I don't think I ever blow up gens as survivor unless i am using hyperfocus. it is so detrimental. better then all the killer regression perks besides maybe pain res.
if they removed this mechanic, no experienced player would miss skill-checks.

If survivors are getting random generator explosions often enough that they consider it a problem, then they are leaving generators way too often.
Maybe BHVR could give survivors a grace period of 2 seconds after hitting a normal skill check, where it’s safe to let go of a generator. But also greatly increase the chances of a random generator explosion if a survivor lets go at any other time.
That would give survivors known safe times to leave a generator, and still discourages survivors from excessively pre leaving generators when the visual terror radius shows up. We don’t need to encourage survivors to excessively hide more than they currently do, so random generator explosions should always be in the game.
This would also add tension and decision making to the game. If the visual terror radius pops up, does a survivor try to wait for a skill check, or risk a generator explosion if they immediately leave? This is a horror game, and should have more tension moments like this.

You left the gen to counter PR + DMS, skill check happened.
You left the gen because killer was coming to your direction, skill check happened.
You left the gen to go for hook save, skill check happened.
There is a lot cases survivors are getting penalty for no reason. And no, it's not streamer problem. It's survivor problem. Killer should not get free regression. And survivor should not be punished for no reason.

One instance, I was injured and ran up to a friend working on a gen. She let go of the gen, causing it to blow up. She then tried to heal me, but because BHVR has one button for everything, she went back on the gen. She let go again, blowing it up once more, then healed me. Then we got back on the gen, and when the killer came to push us off of it, it blew up again.
30% regressed, purely by chance.
Survivors running away from the killer has really become a design fault in your head, hasn't it?

If you've got reflexes good enough to cancel skill checks like that, you've got reflexes good enough to hit great skill checks consistently, which provides strictly more value than not having to deal with them

400% slower regression for kicking a gen is weak base-kit game delay. missed skill-checks is only good base game delay mechanic for killer but no good player misses any skill-checks. This is only mechanic that makes survivors miss skill-checks. As I stated in my first post, it is entirely avoidable.

And it should be removed. Killers should get slowdown with their own actions, not from survivor mistakes. And in this case, it's not even survivor mistake because it can happen randomly.

Killers already got this trade with 5% regression with gen kicking and plus removing gen tapping. Now it's time to fix issue by survivor-side.

Sadly Peanits confirmed at some point that it is intentional. So yeah, a Dev thinks it is totally fine if you get auto-failed Skill Checks when you get up from a Gen.

It is quite ironic that you get a Chance to hit a Skill Check when letting go off a Gen when the Killer has a Perk...

Devs believed OoO was fine too. They also said OoO makes the user dies most times. It took years maybe but they finally saw the problem and fixed it.
So best we can do is voicing this annoying problem and hoping for fix.

If they change this mechanic they have to add regression to all regression perks and kicks or take other measures because they've balanced around this happening. And now with regression events being capped changing this could have a noticeable impact on gen speeds.

We already have fast enough regression. This change should've already happened, well before the meta shake up.
We have more regression now. Gen tapping is gone. The fair thing would be for this to be removed.

I never understood the vitriol and hatred that this mechanic incited in players. I always saw it as a certain threat that leaving gens can be dangerous. Without it everything would be completely known and up to players input. Players beyond a certain experience and hour level rarely miss skillchecks at all, so the mechanic is quite the dozer, but leaving gens still has this 10% chance to miss a skill check.
Its basically the killer equivalent of a 4% unhooking: its tragic, but not the end of the world, though it can still cost you the game.

Since they take this regression into consideration when balancing all other gen regression they would have to add more regression to what we already have.

Unless survivors learn countermeasures, they will continue to give the killer an advantage. If it is discovered that there is a DMS, normally advanced users will not carelessly touch the generator as long as the activation conditions are met. If I feel that I should complete the generator after watching the killer's actions, I will do so.
Everyone has reached a stage where they need a desire to learn.

I wasn't even going to comment on this as I wasn't thinking it doesn't happen that much... but just now I went into a couple of solo queue games and myself and a team mate had a gen blow up THREE TIMES when we changed position due to a Huntress trying to snipe us off it. It was an important mid gen so we were greeding it and we did not get to finish it because it gave us skill checks the second we got off to dodge a hatchet
I just had another match and barely got any gen progress since I took most of the aggro but even then I still had the gen I did work on blow up when I got off it.
So yeah, maybe I just haven't been paying attention but it almost feels like they made this more likely to happen than in the past?

Definitely way bigger issues to tackle than this very minor problem. It just random chaos like a hatch spawning directly under a survivor or a 4% off the hook.

No, audio cue happens before the skill check appear. You can press M1 to cancel at the very moment audio cue happens then Gen exploded, skill check not even showing. Lullaby or not, still the same.
Its not survivors fault to react something they dont even know its coming.

watch otz clip at 0:39. Otz states that he is going to get a skill-check then he lets go of the gen when skill-check warning plays but the gen does not explode. that is the gen-tapping trick where you can avoid skill-checks.
