The New Killer Has Resulted In A Lot Of Transphobia :(
The new Killer has outfits that cater to men and women but I’ve seen a lot of people intentionally using these outfits with names (often using slurs) specifically targeted towards attacking and harassing trans people.
I’ve had 3 matches already where people have done this and targeted me for using a Trans Pride charm, I’ve sent reports but it feels like nothing has really happened from the reports. Furthermore these people also harass me in the post-game chat or leave awful comments on my profile if I have already left the match.
I wish people were nicer and didn’t ruin the new Killer this way. :(
I’ve seen a lot of awful posts on social media as well (especially DBDTwitter), and I’ve basically had to take a break from the game altogether or only play Killer to avoid this stuff, it’s really bad.

That really sucks. Especially since this isn't really an issue that can be fixed, since it's just how the killer looks. Hopefully BHVR cracks down more on harassment, the reporting system feels like writing a report and feeding it into a wood chipper.

How would you know if something happened following your reports within just a few days? Normally you get a notification about action done following a report when you launch the game. In my experience it takes weeks or months for such a prompt to show up.
BTW how do you know they targeted you because of a charm? Did they tell you specifically?

Their names have transphobic slurs. They only go after me (the only Survivor with the Trans Pride charm). They let the other Survivors escape (suggesting I died really early on).
It’s blatantly obvious that they are targeting me for being trans and using the Trans Pride charm.
Also again, some have left transphobic comments on my profile or harassed me in the post-game, yet again, another blatant thing showing that I was being targeted.

I don't doubt that this sort of thing happens. But I do have a difficult time believing the problem is that rampant. Percentage wise, realistically how many people would behave this way? Even 10% seems shockingly high to me. 3 matches out of how many games played?

The only correlation is the multi-gendered cosmetics and that’s literally it. But it was enough for transphobes to run with. :(

You are really raising a serious problem that has nothing to do with the topic. This has nothing to do with BHVR or the character himself, who is literally a monster and the people are already trying to put a gender on him? Are you serious?
this is the fault of people's actions, which is sad but the game itself has nothing to do with that.

I don't understand the correlation between the new killer and this problem.
Awful things are done by awful people, regardless of what the game has to offer. BHVR needs to ban those players as soon as possible, that is what has to be done.

I'm sorry you are experiencing this kind of mistreatment. Whilst it's impossible to police tunneling, I hope BHVR is able to identify when people are saying bigoted things in the post game chat and doesn't hesitate to ban them. People like that should be purged from all forms of public life. May they all rot.

I'd report anyone with any sort of slur in their name, and if they outright say in chat that they targeted you for your trans charm then report that too (devs have access to the chat logs). I imagine any sort of action won't happen overnight, especially with people flooding the system with silly reports on tunnelling, teabagging, etc.

Legion is different. Legion is multiple different characters packaged into one. The Unknown is the same character but a body stealer.

Killer can be both male and female so means tons way more outfits and we can probably get more than 1 voice actor to voice the creature.
People I swear make things a issue no matter what. A Monster can wear a tutu and kill still.

I'm not trans but I use the trans flag because I support them and I've experienced it. Let me know how many people you know who use it who dont experience it and we can compare, but i'd guess its well over 70%

Is that really a thing people do? And how is it correlated to the new killer? If you're gonna act like an ######### then you can do it with any killer but i haven't heard of it before (not that I was actively looking for it).
I don't deny that this happens but I simply have a hard time wrapping my head around it. Who cares, if someone uses a specific charm? I find it more likely that this is just happenstance. Someone is targeted and they happen to have that specific charm.
This reminds me of Bubba's faces. Apparently people used them to be racist too but I have never seen anyone do that. And honestly I don't understand why anyone would. This is just a game after all. The person on the other end of the screen could be anyone and you wouldn't know a damn thing about them. Because it doesn't matter.

Also noteworthy: I do have the fact that I am trans on my Steam profile, but it's like a small section in a wall of text stuck in the middle of my bio... they can technically use that if they use Steam.

That's terrible. I really don't understand why anyone would care about that. But I guess, using logic to explain this isn't the right approach in the first place. That's definitely despicable behavior and I hope these people get banned.
It's just a pattern of colors after all. To some it means something but to me it's nothing more, so I really don't get the fuss about it. If it makes people feel happy to have a specific pattern of colors in the game, then good for them. But why would anyone else care?

The way the Unknown's cosmetics are created, you can mix the male and female body parts, essentially creating a mock transngender individual. Its really mean to especially target someone who is trans while using these cosmetics, your basically ignoring non LGBTQ members but going for people who are members

I think an easy fix to this is make each genders body parts sets so they can't be misused for harassment

It's a bit more than colors. It's a symbol of existence. It's a symbol of being able to stand after being dragged down repeatedly.
It holds a lot of meaning to those who wave it, which is why certain people dont like it.

U cant play with male and female body cosmetics as legion, so u can't really harrass people like that with this killer. By playing woth cosmetics of both genders, you essentially are creating a trans gender killer in a way.

To some people they mean something. To me they are just colors. I don't associate colors with people and I couldn't care less what flag someone uses. It's the person that I base my opinions on, not a group of people they consider themself part of. Everything else seems like overgeneralisation to me.

I really hope we don't see something like "ok so because few bad actors now we will link/remove/rework skins for Unknown" that would be pretty bad. Would be like punishing all players because of small % of bad actors doing this toxic stuff.

Damn, I was worried this would happen when I saw you could freely mix and match the female and male cosmetics.
I don't know how BHVR will prevent this, either. With Bubba it was as easy as removing the masks, but with Unknown, you can buy individual pieces of their cosmetics without buying the full set. So just forcing the sets to link together doesn't seem possible.

One of the best things I can tell you to do (if you haven't already) is get screen caps of these transphobic slurs that you are receiving. If this is not harassment exclusive to dbd (you did mention they harassed you on your profile but idk if you meant your actual gaming profile or your dbd one) you can screen cap that and report it to your platforms uppers be it steam, psn or Xbox. Again you probably thought of this already but if you haven't done this yet then I highly suggest it as the dbd report system is honestly a joke. I know this doesn't erase what people can do on the game itself but I also encourage you to not take it too much to heart as video games have the same rules as the Internet as a whole and it's a terrible and lawless place. Hope things get better for you

Okey this is something i can understand.
We have another post talking about the new killer and its cosmetics and transphobia. The claim there is that the cheerleader outfit is a madculin body in female clothing and thats what leads to people acting transphobic wich i could not understand since I could not see that body as masculin but this makes more sense
I can see how people might use the fact that you csn match male and female cosmetics together might leave room to use it to bully trans people especially if they specitarget users of the trans pride charm kinda reminds me of the buba problem we had.
Best thing would be to link them as sets wich would be kinda sad since then you could also not combine parts of two female skins but it may be the best they can do and ofcourse they need to target the people who act like this. But then bhvr should refund everyone the skins cause i know a lot of people dont like Sets and may had mot bought them if they where Sets from the beginning

How are you reporting them?
For chat harassment (in-game) and offensive user names the in-game report should be enough. Don't report them in-game or through support if they do that, if it's outside the game you need to report it on the platform where it happened (Steam for example).
If they are posting on your Steam profile you can report them there. They can and absolutely will be banned by Valve if they do that. You get a notification on Steam that tells you that they handled you report, but it can be slow.
For anything else, such as being targeted, you need to report in-game AND make a support ticket with evidence. If they are harassing you in the chat and your profile as well you can include that in the ticket, though I don't know if support needs that.

That's not me trying to diminish the problem btw, but I have followed you a while friend, and you have experienced quite a lot of people targetting you because of using the pride flag. Those people would do it with or without the Unknown cosmetics, and have done so for a long time....
How exactly is the Unknown different from the harassment in end game chat and the tunneling you've usually experienced? Reporting and action being taken is important sure, but I'm hoping you'll catch I'm more focusing on your own mental health/mindset, which is far more important.
You know these people are pathetic, and have no hold or sway over your value. Don't let them gain power over you by allowing them to upset you. They aren't worth listening to, and if someone is genuinely trying to upset people with this BS, you're a pro at this point, you've seen way worse and should be thinking "Really? That's the best you've got? LoL".
You're not a victim friend. Keep your head held high, own the insults they throw at you, and don't let them gain an inch on you. If they can't intimidate or upset you, they have nothing, and you win.

There will always be some rejects, and I'd just like to bring up the Bubba scenario when the survivor skinned faces were removed because of racist vermin using it.
The cosmetics could be reworked if things continue, and I would understand it. It would be a shame though. Perhaps reporting these players and some IP bans may help avoid this if possible though.

It's also not a problem in any way, or something that shouldn't be in this or any other game
What shouldn't be in the game are those who want to make being trans a problem. Luckily the solution is simple: just permaban them all. Just instantly, for the first offense. You have to go out of your way to be transphobic, and if you choose to do so you deserve to be removed from the community forever and instantly.

She's also said that she had no idea the killer would look like this and if she'd known the amount of transphobic vitriol that would spawn from it (there was no model at time of recording) she never would have taken the role so, yk, bad feelings all around for everyone affected by some anti-trans #########.

The cosmetics should not be reworked to cater to people with such an awful mindset. With that we can also remove the Pride Charms, simply because people get upset about them and start to tunnel people with the Pride Charm equipped. And you know as well as I do that this would be the wrong direction to go. (And it would also not solve the problem)
You dont cater to people like this, you ban them. If someone thinks it is funny or necessary to make transphobic nicknames while mis-matching Unknowns cosmetics to send some form of message, they can do that in another game. If someone thinks they can be transphobic on the DBDTwitter, they should be banned from it. Those people should simply not be part of the community, easy as that. There is freedom of speech and there is just being a dick. And just being a dick is enough of a reason to remove those people from whereever platform they operate, even in the game itself.

Does not surprise me in the slightest. And this is the sad thing. I honestly did not think that the cosmetics can be used in that kind of way, but it makes sense that some people think it is needed to do that.
Sadly I cannot say from my experience that BHVR is really taking action all the time. At some point I got tunneled out by a Doctor for wearing the Pride-Charm. And it was simply because of that, since they said it in Postgame-Chat and also called me names, from the F-Word to even worse things. And yet this person was not banned (I kept looking at their Steam-Profile for a few weeks after the incident, but nothing happened).
Yet I hope that they decide to act if it is clear that someone is doing that to hurt trans people. And I think transphobic nicknames should be a quite clear indicator for that.

It's sad to see but I'll repeat what I said somewhere else.
DBD is a horror themed game. The unknown is a simply a grotesque creature dressing up as the humans/victims it's seen, even to the point of bodiliy features. I'm not even a horror fan and I've seen 20 cheer leaders killed over the years.
It doesn't even represent trans people so there's no point in giving these people trying to make it that thought. The voice is also irrelevant, it was just another person doing their job.

Ok, I don't have deep thoughts on this but you seem to be taking it quite far. If you open yourself to the world for all to see, it's reasonable to expect these "bad actors" to give you hate and malice. Purple haze seemed to have good intentions and you kinda just threw them into the dirt there by making them sound terribly bad. I've gotten more hate in overwatch from the lgbtq+ community than anyone else and I say that even though half the profiles were privated. That doesn't make me feel the need to private my profile or hate that community just because those people were so toxic to me.
It's simply not as deep as people want it to be. Again grotesque creature replicated a cheer leader to the best of it's mundane abilities, f the people trying to make it transphobic and people talking about it will only make it worse. People get off on the disdain of others if it's their doing.

Call me jaded, I almost certainly am, but these read to me as either words of ignorance or the words of hatred, and the overlap between the two is getting substantially smaller.
People have been actively making it into a problem, and I admit the very public reaction particularly on twitter has if anything made it worse and more out-there, but I don't think it's reasonable to read a complaint about someone being targeted for their identity, and for the first response to be "If you stopped displaying your identity as much, you wouldn't be harassed as much". It's placing the blame on the victim of harassment for being harassed, instead of on the perpetrator of the harassment. So again, either words of ignorance or words of hatred, and in 95% of circumstances there genuinely isn't a difference anymore.

For example, there is no gender field on Steam profile, nor on DbD account. It's that they choose to reveal it and decisions must be free.
I say again and again, harassment is wrong. However, sadly, harassment does exist.
I think that risks that can be avoided should be avoided.

On topic/general discussion: it’s very weird for people to suggest hiding their identity before suggesting to punish/ban the harassers?? Like… it may not be intended that way but this does feel like victim blaming and please consider this may hurt people that have been likely in the closet for a long time and are now happy to express themselves. They shouldn’t expect harassment because of this.
