Is there a reason maps are flat?
I mean, if you think about it, the swamp is the only map that has land elevation, it's in the corners of the map but at least there are. The swamp is one of the most awaited maps due to the graphical rework.
I wonder what is stopping BHVR from making maps like this:
This is only an example, it is obvious that it is more difficult to make a map like this, but why can only the swamp there be elevated?

Artist would have a hard time on uneven maps.

because artist, twins, pyramid head and crouch "tech" exist.
damn i had to edit this twice already. please don't release more maps with f.ed up ground elevation.

The killers with the highest pick rate of the intire game..

Map elevation is bad and it outright makes several killers unplayable or just screws you over like the windows on Lery’s when playing pyramid head pretty much removed your range due to the elevation detecting it as a lower/higher floor
Those last 9 pyramid head mains 😔

For the sake of consistency.

Shout out to the time Eyerie and Garden both had little dips in the ground that got removed for some reason

trapper, hillbilly, nurse, doctor, freddy, plague, demogorgon, blight, pyramid head, twins, nemesis, pinhead, artist, skull merchant and unknow, they all suffer a lot from different elevations

took this just now
this crow lives in, like, a dip.

As others have stated, probably because of killer power issues.
Just another reason to wish for a new game engine that takes stuff like this into consideration to make things more interesting.

I couldn't resist...

Honestly Artist should have some sort of directional snap to snipe from different floors. Might make her really strong on Midwich and Game but it would make her kit more interesting.

The devs can barely get killer powers, map textures, & object collision to work on flat maps and now you're asking for more elevation? You might as well just have them killswitch every map in the game at that point, because they'll all be busted for months straight.

slippery slope eh?
You have to admit, it is funny to imagine the blight stumbling down the hillside towards the other end of the map after a missed turn

I'm fine with the small little dips like on Crows but too much ground elevation could really screw a few killers over for no reason. If BHVR could alter the killers so that stuff like Artist's strikes could path up and down the ground and whatnot this wouldn't be an issue, and in that case I'm more than fine with more of these.

Because it's easier. Just having a flat square with stuff dropped in the middle is easier to program than building complex terrain.

1: Coding, more things can break.
2: Balance, more obstructions make it easier for survivors to hide.
3: Design: Most maps have some type of buildings, buildings tend (not always) to be built around flattened land.
4: Fun: It might be neat to play a map once with a a large hill, but such a dominant feature would get boring really quickly.
5: Powers, killer powers rely on elevation. This is a coding issue, but also balance. If artist's power does not take into account elevation, she's a lot weaker. But if the coding is changed that she does, she becomes stronger on a lot of maps.

In lore explaination? Same reason everything else is "wrong" in the entities realm. The entity goes "ok I look through your memory Sable and found a cinema, a park and a lot of money wasted on pinball machines. I've combined all of these to recreate what I believe your home town is". Unless a character has a specific memory of a hill or elavation maybe the entity just assumes they don't exist, or chucks one of those smaller hills or dips down.

I would love to see more maps like swamp, but it might not happen. For me flat maps are so boring.
