Is ghostface bad?

caligraph
caligraph Member Posts: 359

I was reading that "whos the weakest" post and everyone is saying ghostface? Major shock to me I always thought of him as low B-high C tier, but nowhere near trapper or freddy. To those who think he is bad, why?

I think it really depends on who he goes against. I don't think he as bad as Trapper or Freddy, but he is definately on weaker side. He is noob stomper as every stealth killer. But against really good survivor he almost has no power, since stealth do nothing against Discord, it's to easy to reveal him, it's not that hard to run m1 killer for 1 minute + he has nothing against bodyblocks.

these tier lists are always completely subjective, I mained ghostface on console when he first came out and had no problem with even old ds etc. too many people put emphasis on stalk and underestimate his ability to drop tr

Really? I feel like it’s the opposite and most Ghostie players don’t stalk enough. They’ll go stealth and just whack everyone or forget they can just 99 in chase and leave them for later.

To answer the question, I think he’s underrated and not as bad as a lot of people say. He does have his problems though and is very map dependent. An open map like Borgo or Gas Heaven can make him rather difficult to play. He’s definitely closer the lower end of the tier list than the top, but no where near the bottom and DEFINITELY not as bad as Trapper and Freddy.

Agreed. His stalk doesn't get used nearly enough by most players. I'd suggest watching some Ghostface sets from DbDLeague and watch how those killers utilize him. It can even be viable to mark someone but not commit to them. That takes them out of any hook save equation and halts their ability to be aggressive.

The interesting thing about ghost face is that he's like spirit but for the survivors if you play without headphones I supposed that makes him stronger but with good headphones the flapping noises his costume makes is as bad as dredge's squelching noises making his "stealth" terrible. The problem then becomes his back up power Dredge has a bunch of little things to back up their bad stealth, wraith can go zoom, Myers can just kill you with tombstone and even with that not equipped his stealth is much better and he can actually snowball, Sadako can also just kill you and has better mobility, Chucky has a great dash attack, Pig has one of the best slowdown mechanics basekit.

Meanwhile Ghostface is just going around making loud af flapping noises like he's in a wind tunnel at all times and even if you get stalked you just play him like you're against Oni and play super safe dropping pallets and what is he going to do? He has 0 chase power so he just has to eat them. I do genuinely think he's the worst killer in the game because at least Trapper can shutdown a loop or if he gets basement just end the game right there and Freddy has antiloop and mobility. Ghostface is just bad stealth and an instadown mechanic good loopers don't care about.

The issue with Ghostface to me is that you can hear him coming to your area if you listen enough, and if people keep tabs on his location, and take him out of stalk, he is pretty much powerless.

Him hitting a non-exposed survivor removes a ton of stalk progress off them, and good survivors will force Ghostface to hit them if their at a pallet or window, etc.

His only saving aspect for him is his add-ons.

Do you even have to ask?

I’d put him bottom 5. Lots of bad maps and getting revealed is extremely inconsistent as well as too easy. Also very hard to play a stealth killer against swf where they’re all calling out your location all game. If they made it so he wasn’t revealed even after you broke LoS and basic hits didn’t remove stalk progress he’d be significantly better.

Not freedy/trapper levels, but close for sure.

I love GF but ufff, you need to do 10 times more effort to get to the same point as other killer with less.

Bottom 10 for sure, may be bottom 5.

I play both Trapper and Freddy. Freddy is my main and I can do good with him. I'm very comfortable with him after 4 years.

    100% THIS!

Every Freddy and Trapper that I go against (which is rare, but it happens) has SoloQ dead at 5 gens. 4 if we're really lucky.

I had a Trapper today. We were all dead at 5 generators. It was so hilarious. I laughed out loud as I was on my 1st hook, which turned into my 2nd, which turned into my 3rd.

It depends entirely on who is playing the Killer. Tier lists are pointless.

The League you're talking about literally puts Ghostface in the lowest tier of balancing where almost all of the good survivor perks are banned to use against him and they only have him be played on Lery's and nowhere else, like that right there should tell you everything about how "good" Ghostface actually is if they need to favor him so much and put so many restrictions on the survivors in order to make him viable.

I've seen him do well in comp DBD. If people can have success in comp then you can beat regular survivors you will run into in pub matches. A lot of people love to exaggerate how bad killers actually are in a real match.

You forgot to mention the part where you will never play against survivors who are remotely close to that level in a real game.

His problem is similar to that of Trapper and Hag: his power just does not work against SWFs. As soon as a 4man finds out who you are, they will always snap you wherever you are, so against SWF you are a plain m1 killer, with the only power of being able to crouch at loops.

Ghostface is a little map dependent but he is not even close to being the weakest killer.

He is inconsistent on outdoor maps but on indoor maps, especially Lery's he is fairly strong even against good survivors.

He's a stealth killer that has one of the loudest telegraphs in the game. I really don't understand why BHVR keeps making these "stealth killers" but then giving them an extremely obvious, loud tell that they are nearby.

  • Krazzik

He's not bottom tier but he's placed below average usually. Pretty much all the 'stealth killers' are bad competitively, at least the ones where stealth is a big part of their kit. Wraith, Sadako, Ghostface and Pig are all usually rated bottom tier or the next one up at best, and Ghostie is probably the best out of those four, him or Sadako at least.

The issue is that good survivors will see you coming no matter what you do and pre-run. Or they'll hear you if you're Wraith and run to a pallet or window while you spend time uncloaking. Without surprise hits you're just a basic m1 killer as most of them, except Pig I guess but even after the buff her ambush is still not great in most loops.

I find that so annoying as well and defeats the point of being stealth. I don’t know why opening eyes and looking around isn’t considered good enough counter play.

And despite this you still used comp play as an argument above, double standards much ?

Thing with Ghostie is 99ing a stalk is where his real power shines. Having people stalked and ready to pop can very quickly allow him to snowball, but without it he can really struggle.

This means he is affected badly by clutter on maps. He needs to get lines of sight to stalk without being revealed himself, which means the more guff in the map, the closer he has to get, and the harder it is to build stalk without being broken out of power. Elevations can also help him as people don't tend to look up.

He also likes naturally dark maps that are hard to see him... all of this makes him a bit map dependent.

Problem with that though is by sticking him on Lery’s you are once again restricting his stalk. Lery’s is good for stealth, but due to the amount of LOS blockers and the placement of gens it is really hard to actually stalk anyone. Probably an unpopular opinion, but Lery’s is overrated for Ghostface and just forces him to be an M1 stealth killer for most of the match.

He is ultimately powerless when survivors are careful enough, it works decent in low level gameplay, but certainly not in high level gameplay

Ghostface's power is nullified by survivors paying attention. As much as I want to enjoy him, he is bad.

because they need counter-play on LOS generators. can't have ghostface getting a couple of unfair hits.

basic hits didn’t remove stalk progress he’d be significantly better.

something that i have asked for long time. never happened, even after his reworks.

He's the closest example of what a "vanilla M1 killer" is. He spends most of his matches as an 115 killer without power.
