Will mouse and keyboard be supported on consoles?

I would love to just plug in a mouse and keyboard and use it (just like every other cross-platform game on the planet) without needing to buy a PC. PC players can plug in controllers so why can't we console players plug in a mouse and keyboard?

    I play on pc, but I hope they implement this change for console players soon, feels unfair not to allow it imo.
