Thoughts on Semi Tunneling to Psyche Out Survivors?

Just fancied sharing a little story, and I was wondering if anyone else does this?

So I was playing Spirit the other day in Chaos Shuffle, and I had a Felix using a purple flashlight, full add-ons. People who listen to my rambling crap often (appreciate the tolerance) may recall I tend to avoid camping and tunneling as much as possible, and usually adhere to a "6 hook before sacrifice" rule. However as I've gone up against better and better survivors, sticking to this rule gets tougher, especially when you're getting constantly harrassed by a player with a flashlight around pallets.

Now I have a personal theory that Spirit is way more fun to play against if she isn't playing the tunnel a survivor off hook strategy... and especially on someone strong like her, my little rule above feels more important to stick to. While playing her without a proper build however, playing this way is actually kinda tough...

So back to my game, I was struggling a little for my first down; I was scoring hits, but I kept getting body blocked/had people running scratch mark interference. I normally run Stridor to allow me to hear whimpering and survivor sounds better, but catching up to a just hit survivor can prove tough with people crossing over the scratches and blood drops don't happen at the right times. Anyway, I finally scored a down on the Meg, and I picked up facing the wall... but not enough though it seems, as Felix was able to shine a light on my ear and blind me. 🙄

So because I was already a little slow off the mark this game, I quickly identified this player was gonna be a problem. Even though he was full health, I had 2 survivors injured, 1 who has just healed, I decided I needed this player to not be involved in any of my future chases. So I gunned after him, pushing Spirit to just do Spirit things and downed him reasonably quickly to throw him on hook.

As I say I don't camp, but I chased and hit a nearby Claudette and injured her. At this moment I saw Meg going to unhook Felix, I quickly chased after, and as she unhooked I was able to score a hit as she unhooked. Normally at this point I'd go for Meg; she has no speed boost left, she's a 1 hit down, near a hook... but at this moment I triggered my Haunting and I ran Felix down. He made it to a weak pallet but I counted out the BT and was able to mind game for a down. I threw him back on the hook for stage 2.

I was at this point I went back to playing like normal, I ignkred him in a couplenof chases cause he was very wary of me, and I didn't actually kill Felix until hook 7... but doing this I noticed not only was he much less keen to run interference, but I also noticed the whole team began to run less interference as well. I assume mostly because they knew they had to go for gens as Felix is now Dead on Hook.

This was the strongest example to date that I've seen of a total shift in survivor attitude, but I've used this strategy a few times before. Has anyone else experienced/enjoyed this phenomenon?

Bonus Point: There have been times where I've seen a survivor still not care, and go for big bombastic plays with risky saves while on death hook, despite a nearby Claudette being on 0 hook stages... at these moments I've had to decide whether or not to break my 6 hook rule because... if you're gonna throw yourself in the killers face while on death hook... I should kill you out of respect right?

    Yeah I've noticed this change in attitude a lot when someone is on death hook, even when they aren't being tunnelled. Just like how someone with Dead Hard plays super aggressive and greedy, but as soon as it's used they pre-drop everything. Once they are in danger they realise they should start playing safer.

    My favourite "semi-tunnelling" thing (which isn't really tunnelling) is when I want to chase the unhooker so I act like I'm going to tunnel so that the unhooker will play less safe to protect them even though I was always planning on going for them in the first place.

    you either come here and let me hit you or your friend unfortunatly goes on the hook again

    My general rule is to try to not kill until only two gens are left. I try to avoid getting a survivor twice in a row but it's more a guideline than anything.

    Whenever a survivor is annoying that way, I give him more attention.

    Usually he gets more careful when he is on death hook.

    Given your title, I thought you meant to speak about making it look like you are tunneling someone so the others try to protect him and get in chases for him.

    Personally, I don't play much anymore but my SO on the other side of the room does - exclusively in a swf. None of those in that swf particularly care about escaping, they care about getting good chases and doing some funny things (they even fight over who gets chased and try to "steal" the killer off someone else). Sometimes someone in the group wants to batman-save in the most ridiculous situations so they bring a suitable build all day, FL included.

    Now, that being said, they go from funny shenanigans to "aight, guess we gotta sweat now" real quick when they get the impression the killer wants to sweat. And they do know how to sweat and the Eternal-like comms stress me out even over here where I sit 😬 Anyway, point is: reading your situation I could vividly imagine the comms my SO and the group would have had in that situation which would also have meant a night-and-day-like change in playstyles. And my personal thought on that is: Even if people go into the match with a not very serious attitude quite a number of those people go "challenge accepted" when the other side decides they disagree. And if you look like you tunnel you get treated like you tunnel.
