Is a sound notification for an unhook really necessary?

Something I've been wondering about for a little is whether the sound notification for an unhook really being necessary for the killer. The Hud on the side of the screen displays the same information and the killer should be at least somewhat aware of where they've hooked people. I'm not quite sure why this is a feature in the game and/or if it had a purpose at some point. Personally, when I play Killer, I often find myself moving to noise notifications if I'm not already in a chase and this often includes unhooks. I don't like coming back to hooks right after an unhook because it feels bad to me on both sides and I don't like winning that way. I feel like this feature seems to encourage the habit of moving back to a recent unhook but I could be jaded here because I play more Survivor than Killer.

This is not me trying to start a fight, I would just like to see what other players think of it.

Edit: Just to clarify my stance, I don't have a problem with the noise it makes, I think that's fine. I have more of a problem with the visual cue on the location of the hook.
