Does Behavior report illegal activities to the authorities?
I think many of us can agree that this game has one of the most toxic communities in gaming. Only Dota has given me more toxicity than this game in my 30+ years of gaming. I am generally curious if Behavior reports people who make real life death threats, or telling people to kill themselves irl, etc to the proper authorities to try to get some real consequences. I know some people just say get thicker skin or it's part of online gaming, but a line has to be drawn in the sand somewhere otherwise or things will continue to push worse and worse.

They don't take it "higher up", so to speak, nor have I heard of any game that does so. It'd be a right mess to figure out, let alone enforce.
They do, however, ban those players when you report them.

Doubt it, but telling someone to off themselves in the endgame chat probably warrants a permaban.

I don't remember any company doing something so dumb.
Highest escalation they can do is banning the account, or hardware ban. But even that is way over the top for chat.
Game company that would regularly get people into trouble IRL would not be popular...
I have seen anything even close basically only when companies were dealing with hackers. That usually went to law suits.
But for end game chat? That's next level pathetic.

No it would be a waste of time, you have to remember, neither party knows how they look or where they live.

I think even if they want to do it (it would be a hell of work to do that), they would not even be able to. The person you are talking to can live in a completely different country so their laws will be different. E.g. I am pretty sure that in my country the person who got insulted or threatened needs to go to the authorities, a third party would not be able to do so.

Ok… So what would reporting such things to the authorities do? It is not like they are criminal offenses? Telling someone to kill themselves is neither an insult nor a threat and a death threat is only illegal if the average victim would take it seriously? And to take something serious a random person on the internet says, that does not know anything about you is very unrealistic… Therefore I don't really see how these things could have consequences in that way?
Besides that I don't really think DBD has such a toxic community. The issue is just that the game does not have a mute function for players in chat for whatever reason… Would help a lot to not have to deal with peoples nonsense… Especially because the filter is so garbage it would have been much better to not have a filter but a mute function for every player in chat.

The issue is that stuff over the internet can get enforced in every country where the result of the action happens… So let me give you an example… You sit in England, I sit in Germany and the three other people in chat sit in Greece, the US and Spain or something. If I insult you guys now it technically happens in all 5 countries and can therefore get enforced in all of them.
It is kind of a special thing in international criminal law…

They definitely don't report anyone to the authorities for this stuff. Even if they tried, that wouldn't do much. DIfferent countries have different laws, so the first thing they'd need to do is track the IP address that was used and then file a report to that country's respective legal authorities. This however would also require them to be familiar with the laws in that country because otherwise they would risk reporting a bunch of people that by the law cannot be further prosecuted. That would take a huge amount of resoucres and quite frankly it's not worth the headache.
They do however ban you for these things, which is the harshest penalty they can apply.

I want to start by stressing that there's a huge difference between threatening someone and insults or hate speech. If someone says they are going to do something, that's a threat; they are announcing their intent to do something. If someone suggests you should do something, that's not a threat; they are not announcing an intent to do something. We don't tolerate either and both will result in bans, but there's a very important distinction between the two.
We do report credible real life threats to the authorities, as is common with many other games & social media platforms. This fortunately does not happen often, but when people could be in danger, it's not taken lightly. People have shared horror stories about the time they made a poor taste 'joke' in a game or on social media and ended up with a knock on the door. Don't make their mistake, it's not worth it. Even if you know it's an empty threat, nobody else has any way of knowing that. We will do everything we can to keep people safe.
