Is a sound notification for an unhook really necessary?
Something I've been wondering about for a little is whether the sound notification for an unhook really being necessary for the killer. The Hud on the side of the screen displays the same information and the killer should be at least somewhat aware of where they've hooked people. I'm not quite sure why this is a feature in the game and/or if it had a purpose at some point. Personally, when I play Killer, I often find myself moving to noise notifications if I'm not already in a chase and this often includes unhooks. I don't like coming back to hooks right after an unhook because it feels bad to me on both sides and I don't like winning that way. I feel like this feature seems to encourage the habit of moving back to a recent unhook but I could be jaded here because I play more Survivor than Killer.
This is not me trying to start a fight, I would just like to see what other players think of it.
Edit: Just to clarify my stance, I don't have a problem with the noise it makes, I think that's fine. I have more of a problem with the visual cue on the location of the hook.

Since going back to the hook to tunnel the unhooked person has always been meta, it's definitely necessary and killer mains will miss the feature if it ever gets removed.

If this really was the play you were going for, you could always pay attention to the HUD and remember where you hooked people. It just feels like an unnecessary thing at this point that encourages newer killers to adopt this strategy from the beginning.

Then they will just start proxycamping instead in order not to accidentally miss the unhook event.

I admit I can find myself somewhere between hyperfocused and flaky (and IRL too sometimes >.> but I digress); when playing Killer and looking for Survivors or chasing them or focused on a challenge like a glyph, I kind of appreciate the noise notification that someone was rescued from a hook, so I'm aware that Survivor is back in the match.

I mean, it's a major event in the game.
It'd be like if Survivors weren't notified about someone getting hooked. It's really important information.

Its only purpose is to notify tunnelers that it's tunneling time.

Its time to buff Guardian to delay the notification by 5 seconds

Same goes for survivor side, why would it be necessary for a notification for the survivor who just finished a Gen need a visual cue on screen to say "hey, don't forget, this Gen you just finished was right here, case you got yourself turned around, alright? I got your back boo" 🥴

It can be easy to get turned around on maps and forget where you've hooked someone. If the killer hasn't found someone before the hooked survivor gets unhooked, then they have a point of reference where two survivors are.

Actually good idea.

Well the issue is most killers have inflated their MMR by breezing through earlier games back using tactics like camping/tunneling to remove that as a easy reliable strategy would see many killers quit or complain the game is unfair as they never created a good foundation on how to play before getting into high MMR. They need tunneling because with out it they will lose every game.

If you really want to buff it, change the notification to another hook entirely! 😂😜

As was said in this thread, it's a pretty important event happening in game. And I don't think giving players less information is beneficial game design. For people who don't want to tunnel, it's still very useful to know where survivors are and when things are happening. And when you're in chase, it's easy for a lot of people to miss what's happening on the HUD.
You mentioned instinctively going back to hook due to the notification when you're not in chase already, but by your own argument wouldn't you be aware where the survivor was hooked and pay attention to the HUD, to deduce what happened?

I mean the info would still be there, the sound and notification just make it easier for people, rather than having to keep your eyes glued to the HUD. Doesn't really make sense to remove and make things more awkward.

I like this idea very much. However I do agree with the idea that it’s there because it is an important game event. I’m not sure I would want to change it without trying it out first.

As a huntress enjoyer I actually hate all the notification bubbles ngl, I wish you could toggle them on or off.

The bane of my existence lol, but the sound is nice. Shout out old hangman’s trick 💀

What did old hmt do? Hell I don't know what current hangman's does lol

Showed the auras of survivors within 3 meters of a hook which made it dummy easy to hit people with hatchets healing under hooks

not really? Tunnelers keep an eye on the hooked person and regular killers just ignore it pretty much

Ahhh I see now lol

Probably because hooks are meant to be defended, and killers are more or less meant to strategize rescue aspect of the game
If notification is unneeded, hook itself is a pointless mechanics and deserves to go, personally I believe it's the case

As a main survi i can tell you, it is, as the very same that we get the sound notification when another surv is hooked.

It's not that black and white. Many return to the hook when they hear that sound and has not yet found anyone. Ofcourse if someone really wants to tunnel it's not going to stop them but if they don't pay attention it might cause delay at least. It would not be anyway strong but adding that effect to quardian would make that perk bit better maybe even some would use it.

I like the sound notification but in certain scenarios its just blinding me whenever im playing a killer with some sort of range. Should really make it so if you're looking in the direction of the sound notif it makes it go away quicker.

The bubble for sound notifications should be replaced with seeing the aura of whatever was highlighted for 3 seconds in a green/purple/unused color and be seen even if blinded by residual manifest. This could be changed with colorblind settingscand would also help deaf or hard of hearing players as the bubble may remove their only form of tracking if it gets in the way. For survivors, they can make it to where you see the hooked survivor for 5 seconds, even if suffering from blindness.
