Survivors should be able to tell if a Killer is using anonymous mode.
Anonymous mode does have legitimate uses but to be frank the majority of the time its just an excuse to be toxic. When I see my fellow survivors using the mode I immediately exit the lobby. That not people can't be rude while using their actual usernames. Rather the mode simply encourages the worst players in the game to be as awful as they want. Since they don't face any consequences for their awful behavior when nobody knows their username to remember them by.
Killers also like to use anonymous mode as an excuse to be rude to randoms, but you can't tell that until the game is over. And it would be preferable if you could just leave the lobby before ever being exposed to it.
It doesn't need to tell you their actual name or which killer they're playing. Something as simple as "anonymous killer" would suffice when the killer is in the lobby.

This is pure confirmation bias. You focus on those people who are Anon and toxic, but ignore that the majority who uses Anon mode is NOT toxic.
I have also seen plenty of people being toxic without being anonymous.

That's ridiculous. I'm on PlayStation, I keep anonymous mode on because I can't change my name. I don't play toxic, I just don't want to be harassed or have my name in someone's YouTube video or anything. Judging and dodging players, both killers and survivors, because they use anonymous mode is ridiculous. No one wants to be obligated to turn off anonymous mode just to not get dodged.
I get lots of anonymous killers who play just fine and lots of unfun killers whose names are visible.

what exactly do you mean when you say they are toxic and/or rude? And are you sure you do not encounter non-anonymous players doing the very same?
Btw, if it’s against the game rules, you can report it - doesn’t matter if the player is anonymous or not. If it’s just an unfun playstyle then i really don’t think toxic players care that much about having their gamer tag revealed?5 -
Well said. Anonymous mode doesn't cause people to play toxic. This would only lead to preemptive lobby dodging in the chance the killer could play toxic and since people have very different ideas of what can be seen as toxic, this could become a real issue.

And yet the toxicity I see mostly comes from anonymous players and dodging lobbies with anonymous has resulted in my games overall being less awful.

There's nothing wrong with dodging lobbies.

You're acting like somebody dodging the lobby when they're see you're anon is some great inconvenience when it's just not.
We're both waiting 5-10 seconds for a replacement, what a tragedy.0 -
Please highlight the part of my post where I said only anonymous players are rude and non-anonymous players are not.
Anyways if it bothers you this much then it kinda indicates that you like to use anonymous mode to be rude and having it called out hurt your feelings.0 -
In my soloQ games, toxic teammates who cooperate with the killer are in 95% of cases console players with open names. I've yet to encounter a memorable troll survivor with anon mode.

In what universe is dodging a lobby a "real issue." People can choose not to play with you when the game isn't started and there's objectively nothing wrong with choosing that option.
I don't care if its a bias or a fallacy or whatever irrelevant buzzwords you wanna quote off wikipedia to tell me I'm wrong. Because I know my overall experience has improved by not playing with anon survivors. And the few moments those games are bad are mostly anonymous killers.0 -
Actually, you're greatly inconveniencing the poor player who gets shoved in your spot. Dodging messes up the matchmaking by "backfilling" the lobby. BHVR has stated the matchmaking replaces the person who left with whoever it can grab quickest, disregarding MMR. Backfilling causes horrible matchups leading to unfun matches. No one can stop you from dodging a lobby, but don't pretend it has no effect on a match other than players waiting a few more seconds. Lobby dodging affects everyone in the match long after you leave.
Right now, people in the lobby have no information about the killer. If you give them any information, even just "anonymous," then people will think it's important information simply because they have access to it and it's the only information they have. It will create meaning where none exists, the same way survivors are judged by their prestige despite how meaningless it is.
There's no reason to give players extra information that has no bearing on anything so you can justify ruining other people's matches because of a correlation that exists in your head.

Personally, I'm not a fan of anonymous mode. However, I don't think that removing it would change anything.
I would be more in favor of rewarding players for positive behavior. For example, if you are rated positively in the tally screen, you receive a 5% bonus for each positive rating until the next rank reset. If you are rated well 20 times during the month, you will receive a bonus of 100% on every bloodpoint earned.1 -
In the same universe in which we all would like to play the game eventually without waiting 5 minutes in the lobby because some dicks decide to dodge anonymous players. This is also the same universe in which back filling disables matchmaking, so you could 5 people over by leaving and having a beginner join a lobby of way more experienced players. The other survivors won't be happy because they have dead weight on their team, the beginner won't be happy because they'll have a very difficult time and the killer won't be happy because the match is decided from the very start.
You know, I could cherry pick my games too and my experience might actually get better for it. Especially since that is also confirmation bias (couldn't help myself). It doesn't mean, that that's a good thing. You don't fix toxicity that way and you don't reduce it either. You only make people affraid to use anonymous mode because they don't want to be dodged. At that point, the feature loses it's purpose.
You are gaslighting yourself, if you unironically think that this helps in any way.

While a good idea in theory… this would honestly just turn into a way for SWFs to get extra points.

Good point. SWF's should not be able to vote for team members.

We don't often agree, but with this I can back you up 100%. I am always a bit sad when I can't look up some info on the other players, but I am quite aware why someone would want to stay anonymous even when they don't plan to be toxic. Some killers will dodge a lobby when someone has many more hours then themselves, besically the same as with P100 survivors. Hours and P100 are indeed a mark of someone who played a lot, but you can easily played a lot of DBD without becoming good. I myself am one of the best cases, I hace nearly 3k hours, but most as killer. When I play survivor I might occasional have moments of pure greatness, but most of the time I play like a noob.
If I were to dodge every lobby with anomynous survivors, then I wold probably only get 2 or 3 games per night.

Why do you have a problem with anonymous players when you don’t think they are more rude than non-anonymous players? Your entire post was about them being toxic/rude??
Also, you didn’t answer my question: what do you think is toxic and/or rude in this game?
also also, sorry to inform you but I do not play on anonymous mode. I literally never even tried it for even one match…And re read my post again, nothing indicates I am bothered by your post at all, I literally just asked objective questions to try to understand where you are coming from better and gave some info towards reporting
2 -
You know why I use anonymous mode as a killer? I don't keep my profile private because I shouldn't have to for one game and survivors will come to your steam profile just because they lost and continue to talk trash, also that way when I play survivor I don't have randoms that I've killed before trying to sandbag me just due to someone being entitled and a sore loser
3 -
Just another reason to remove the lobby. Just load into the game once matchmaking has found 5 people. The improvement to Matchmaking will be worth it to lose the little benefit of the lobby.
2 -
I use anon mode because 7 times out 10, the killer will drop chases (with injured survivors) to chase me instead (even though I am healthy). Doesn't matter which character I play. I do not click flashlights, emote spam them, or in any way provoke them. 😔
If I am on a big losing streak and my rating drops, I get awfully inexperienced survivors for teammates. The skill floor for survivor is MUCH lower than for killer, so it's a slaughter. I use perks like Sole Survivor to get my escapes (playing for hatch is not enough since that counts as a draw). I'll play the match out as best I can, but when it eventualy (and inevitably) comes down to the hatch game, I let the killer have it and use the head start on the exit gate to skedaddle. I hide my name from my teammates so they don't recognize me and grief me in the next matches, knowing I will leave them to die.
0 -
Why do killers need to hide their name to be toxic? Survivors don't know who the killer is until the end, so they have no way of preventing playing against them.
2 -
You know that you can disable or even ignore chat after game?
Btw. Topic was already discussed several times.
0 -
I have counter idea to show if killer is anonymous.
Instead
Make all players hidden from eachother. Players might see no more than character others are playing (and items they have), but no names, no prestiges, nothing, before end of the match.
1 -
no
0 -
Considering how DBD players will stalk your profile and add you to send harassment/death threats on every platform I don't think you should be punished for hiding your name.
1 -
So you're ruining lobbies and matchmaking for everyone because you can't handle someone wanting to keep their info private. Real nice
4 -
Dodging wreaks their matchmaking system badly.
