Calling All Killers

Unknown2765
Unknown2765 Member Posts: 2,477

Hey killers!

I'm not a killer main anymore, but I still jump in to complete my Tome challenges. Lately, I've noticed more camping and tunneling (at least in my games as survivor) since Lara Croft joined our beloved game.

So, I've decided to embrace a "friendly mode" when i am playing killer, making on silly builds and just having a fun with survivors. It's been a lot of fun, and I invite you all to join my "summer crusade." Let's show some "love" to the other side and remember that we're here to enjoy the game together.

I hope this inspires a few of you to join in and make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

    It started resurging before Lara Croft's addition, sadly.

    I genuinely think it's time for this to actually be tackled through a rework of gameplay mechanics, because you're right, there seems to be little place for fun builds anymore.

    Yeah survivor has been especially rough lately, killers seem to be taking advantage of the endurance bug which sucks.

    I can't remember how we played without basekit BT tbh.

    All groups i played with tonight were in on it, took some time for some of the survivors to see that i was not hostile. I had 1 person yesterday who didnt get it, that kept BMing me, and he died. but that is the only kill i have made since i started, one guy didnt leave a map and he died too, but that was not my fault.

    If you're gonna throw games as killer, please play Ghostface, so that the devs look at his super low kill rates that you're helping to provide and give him a buff.

    That actually really funny.... because just recently i decided to stop playing nice. Solo q full of quitters they no longer deserve any mercy.

    of course i will give hatch occasionally

    That is not what im experiencing, i wish i did more screenshots tonight, but here is one just a few hours old (i was boxed in with 4 survivors around me) everyone picked it up so far, try nodding at survivors that does a lot.

    All survivors i have been playing with tonight have been in on this, last game they actually initiated it. (im EU server, im not sure if that makes a difference)

    I will forever hold the opinion that people who camp, tunnel or slug are just crap killers. I'm able to get 3 - 4Ks pretty frequently without needing to do any of that, and I suck - at least in terms of using killer powers, in which case I typically forget the killer can, you know, do that… like Vecna's hand thing and the ability to fly. But still, if I can get 3 - 4Ks by just smacking people, without slugging or camping or tunneling, then so can everyone else. Use any of those play styles is just admitting you're a worse player than someone who forgets killers have powers.

    I'm not talking about throwing completely, really, I'm just talking about in normal gameplay. Even if I back off of recently unhooked survivors, try to focus on chasing, and run niche perks that aren't totally hidden from survivors, I'm getting hit with gas pedal stuck in the down position sweat and toxicity. I don't think throwing is really a functional way to make the game less toxic and more fun, because it doesn't change how people will treat proper gameplay. I'm not playing a more fun form of DbD if I throw, I'm just not playing DbD at all.

  • Neaxolotl

    I'm pretty sure any serious survivors would feel extremely bad when their opponent wasn't trying their best, so I'd make sure everyone will enjoy the game by trying as much as possible

  • arcaneGospel
    arcaneGospel Member Posts: 243

    I'm not talking about throwing completely, I'm rather talking about trying to play normally without necessarily 'tryharding,' or what-have-you. If I back off of recently unhooked survivors and run niche perks, I don't get survivors playing any less overly-optimized in return. I just lose faster and have even less fun.

    I think throwing is, itself, not helpful. It's not making regular play any better, and it's not actually playing the game. It's just not playing DbD while having it open. It doesn't change how people approach actual, real gameplay, it just wastes time.

    All groups i have been playing with have expressed that they were happy about it, should we not let them be the judge? im still both chasing, looping and downing people. I just dont kill them.

    See, the issue with 'having fun' as killer is that you're up against four other players who aren't, most of the time. They'll blitz generators and dip, rinse and repeat.

    And so what if they blitz gens? i am all good with that, a lot of people want the Adept Achivement, and i dont mind if i help them get it.

    I have had groups that stayed and played around after the gens were done

    usually i'm chill… BUT:

    • if you bring a map offering i'll play unfun (aka camping and tunneling) since map offering COMPLETELY ruin part of the fun, not to mention that people who bring those offerings are most of the times tryharders that want to win at all costs
    • if you bring a instaheal (anti hemorrage syringe/styptic agent) or i suspect a bnp i'll tunnel (at this point you are playing for winning and not for having fun) since i usually play with meme builds and meme addons (padded jaws, speed limiter, etc etc)
    • if you start to be toxic for no reason then you'll have what you ask: my complete attention for you (i'll tunnel you to death)
    • if you start using perks for anti tunneling and anti camping aganist me while i'm actually playing fair (bodyblock with basekit bt and off the record in order to deny my chase with the other survivors and strike me with ds once i knock you down, you can bet your ass that i won't stop to following you until you are out of the game)
    • if you bring head on and flashlights with the purpose of bullying me i won't have mercy
    • if you rush generators and won't give me the time needed to do some points, you'll force me to tunnel in order to get at least some kills
    • if you constantly sabotage my hooks while i'm going to hook someone be sure that i won't be chill anymore

    except in those cases i'm chill enough to play only for hooks

    p.s: in case all of those conditions are met in a single time then expect deaths by bleeding out, hits on the hooks and nodding since at this point your main goal is to make the game more miserable as possible for the other people

    I say play the way you want. You bought the game. Just don't cheat. Camp, tunnel, tbag, click, it doesn't matter to me. I just play the game. Cause at the end of the day that's all it is. A game.

    The nature of a game is you win some and you lose some. Just click the next button. Play how you want. If you want to be nice go for it. If you want to sweat go for it. I'm never going to give you a hard time for how you chose to play.

    Remember, win and lose with dignity.

    And this is where you differ from the people in this thread that give you "negative" comments.

    You may not care how you are treated when playing "nice" but in general people don't like it when they try to be nice and the feedback ends up being indifference or even hostility.

    You may have been lucky here but I can tell from my experience it wasn't ever really better than what the others have said. I am also from EU (Germany).

    I haven't played since July '21 and played in your proposed way during the 2 years prior to that. To give survivor a break, because complaints about tunneling and so on were numerous back then too, and to see what kind of feedback I would get.

    The result were 80% indifference with no change in gameplay from survivors, meaning short matches, tagging flashlight clicking and so on.

    10% were what you describe, survivor goofing off, taking consideration for me and positive feedback in chat.

    10% were open hostility and toxicity in after game chat.

    When 90% of all feedback don't have any positive or encouraging effect, then I don't blame anyone but the devs that this game is going downhill or is at least not improving over the years.

    There is ABSOLUTELY NO incentive for killer to be nice aside from their own satisfaction from playing nice, the gas lighting and complaints from survivors.

    I quit before/upon running out of "being nice" but I can tell this game will drain it from most.

    I make some kill, but as always
    It's pretty rare I play "nice" at the beginning, nor I play rough, but I see that each survivor got stomp, I got more "friendly" and in a lot of case, give the hatch

    But no pity for the sweaty one

    Every killer game I've had tonight has been extremely negative, full of teabaggers, flashlighters, Head On + Flashbang, bully squads, it's every single game.

    How about you be positive enough for the rest of us? If it's as easy as you act like it is, then you should have no problem doing so.

    I love the initiative!

    I’ll preface by saying as a survivor, I don’t expect or need a killer to be ‘friendly’ as long as they’re not toxic (and of course vice versa - and this is how things ‘should’ be but sadly isn’t a lot of the times).

    But when I do see a friendly or funny killer - whether farming or not (so they offer me hatch for example having played the game normally until that point) I’ll always as a rule, prioritise giving myself up to be hooked or mori’d first as it shouldn’t be taken for granted that killer should be the one to give a goodwill gesture.

    Similarly, if there is a killer I know who has genuinely struggled in the match, I’d want them to get points and will show them my boon and let them kill me.

    Of course we have ALL suffered horrible experiences and sometimes the gestures can be thrown in your face - but surely even one person who makes these gestures can potentially have a domino cycle effect and spread some good vibes :)

    I like to think if I ever player with or against (most) people on this forums, (other than probably getting killed quickly lol) I’d enjoy the match regardless of win or loss as people seem to show general courtesy at the very least and most likely can read the room well enough to not be toxic unwarranted.

    Here is a screenshot of a steam conversation I had a with a killer (I’ve blurred their name out but kept my own in svreenshot).

    If you want to play nice thats good for you. But realize this is a PvP game. You dont have to shut down opinions when people put their own fun against the fun from strangers.

    I get that, im a former killer main, playing 6 hours a day when i played most. I quit as killer because the game became stressing and unfun as killer (for me). Another killer main befriended me and we started to play together as a 2 man and later both 3 and 4 person swf with other people we found. The reason i started doing this was that the tunneling and proxy camping are becoming way to common in my opinion, and i wanted to give survivors a breathing room where they could relax. And hopefully the primary goal of playing the game, besides the game being pvp, is to have fun together.

    I am not staying like this forever, but for a couple of weeks i will cut survivors some slack. - and im surprised how fun im actually having with survivors that also do silly stuff. When i giggle when i play, then im having a good game, no matter if i get 0k or 4k.

    I agree with this sentiment to a degree. It's starting to feel like Lara players are worse than Sable's. IDK how that is even possible?!

    -

    To OP: I love the initiative, but fact of the matter is that both sides are miserable at the moment. With the amount of bugs in the game, getting instantly downed after being unhooked and killers just abusing that, still tunneling and going out of their way to make the games more miserable than before. It's the same with survivors. I played a couple of soloq games last night and almost just uninstalled the game. The number of times I died on 1st hook, got hard-tunneled, and had several matches of killers 4-man slugging until the entire timer ran out for literally no reason (no one was toxic, TB-ed or gen-rushed)…. it's worse than the Anniversary sweat, I can tell you that much.

    I love to play nice as Wesker, especially if it's an RE lobby, but his bugs make it impossible to have a modicum of fun, and that's disregarding how every lobby brings 4 toolboxes 💀 oh and ofc there is the bug that has 2 gens popping at once, so fun.

    EDIT: I left out the horrendous things people say in ECG, come to write on your Steam profile, or add you as a friend so they can talk BS in your DMs. IDK if it's an EU thing, but man it is everything but fun.

  • Laluzi
    Laluzi Member Posts: 6,223

    Wesker's bugs are the epitome of fun, though? They don't affect gameplay or provide an advantage, they're just silly. It's a bit stale now that everyone knows about it, but on the 16th and 17th I was mostly playing Wesker with the goal of getting every survivor to drive an invisible car. People's reactions were hilarious - every third survivor would just stop what they were doing mid-chase and start scooting in circles even before they knew I was friendly. Some people would run up to me at the start of the match and ask for the glitch. Also saw tons of survivors pointing at their floating brethren and following them around. The only lobbies I got that didn't have some sense of whimsy about the whole thing were the complete babies I got after too many games like that.

  • Phantom_
    Phantom_ Member Posts: 1,351

    Wanna change, please? I mostly get sweat squads who don't know what fun is. The only ones that do are usually RE players. Like I'm not even playing as a Blighted Wesker, but with the STARS fit. Like come on he screams that he is chill 😔

    Wish I had a time machine to lend you. The fun tapered off when the bug stopped surprising people. Maybe Blighted Wesker is the answer, that's my fit. Still, I wish you luck in finding some memelords before the bug gets fixed!

    I only got one sweat squad and they went from tbagging me to tbagging their teammate the first time someone got on their invisible go-kart.

    sable of the treads, what is your wisdom

    As i alredy said, fine for you. And you'll make much more BP aswell by holding back and not rushing the objective. But you are acting as if people that play to win are at fault here.

  • H2H

    I don’t think farming and deliberately playing badly to let survivors win is fun.

  • Moonras2
    Moonras2 Member Posts: 380

    I haven't been able to play but I always try to have a good fun match and to give one in return if I can. I don't enjoy straight farming so I try to mix it by playing a little wide open at the start and then slacking as the match goes on. After that I'm all game for goofiness whether I "win" by game standards or not.

    As survivor it's a little harder to do but I do my best. I don't want to ruin another survivors win so I don't usually offer myself up to be hooked unless I point them out of the gate first. There are even times when they will run back in and join me to let the killer hook them as well. I will often switch from a gen to a chest or totem if the gens are just flying by with no hooks.

  • Gmoore23
    Gmoore23 Member Posts: 193

    I think the biggest thing lately is how fast gens can fly, but even with that said, I personally try to just have a good time while also letting the survivors have fun too. Every now and then I catch myself slugging, but I never really mean to and immediately just feel like a real turd for doing so. In terms of camping and tunnelling, I don't really do that either, much less than even the slugs.

    I think having a good, even number of goofy fun games and winning fun games is gonna be a much more healthy way to play, and I do that on both sides. Heck, even in the win games, I still try to meme a little. Point is, I try to keep things as fun as possible. A good example: I've really just recently gotten decent at PC gaming, and I swapped over to PC in late December/early January. The other day, I finally figured out how to spin. So I was doing a daily last night having to play everyone's favorite Killer, Twins. I chased someone as Victor for like two minutes just doing little spins here and there. I can only hope the person on the other side of the screen was laughing, but with it being Twins, I can't say I'd blame them for still being upset.

    All of that is just to say that you can still have fun and win, or you can win by doing the fun thing (even if the game says you lost).

    In my experience survivors want exact opposite than that. To me really is not point to try my best always as matchmaking is bad and puts me regularly agains't babies who I beat at 5 gens with m1 killers without even trying. So if I can make their game experience bit better that gives me more joy than just destroying them.

    I do prefer balanced matches above everything else.. Which is rare, but can happen from time to time.

    An experienced killer, experienced survivors, but the minority of players treating it as a game instead of as some E-Sport tournament.. Those who do will do, and there's no stopping them, so best to ignore them.

    That basically means, from my side as a killer..
    - Trying to avoid tunneling, unless the unhooked survivor tries to bodyblock me or I lost a sight of the healthy one while still seeing the injured one;
    - Avoiding camping purely out of finding it boring; I want some action, to keep playing.. And Rin isn't actually all that good for camping, given that I don't use Save The Best For Last, afterall;
    - No slugging, leaving downed survivors on the ground.. Unless there's a flashylight player in SWF, in which case I need to make sure the pick up is safe to begin with;
    - Otherwise, I play as usually. Going for hooks and hits, trying to evoke fear and have the survivors run away from me, respecting me as a killer instead of teasing me and .. Knowing very well that I can't do anything about that, ahahahah..

    As a survivor..
    - Going for rescuing if no party is going; Thanks to Kindred, I do always know what's going on;
    - Playing without items, because I do very well realize just how much the game can become unbalanced with four Brand New Parts, for example.. Otherwise, using the lowest rarities to give myself some challenge;
    - Playing the game as is expected to - Doing totems if Hex: No One Escapes Death is to be expected and I have time for that, otherwise sticking for generators.. However, prioritizing first and foremost healing other survivors, as I need that for my Second Wind and Empathic Connection makes it all the easier;
    - No attempts to provoke the killer by repeatedly crouching, etcetera.. (As I'm aware that this does trigger players for some reason).

    Generally speaking..
    - Complimenting those who deserve it, trying to build a friendly and casual focused atmosphere during the match and at the end of the match.
    From time to time, people get into each other just because they play the game in a way they dislike. Like, some other day I got a few players who were trying to provoke each other, one has even resorted towards taking the game personally by replying with vulgarism.. And that's when I kind of step-in, ask them for the reasoning for such a behavior.. Because it doesn't belong there, nor does it make sense to take it onto other people.

    But, to actually provide a reply to yours in the topic..

    I do dislike those players like you, I really and truly do.
    Don't get me wrong.
    I am all for treating the game as a game and not as some kinda E-Sport tournament, but to avoid killing as a killer?
    Please, I'd be bored and wouldn't wanna play. I need the killer to chase me, while providing me a chance (avoiding tunneling X slugging) to have fun, and if even that doesn't help.. Then I am solely the issue and problem that's preventing me from having fun. That's time for some other distraction from real life instead of this game, if it doesn't work out as I want it to.
    So, I do want players to play the game.. Yeah.
    Without taking it personally, and more or less being respectful towards each others.. Which does happen from time to time, but all that competitive mindset and competitive players do truly discourage other players from being friendly and respectful, and that's what I have a problem with. I don't wanna be part of such an environment, so I tend to avoid competition at all costs, unless it's the kind of competition to match the way the opposition treats it, but never ever starting it on my own because that'd make me feel bad for them.

    From my very recent, personal experien e, there has been a little more bad manners from some killers (hitting on hook without any reason), but I hasten to add I've not seen a reduction in good attitudes by killers:

    An example today was Ghost Face. He downed me in the shack then went hunting in the direction of the final survivor. In that time, I'd squirmed behind the shack and - when the last survivor was hooked - the hatch appeared, but the prompted didn't! I spent a moment trying to get in any position around it and on it to get in, but no prompt. Ghost Face came back, and initially I thought he was gonna be a sod as he closed the hatch then started teabagging a few metres away. However, he picked me up and went to the Exit Gate, let me wriggle free and let me escape. I left a toolbox in thanks.

    So, it's not to say killers have become less nice. It's moreso I've noticed more bm'ing. As a 50/50 player, I make sure not to piss the other side off necessarily, so I know it's not that. Just remember that hitting on the final hook and teabagging at the exit are basically the same thing. Just be better.
