How does one avoid being chased immediately after getting unhooked?

I have been seeing a lot of killers rushing back at top speed to the unhooked survivor and immediately chased and downed again. How does one avoid this?

Oh, tunneling? You can't. It's considered a valid play style apparently, and people will defend themselves and their right to do so vehemently. Only thing we can do is run perks like OTR or DS and buy and extra 30sec to a minute.

You can't decide the tactic used by your opponent.

However you can get Off The Record, Dead Hard, and DS to make it more difficult.

Not healing under the hook can help but if the killer wants to tunnel then they're gonna tunnel and you can't really stop it. It's the biggest issue with this game and has been the biggest issue for years now but the devs refuse to do anything to combat it.

There's a handful of perks that can make it take a little longer for the killer to tunnel you out, but none of them actually stop tunneling or even deter the killer from tunneling.

You can take Wicked to solve the "do we heal under hook or somewhere else" dilemma, or your teammates can do that with Babysitter.

The best way to deal with killers who do something you don't want them to, is not to punish them but to remove their agency entirely

If you force a killer to eat DS or OTR you only slow them down. Things like Stealth can be more useful than a mere stun. If you play a survivor like Claire for example, a killer may not notice you in the area with Iron Will because she's normally so loud.

Dont unhook someone 2 seconds after the killer leaves. I know you can’t control that but this should be standard for everyone because I will guaranteed come back immediately if you can’t wait for me to leave.

On the same hand, don’t unhook too late either. If there is 10 seconds left on the timer you can be sure I’ll be there to try and secure stage 2.

Don’t body block for a healthy unhooker. Sometimes I’ll return to unhook if I can’t find anyone and go after the unhooker.

If I am losing then there is nothing that can be done. I want to win and will do what it takes. I have been in situations where I am losing bad and ended up slugging the whole team and winning.

If you are toxic then there is also nothing that can be done to stop me from being there for your unhook.

If that's how the killer wants to play, there's really nothing you can do but delay the inevitable, sadly.

The best you can do it use the aforementioned perks and hope your teammates are savvy enough not to make it easier for the killer to tunnel you.

Fortunately, the majority don't play this way.

It really comes down to whoever unhooks you. If they pull you off infront of the killer then you're screwed. Ideally your teammate should wait until the killer is engaged with another survivor. That's the safest time to unhook. Killers tend to return to the hook if they haven't found anyone by the time the unhook happens.

Well you could listen to all those other people being passive aggressive, or you could consider teamwork. I play Survivor too. I face the same Killers you do, more or less. If your teammates aren't unhooking in the Killer's face, and you simply move off quickly you should be fine. You also have base kit protection from one hit. The person that unhooks you SHOULD also be there to take the chase. If the Killer rushes back and doesn't see you (because you left) then their only immediate target should be the person who unhooked you and while visible should have a head start to looping.

If you get eaten off the hook that isn't the Killer being mean or unfair. It is bad Survivor play, pure and simple. I just played eight games in a row. All of them were 3 outs, and I died in only two. The Killer did return the hook now and then and I simply wasn't there, was hidden nearby, or my teammate took the chase. Neither of the two times I died were right after getting unhooked. I don't think I'm some masterful Survivor. I just had commonsense teammates and I exercised commonsense myself. There was a time you didn't even have base kit Endurance after getting unhooked. People got by; you will too.

Teamwork. The person unhooking you should avoid farming you, and stay local and visible to take the chase if the Killer returns. You should move off if need be quickly and by the most secure route to take care of your business. That's it.

"Don’t body block for a healthy unhooker. Sometimes I’ll return to unhook if I can’t find anyone and go after the unhooker."

THIS. if i come back to the hook cause i could not find someone else and you jump into me to tank a hit you have given up on all coplain rights you wanted to be tunneld.

on a second note if you unhook and you hear the killer comming try to be more visual then the unhooked player. if i can go after the unhooker i will do that since i dont like tunneling but if i have only scratchmakrs to follow its a dice roll and i wont ignore the unhooked guy just cause fortuna was against him

There are 2 types on tunneling, those who do it at specific times in order to win as a viable strategy, and those who do it at 5 gens with no reason or it being necessary, but the bottom line is that you are right, there is nothing you can do about it in solo queue specifically, even having one friend in comms to help you can cause a lot of issues for the killer, being good in chase and knowing where to run, bringing anti tunnel to waste more of the killers time etc

It depends, tunneling and camping at various points in the game are good strategy for the killer, all you can do it accept it and try to have fun, maybe it's boring for some people who just want to sit on gens and never get chased but there are things you can do/ your team can do to help you and make the killer waste more time, wasting time for killers can be detrimental to them, in you are in comms or have smart teammates, body blocking, taking a down even if you have gen pressure can be strong, bring anti tunnel perks, DS, OTR, have a friend bring new babysitter because that perk is nuts, have a good chase, know where to run etc. Chances are the killer will stay on you but you and a friend or more are able to keep you alive longer while also doing gens then you are in a winning position.

The majority that I have been seeing have been playing this way, yesterday I was able to do 8 matches in less than half an hour because I kept running into them.

I should have qualified that by saying overall most people don't play that way.

I don't want to make assumptions about where you're at in the game, but killers at very low MMR will do it more because they haven't developed their game sense/skills much, and coming back to the place you know survivors are (and at least one injured one) is the easiest thing to do.

It's common move for two types of killer players:

    1. Bad (often newer), insecure players
    2. Players who play like their very lives depend on it

Play killer instead. Or hope you face someone who doesn't tunnel.

Pro-tip: don't take a hit for a teammate when you've been unhooked. Whether they are healthy or injured. If you're taking a hit right off hook then it means you're all a-okay to be chased immediately. You then will be tunneled.

According to your explanation you are not the one that gets chased after beeing unhooked? Then you can bring the Perk Babysitter to better protect your teammates. It is now a really strong Perk and can help against a lot of killers that try to tunnel. Borrowed Time is also a good Perk because most killers only wait the 10sec but not beyond that. Reassurance is also a good Perk for that because a killer cannot tunnel someone that is on the hook. So they have to make the decision if it's good to wait near the hook for tunnling or better to leave.

If you get tunnled, bring at least one Perk for that like DS, Off the Record, or Dead Hard. This can be really helpful.

Otherwise, you can protect your teammate by taking a protection hit for them or sit on generators. You can also try to go down under pallets since this makes many killers nervous especially when another survivor is around. This can buy you some time for generators. Of cause, the obvious tactic is good looping and dropping everything so the killer waste a lot of time which can be a mistake. Tunnling might be sometimes the right play but not many killers tunnel the right survivor or realise that their tunnel is their lose. Thus, sometimes you have this rare matches where the killer tunnels one survivor out of the game at 5gens.
