New Scratch Mark Update:
How is no one talking about this?
It's a massive buff that makes the stealth part of the game even less viable for survivors.
New tile designs plus this? You just supposed to rush gens then?
All scrach marks needed were color blind filters.
Filters will be meta like stretch rez was for survivor.

No, it isn't. Not unless you're using the Lightweight perk. Playing Killer is so frustrating because they have been fading for a while now and seemed to be getting much worse.
I played two custom matches against the bots this morning and I would lose them in chase constantly.
It's not a buff. This is long overdue and a bug fix as far as I'm concerned.
Edit: Sorry I didn't see the video you posted lol 😆
The scratch marks are not consistent now and I'm happy it is being addressed.

Definitely a buff.
With filters its gonna be ridiculous.
6 -
scratch marks are meant to be seen for searching and keeping up chases for killers. The adjustments are only meant to improve visibility on certain textures and such so it’s more consistent overall.
If you try to play stealthy, don’t leave scratch marks all over the place. That’s still very much possible and certain perks support this.
62 -
The thing I‘m worried about is when you see them over the whole map shinning like a star. This way it would be unfair.
7 -
Scratch marks have been broken for quite a few patches now, spawning in weird places and with huge gaps, all without the aid of any perks. You should only be able to hide your scratch marks with a perk or by walking. And on certain maps, they've been practically invisible at times. So I'm glad they're finally fixing them.
I don't think PC players using filters for a competitive advantage has anything to do with fixing a broken game mechanic.
And if players want to make their games look absolutely awful in the hope that they'll win an RNG heavy casual game with no ranking system of any kind, I think maybe they just need to chill a bit.
12 -
To be fair, you're supposed to be able to see scratch marks across the map. That and crows being disturbed are the main ways killers have of noticing survivor positions at basekit.
The basekit solution on the survivor end, if you're trying to hide, is to not run or to have LoS blockers between you and the killer. Otherwise, you should expect that the killer might notice you and come to chase you.

forums being over dramatic again

I don‘t think it‘s meant to be a shining star, but we have to wait how they will do it. Maybe it’s just me but I never see the crows flying up. I‘m too blind for this.
The perks that allow hiding getting nerfed😂.
Maps became too small and weak to allow seeing scratch marks over the whole map in my opinion.

I didn't know bugs warranted buffs. While we're at it, can we make tiles stronger seeing as I get stuck on invisible objects?

This is the one and only buff killers got in this update.
3 -
This doesn't seem like a buff; it looks more like a fix for the scratch marks.
In the past, scratch marks were very clear, but starting from a certain version, they gradually became blurry, causing many complaints.
If I'm a killer, and during a chase, I lose the target because of unclear scratch marks, it prevents me from quickly entering the next chase. Therefore, I can only choose to go back and defend the generators until I see the next target. This playstyle inevitably prolongs the game time. I don't think this is what the developers want to see.
5 -
If you are being stealthy why are you leaving scratch marks
29 -
Scratch marks are NOT apart of being stealthy. Scratches are made to punish you for running which is not stealthy. If you want to stealth you walk or crouch.
This was a much needed change and the filters point is irrelevant as survivors have been able to see red stains THROUGH WALLS for years now. You can’t stop either side from sweating.
10 -
My main issue is legit that this is basically Predator t2. So I feel like that perk needs a rework with that change too
0 -
It's not a "buff" though, it's just returning scratch marks to the state they were at about a year or so ago. BHVR do have a record of accidentally breaking stuff like this (like the time they buffed Male Survivors to have a better fast vault than the Female Survivors).
6 -
If you find a survivor on the last gen, chase them then see scratch marks near that same gen are you not gonna go defend that gen?
0 -
Typically, killers determine whether there are survivors near a generator not through scratch marks, but by the generator's progress. If the generator's progress increases periodically, it indicates that a survivor is nearby, and the killer will become more vigilant, even if no scratch marks are left behind.
Moreover, the overly defensive playstyle around generators has already been addressed by the recently added 3-gen mechanism, which limits killers from defending a specific generator too aggressively. This is not an issue.
3 -
Did you know "after" is much more closer to the games in the past tho
Those scratch marks definitely got nerfed, intended or not, and it's now fixed to be "normal"
This is not a buff, I'd call it a bug fix even
8 -
Your argument was being able to track surivors helps to not have to revert to gensitting but at the same time it facilitates it.
You can now see that another survivor is approaching the last gen and you can leave chase to protect said gen.
0 -
Under normal circumstances, if survivors want to avoid being detected, they naturally move slowly. If survivors don't run, they won't leave any scratch marks. Even if scratch marks are optimized, it won't cause any changes.
3 -
Idk if you are out of the loop, but predator no longer does this, in fact it does the opposite, it clumps scratch marks toghether making them harder to see, while yes the perk needs a rework because it is detrimental to use it idk how its related to this change.
1 -
Nah, the scratchmark change is alright. - If it turns out to be a "buff", meaning it contributes to killrates rising, then that will get addressed eventually.
0 -
Filters aside, this is more of a bugfix/consistency pass than a buff. It was always intended to be this way, as far as I can tell.
6 -
It's a buff, absolutely, even if its returning to a prior state, but until we see it in the PTB kind of hard to talk about. It can be anything from a minor adjustment to game altering.
0 -
Thats exactly what the update will do tho, they will gather scratchmarks more than they used to gather before. I get that the new scratchmarks had a little bit of a spreading issue, and then a lighting issue (not too much tbh, and nothing color blind settings couldnt fix, its a workaround sure, but whatever). But after this update, everyone will play Spirit because of how easy its gonna be to trace.

Scratch marks needed to be fixed for a long time. I see no issue with this as of right now.
6 -
Can't wait to run Lightweight and Lightfooted together even more now, I loved the combo before but with the scratch marks update I'm curious how this will go.
Overall the update to the scratch marks though were very needed because they were kind of broken and hard to track for the killers, also this is a Spirit buff, I will be playing her even more because of this!
0 -
With iron will back on the manu I would not care much if people play spirit.
0 -
several people already pointed out but scratch marks are meant to give away the survivors position, it's the way killer tracks survivors. you can't be leaving scratch marks all over the environment and expect to be stealthy because scratch marks are broken, because they are fixing them now.
9 -
And that's how it should be, I don't know any more boring games than games with all survivors hiding. It's just increadible boring to see your gens go down while you search for anyone, besides that I will tunnel more then because it's the only person I find xD
1 -
in my very limited experience as killed a high amount of scratch marks can also be quite misleading. So I don’t think this is the buff people think it is in that regard.
However, one thing I will say is that version of Gas Heaven he played on was way to light and had no shadows etc. I don’t think that should be affected by a filter.
0 -
They have been really inconstant for quite a while now lots of players have had trouble with them so they needed fixing
6 -
Well, I dont think you realize how good Predator Spirit was to fight against Iron Will. And now there will be a literal line tracing you if she uses it while before it would have looked slightly closer together than the current picture.
0 -
If this was a massive buff as stated, I have to ask why Predator wasn't equipt as much. It's basically what's happening to the Scratch Marks.
5 -
QOL bug fix.
7 -
The scratch marks have been bugged and getting worse over time, that this is necessary to return to normalcy. I currently wouldn't blame Killers from using these cringeworthy filters in the current version of the game. Once the scratch marks are fixed though, then any recorded gameplay showing these filters is a self report to being a pathetic sweatlord, and should be called out when seen.
That being said, I don't blame anyone with any form of color-blindness from using these, because I have tried the various color-blind options as scratch marks have been getting worse, and they simply aren't enough. Ideally, we will get full custom colors for objectives/auras, so that way we can set our own preference for Gens (instead of White/Red/Yellow only), and Survivors/Killers (instead of only the pinkish aura).
2 -
There are certain things in this game that no one should cry about. This is one of them.
7 -
Well tbf I think it's a case of use it or lose it. Most survivors don't even try to hide, they loop and deliberately get killer to chase them around as many loops as they can so others can do gens.
Clearly they are not using stealth in games so it doesn't make that much difference. I think they should encourage stealth and stop the scooby doo loops around a single pallet theme but it is what it is, just have to follow the scratch marks and tunnel them out.
2 -
Because you are simply wrong? Just don't run. Survivors that play Stealth know when to run and when to walk, and often mix the two up in ways to mislead the Killer. Clearer scratch marks actually make that easier.
12 -
I mean scratch marks have been getting worse and worse over the years especially so when they make map reworks like ormond or cold wind where scratch marks literally can barely be seen or so bright they blend in.
2 -
This video make a great gamemode for dbd, Grey and red color is kinda good ngl

Thankyou for this, while all the points about consistency, the degrade of scratch marks over the years, accessibility, etc are absolutely valid points....
I was still stuck on "In what universe do you run when you're playing stealthy?" 🤨🤨🤨🤨
5 -
What am I wrong about? I've played 6 years and have a good idea of how to use my scratch marks to bait the killer or misdirect.
I think it's disingenuous to say this isn't a buff as well as a bug fix. If killers got slowed down near hook and I told you just don't camp how would that go?
1 -
Also scratch marks have been broken/bugged for like at least half a year now. Idk if they fixed it lately or making them brighter is their way of fixing em.
6 -
Scratch marks have been broken for months, this is a good update
11 -
The scratchmarks needed to be adjusted. They have been harder to track for a long time now. It's more of a qol update than a buff, but it will help killers track better which will "buff" them so to speak. So I understand your point, but simply put the scratchmarks were never supposed to be as faded and inconsistent as they were, it was a bug. Taking out blights sliding bug was important, even though people considered it a "nerf" as well, but it was a bug that needed fixing. Same thing with the scratch marks.
1 -
I think it supposed to be fix. Scratch mark are sometimes inconsistent which is confusing and it can make you lose track of survivor if you can't see him/her. Obviously that should not happen.
1 -
Running at full speed isn't stealthy I hate to break it to you homie lmao
10 -
Scratch marks used to be a reliable way to track people and for some time now they have been broken to the point that you can be mid chase and they just literally vanish into thin air.
So calling a fix to something that's obviously been bugged & broken for ages a buff is hilarious.
