Better alternatives.
I see a lot of good and balanced perks however these perks don't get high usage.
I can see that the developers want players to use different perks for variety instead of seeing the same perk in five matches in a row by creating perks that focus on other objectives or perks that work with multiple other perks.
I do not object to this idea at all, on the contrary, I see it as in the interest of the game.
But there is one thing standing in the way of this goal: “better alternatives” , literally after every chapter or review of a perk the perks are good and balanced yet left in the forgotten hole because there are better alternatives.
I wouldn't be surprised if they nerf perks for more variety and the biggest example was self care as it was one of the most used perks and I wouldn't play a single matche without it before nerf.
I know there are weak perks and that needs another post.

The reason there's no variety in survivor perks, even though there's tons of other good ones, is because the 7-8 years meta is so much stronger than everything else. And even when new stuff gets brought in and gets nerfed, it's still ridiculous. Like, Buckle Up now gives a sprint burst to the person off the ground, and doesn't cause exhaustion.
The reason there's no variety in killer perks is the opposite. They legitimately don't know what to run, because everything is so weak, so they just use the least weak thing at their disposal. They hold onto the pipe dream that gen defence will always be good. No, gen defence is not good, none of it. You're better off running chase perks, endgame perks, and Rancor. So while it might seem like the majority of what you're facing is "Ugh, more gen defence," it doesn't do anything vs good survivors.

I don't think you can get away from that. But I think BHVR can make it worth people's while by incentivizing the use of the other perks. Give them a BP bonus or make a leaderboard for most wins while using a particular non-meta perk. People would eat that crap up. I would.

it's not that it's stronger, but that's pretty much what most of the community has agreed upon being tolerable and relatively the most healthy.
anything new they add is either way weaker to be even considered or is strong enough to make ppl immediately realize they prefer old meta over anything especially that and, usually, rightfully so.

How is buckle up ridiculous? you hit the survivor back to the floor. it is wildly situational.

I would say survivor's lack of perk variety shows up from perk functionality. once a specific set of class reaches perk functionality, nothing else compete with that perk functionality. Lots of the survivor perk have similar perk functionality but one perk is worse than other one.
killer perk variety is low because base game is poorly balanced. the killer perks barely feel like bonuses your selecting and instead feel like plaster fixes to play the game.

Idk I run chase perks and even when I end chases and get hooks in under a minute gens still fly by quicker than I can put pressure on them. A mix of passive gen defense and some chase (usually bamboozle) is what I find to help me more universally instead of on a per killer basis.
