it works in that whomever you block/ignore cannot contact you. If they’re on different platforms obviously that’s a completely useless feature as they can’t contact you anyway. But if you’re on the same platform it also doesn’t work because it cannot override your system’s settings (PS, Switch, Xbox only). So I guess it offers some sort of placebo to make you feel better.

Yeah I know which is why it's trash and they should think about retooling it so it's actually useful for not playing with people who take the game too seriously.

They don't want you to be able to choose who you match against. Yes, even if they're better than you and yes, even if they take the game more seriously than you.
8 -
And what if they are communicating abuse and targetting people in their gameplay? That's okay then?
1 -
Then they get banned from the game as a whole, since those things are against the rules.
2 -
I don't think this is always the case, it happens really often and not much is really done about it, there was a lot of reaction give or take 6 months ago, not so much now I'm finding.
Like I agree, but I should have some agency over people I'm comfortable playing with.3 -
I mean they generally get banned eventually if you report them properly (in-game + ticket). I've unfortunately had some run ins with some really nasty people, but I open a support ticket and then like a couple weeks later I get an in-game report notification that they got actioned.
Unfortunately people would use a block list to blacklist everyone who's better than them, or plays a killer they dislike etc. etc. It'd cook matchmaking as well since people who play sweaty/good will get blocked a lot, forcing them to get matched against less experienced players, and increasing queue times as a whole.
It sucks that it has to be this way, and I wish support was a bit faster (no shade to them, they do good work but they're swamped a lot of the time), but the feature that you suggest will more often than not be used to block people for reasons other than them being genuinely nasty towards others.

Like I'm sorry not everyone will use it that way, a system shouldn't be awful (beause the sh word is banned on a mature game forum ok…) because people don't like to play against certain people, it will make people happier. Maybe more people will be conditioned to PLAY the game and have FUN, and not try super hard with meta killers to win.
Let the community talk for once, it doesnt have to suck, its people who defend it and allow it who make it this way.
Be the change1 -
Its not a be the change moment, it literally used to work that way and was abused to the point where some better high end players just wouldn't get to play the game because they were too good at nurse or xyz so people blocked them
1 -
Honestly playing people who are overpowered and tunneling etc isn't fun so I dont blame people, it's deserved.

They need to have an actual block list, just make it limited so it's not abused. Have a max of like 5-10 people. Once it's full you need to start removing people if you want to add more. If someone finds themselves on so many block lists that it starts to affect their queue times then maybe that's a warranted consequence? I imagine it'd be mostly hackers finding themselves on block lists

Something like this would be perfect to bridge the gap until the mods deal with it or something
1 -
It doesn't support your point to celebrate people abusing a system for something its not intended for when you want it to get added to the game
2 -
I mean it makes the game more enjoyable for me, that's a plus in my books, it's not abuse if I have only so many slots and I use it on someone I don't like playing with its smart.
Same way said people "abuse" gameplay mechanics, your words not mine :)1 -
There are over 700,000 players in this game. I can’t really see a single player blocking enough people to seriously affect their opponent prospects. Other PvP games (some with fewer players) don’t have an issue with allowing players to block one another.
2 -
This would be abused so badly, terrible idea
2 -
You are aware people can block you for not playing in a way they find fun as well.
You're just asking for a system that causes everyone to have longer queue times.
1 -
Well the developers seem concerned enough about the affects it would have on matchmaking to write it off entirely, at least for now.
They also really didn't like MLGA back in the day once they added the feature to see the name of the killer you were up against.
Overwatch were really careful about their implementation of it, it was originally only 3 slots. They bumped it up to 10, but it only deprioritises matching with those avoided players, not outright blocks it. It should also be noted that it only prevented people from being on your team, not being matched AGAINST you.
OW is the only competitive game that I've seen implement something like this, and even then, they're extremely careful about how they do it, since it can heavily affect matchmaking, ESPECIALLY at the higher ranks where there are less players overall.
1 -
They already tried it in dbd and it didn't work, sure you could block "toxic" players so you don't need to see them again but the usage of the system didn't stop there because people abused it to block good killers for easier matches to the point where some good killers just couldn't play the game, at all.

If this is your mindset, youre part of the problem.
3 -
There was no such thing ever added into the game.
Closest we had was a third party software that allowed you to see the people you were up against in a lobby, which people would dodge against if they saw some one they didnt like.

Close enough

I'm pretty sure the in-game blocking only restricts or removes communications depending on the platform, but has no effort on matchmaking at all. And it would be so open to abuse if it did.
1 -
Exactly and I see no issue with that <3 I want to play with who I want to, and if people don't like me that's their choice.
Imagine players being so controlling in this community, they cannot allow players to avoid them because they know their habits are unhealthy. I just want to play my silly party horror game.
Oh might I also add how many people lobby shop to do the exact same thing in a worse way, yet how many of you defended that hm?
Let me see the killers name in the lobby, then we can agree.0 -
We don't agree at all. I feel like you would be better spent playing a game you actually enjoy instead of asking for hour long queues.
