How do I drop pallets?

Yes, I know, the question seems pretty stupid, but let me elaborate.
I'm tired of getting to a pallet mid-chase, pass it and press the Drop button like a maniac and 90% of the time only getting hit without dropping the damn thing.
Is there a specific way to do so? Maybe letting go of the Run button and press the Drop one in quick succession or something like that?

I'm a killer main and basically only play surv to farm BP and when there are friends to play, but the Alucard skin is so damn awesome and my love for Castlevania is so big that I've decided to become a better surv.
I don't expect to become an amazing surv since I'm 36 and my reflexes are not the same as some of the damn ninja kids I get as killer.

This question is not stupid at all! I'm a main survivor, I don't stop running to drop the pallet, my recommendarion to you is: chance the buttons to drop/actions buttons. This helped me! The style of the gameplay needs to be comfortable for you.

Fellow 36er. You can do a ton on survivor with game sense and check spots. There are some good guides on youtube about survivor check spots, and they'll honestly make you a better killer too. I tend to play safer in chase because like you said, not going to consistently win 50/50s against kids hopped up on Red Bulls.

As for dropping pallets, I'd double check your keybinds. If the keybinds are ok, it might be a timing issue. You don't have to let go of the run button. One tip: make sure your primary action button is separate from your secondary action button. They overlap by default on controller.

Play M1 killers to judge the distancie from which you will be hit, and choosing when to greed or drop depending on the state of the game.

Also you have increased dropping range when walking and NOT running, use it to pallet vacuum if you want a stun.

Lastly identify if the killer you are playing against is weaker against stuns or dropped pallets and act accordingly.

    Thanks for the tips guys!
-A friend once told me that you need to let go of the Run button. Will stop doing that ASAP!
-The buttons were one of the first things I fixed since in every game I play I see ALL the options available before starting and noticed two actions mapped to the same button, which makes me mad that we can't do the same as killer.
-Check spots is something I recently learned and it indeed make a huge difference.

I played A LOT of Skull Merchant in the anniversary to farm BP and it indeed gave me some new perspective about M1, like if a surv and a killer are each on one side of the pallet you can quickly lunge and the result of this "stand off" will be a hit for the killer in most occasions and in others they both will hit each other.

So what my friend said is indeed true. There's a difference between drop while standing and running. Pallet vacuum is indeed a thing then.

    Thanks for the tips. :)

If you watch Hens, JRM or Ayrun you see they also can't drop the pallets at random times. Or the killer hits you, gets teleported to your side and then gets stunned.

    It's simply a server issue.

Makes sense, but with me it happens so often that it has to be a skill issue XD.

Dropping pallets is a contextual action, so it helps to know the context. Two things that can be over looked:

You need to have the pallet in your field of view. You could be standing in the right place, but if the pallet isn't mostly visible in your screen, the prompt won't show up.

You can't drop a pallet if another player is already occupying the space under the pallet. This is why killers can bodyblock pallets, but it's also worth knowing that a killer who is in the process of lunging through the pallet can also occupy that space, in which case it's a matter of being too late in dropping the pallet in your part. This is the part that server latency can affect, but knowing that it's a possibility you can try to mitigate it by dropping pallets slightly earlier. It can take practice to learn the timing, and there's always the chance that latency is just too much to work with.

Not necessarily. You can also look for some clips/yt of Spitz who so happens to pretty much live right next to the Frankfurt servers, given is sub-15-ms-ping. The things he can do vs anyone not having that ping are pretty insane - especially if the killer has somewhat decent ping as well. The reverse is also true, though; if you have (some) ping and the killer does (and the frequency with which I get matched with killers on a different continent is…. baffling. There's a few people I know on NA servers and sometimes get them randomly as a killer and am like "#########?! - You VPN-ing cause it's the wrong time of day for Qs where you are?" "Nope." "bruh.") it's basically a coin flip if you get the drop first or the killer the hit - or both; where you drop (and sometimes even stun) the killer… while also getting hit and teleported to the other side of the pallet (or you know, on some side of the pallet)

Long story short: Once it comes down to being a reaction/timing issue it also always is a ping issue.

There is one thing that happens to me sometimes though; the "space" prompt around pallets is a bit weird and there are positions where it visually looks like you should be able to drop the pallet - but you don't actually have the prompt, so you can't. If that's what's getting you I'd recommend a) enabling an input tracker so you know exactly when you press spacebar and b) recording your screen at very high fps and then playing that moment back and check more or less frame by frame if you pressing spacebar and you having the prompt lines up.

@BurnedTerrormisu and @Halloulle pretty much explained it—it’s ping related. Basically when the killer is about to swing and you’re at the pallet, if you try to drop it while they’re engaging in the swing (as in reared back) the server is going to prioritize their hit—the swing is a part of the hit—via hit validation if their ping is higher than or equal to yours. If their ping is lower you will typically get the stun. It’s not you lacking the skill to time the stun, it’s that BHVR’s servers prioritize hits on the killer’s side.

I'll try to look into this input stuff and the angle that I look at the pallet for sure.
    Thanks for the tip! o/

I don't feel that bad now about missing a lot of these then. XD
    Thanks man.

In regards to why you'll want to let go of the run button: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC1T2x0jqCQ

release shift. people do a mini crouch before dropping, i assume that also works.
