legion used to be able to down survivors in feral frenzy after 4 hits. now he can't down survivors in feral frenzy directly and he has some rubbish movement speed with barely any duration to chain any hits. you don't see any drastic changes here? I'd say that is on par with haste and hindered changes. it is like removing major part of the kit. Spoiler alert, Legion was also one of killer to be constantly disconnected against in initial release just like Skull merchant. you should see similarity in said changes.
i do think skull merchant will get buffed over time like in 1 year and then maybe next year after that, but it will be gradual buff similar Legion. Keep in mind that Legion despite being buffed several times (around 3 times) is still worse then its original iteration. So take that for what you will.

Again, though, while you may believe Legion is worse off now, that change was at least addressing a real problem. There was, undeniably, a problem in the design of just being able to chase down the one survivor and cheese downs without any effort or counterplay.
Even if you don't like the solution, it was at least a solution aimed at the problem. These changes aren't trying to address any problems at all, they're just dismantling everything about her that isn't problematic while only doing very little to address the problems that do exist.
Legion's original rework was a lot like Skull Merchant's original rework: a response to real problems that had some growing pains. That is more common from BHVR. We saw that in Legion, we saw it in Freddy, we saw it in original Skull Merchant, we saw it in Sadako (though they reverted her, annoyingly), we even arguably saw it in Billy's Overheat to a small degree.
What we don't see often is what we're seeing here: A killer just being dismantled from the ground up while not actually having their issues addressed.

Legion didn't address problem either. the problem was that his feral frenzy has no counter-play and there is no counter-play to avoiding the hit. Instead of addressing this problem, they dismantled his kit. what we saw legion is same thing that we're seeing with skull merchant.
in any case, now that skull merchant is likely more bearable for snowman survivors, hopefully we have less disconnects vs the killer.

It should have never took so long to nerf this killer. My only complaint is her easy ability to enable undetectable. If she can still do that, it needs nerfing. The terror radius is basic game mechanics of the game (counterplay)

thank god, hopefully she gets an actual rework now that she is uselss

The removal of one scan line? Wouldn't that make it twice as hard for a drone to scan a survivor during chase? I thought that was the whole point of reworking them into that way. That's pretty excessive and I feel like sets a pretty bad prescedent that they can just completely ######### on a killer and leave them like that for a future rework.

Yes. And also, no more stealth drones. 90% of what made her strong was beginners that don't understand stealth drones giving her free scans. She's done for if this goes through. People can celebrate all they want, I don't think it's a good thing to make a character completely unviable and the least popular killer in the game. If they don't have any bigger changes in mind, literally all they needed to do was this:
- Drones are now always active
- 5% Hindered instead of 10% Hindered
- Only survivors within 32m of Skull Merchant grant her bonus movespeed
There you go, no longer scans noobs, no longer hinders pros so she can brain off win loops, and survivors no longer get punished by their teammates being locked on. That's all they needed to do. Not THIS.

This rework doesn't seem to be great. It's less a rework and more just a nerf. They changed the hindered and haste numbers, which were kind of nuts, so that's good. But I feel like the biggest problem with her drones is how spammable they are. If that wasn't an issue, I feel like people would find her less obnoxious to go against.

this isn’t supposed to be a rework, it’s tweaks leading up to a rework, but here is my prediction to what’s gonna happen
Nerfs hit skull merchant, kill rates plummet, they see this as an acceptable balance change
It happened with legion, I can almost guarantee it’s gonna happen with skull merchant1 -
These changes just make her worse. She's still gonna be annoying to go against. These changes don't fix that, sadly.

I feel like they're gonna HAVE TO rework her completely now which I feel like is a waste of time and resources? She's pretty okay in her current state but now they gotta rework her again when there's other killers more deserving of it like Freddy.

If they do choose to rework her entire power, they should change the way her base skin looks to or something drastic like that. New little teaser video, new music. I don't know. They would absolutely have to differentiate this new theoretical version from the old one. The current one just carries too much of a bad reputation.

I would agree. They’ll will have to roll some of this back.

What makes me mad about this is that she's being gutted by two reasons.
1-Lack of information in-game: her power never mentions the counter to drones (be still or walk crouching)
2-Survs being too lazy to go online and search for info on how to counter her, which would be a minor problem if the first didn't existed.0 -
Its a truly beautiful day for Dead by Daylight. Banished to F-tier until she can get a rework that makes her actually fun to play against.

Ill never understand why lockon stacks are permanent and dont have a falloff mechanic or interacting with a drone and successfully hacking you can lose a stack

Honestly don't even care, all the skull merchants I get are annoying ones that use Franklins Demise, Knock Out, Third Seal and Deerstalker, just slug you onto the floor until they've gotten everyone down and wait for the lobby to finish/everyone to die, or hook everyone after all survivors are down. I understand the fact some skull merchants do not play like this, and actually try and play the game normally showing their skill they've played with this killer. But when most people use this killer to engage in scummy playstyles against the survivors then it's less sympatric for a lot of people.
1 -
You are aware that this won't stop those kinds of players, right? They'll just move on to a different killer.
1 -
That's fine. It's skull merchant's kit that makes her so annoying when played by toxic players. She's an M1 killer who was getting free haste, free hindered, and just about every other status effect in a chase. No skill required to get easy downs. Knockout + drones all over the map + everything else about her make it a nightmare trying to pick up slugged survivors as well.
2 -
There isn't a single person that thinks skull merchant was fine without changes, even SM mains were begging for skull merchant changes, but this is just way to much, the nerfs are absolutely brutal and they got nothing in return. In almost every single nerf in recent years, it always came accompanied with a buff of some kind, but this is just a straight up nerf of a B tier killer that was annoying to go against, no buffs, just straight up nerfs.

Honestly, it makes me happy that she was overnerfed reading this post
even tho I agree she was overnerfed0 -
If the changes goes through like this she will be the weakest killer in the game, below trapper.
