I regret playing Freddy
...seriously out of all the killer's who need a rework I think Freddy is it. I will say this I miss old Freddy sure it was annoying to put every survivor to sleep to hit them but at least half his kit wasn't basically removed because a generator was complete the other thing he had built in aura reading. Overall BHVR please for the love of anything rework Freddy because I seriously think he needs some major TLC.

I don't miss old Freddy at all. You had to wait for people to fall asleep after you used your power to even hit them. Plus unhooks were super easy to do because Freddy couldn't down you again until you fell asleep again.

Yeah, Freddy is in a bad spot right now. He has been in a bad spot for the last five years.
First with a power that was unhealthy for the game, and then with a power that is both weak AND unhealthy for the game.
And don't get me wrong, you can still win with Freddy:
The matchmaking probably wasn't fair here, but even if it had been the problem is that you don't get to have fun while playing this killer, regardless if you win or lose.
But I have hope Freddy will get his dework at some point and we will get Old Freddy back! Finally we will have fun again!
You had to wait for people to fall asleep after you used your power to even hit them.
That isn't a bad thing though. Plenty of opportunities for easier hits with Dream Transition mindgames or Block add-ons.
Plus unhooks were super easy to do because Freddy couldn't down you again until you fell asleep again.
And that can easily be fixed by giving him the Incapacitated status effect during the Transition. The movement to bring back Old Freddy has always included a few QoL improvements to fix his issues.

What a waste. All these slots for much needed reworks will probably just be a revolving door of skull merchant, twins, knight, onryo..? Killers reaching their 3rd or 4th major reworks because their base design was so fundamentally broken, they have no time to fix completely outdated or butchered killers like nightmare

Yeah, he is in a really bad state.
I think that merging his old power with parts of the new one, plus adding some things like failed skill checks not waking you up, etc. would make him better again.
I really hope that BHVR will do good with his next rework.

Least thing i would want is to have to put people into some state before i can even hit them, it sounds horrible.
Least thing they could do is at least fix his snares.. They are bugged and inconsistend as hell. I was always a dream pallet freddy and stopped playing him all together when survivors became aware about predropping pallets.2 -
Take it from the voice of the Nightmare: it wasn't bad. The only problem was being unable to interrupt survivors during the Dream Transition, but that could easily be fixed by giving him the Incapacitated status effect.

By how fast gens get done it would nerf him into oblivion if he couldnt hit without them being in the dream world.

7 seconds of Dream Transition in exchange for an easier approach, an easier first hit, 50% action speed penalty and unlimited aura reading once outside his TR isn't a nerf. It is a buff, honestly.
Though, to be fair, almost anything would be a buff to current Freddy.

He has a lullaby which makes his stealth aspect null and void anyway. So i dont count that. And the 50% speed penalty was global during the whole trial? I guess yeah that would be a buff but this will likely never happen. Just look at the recent changes, its clear which side is favored.

Not to mention how you couldn't even flashlight save because to awake Survivors Freddy was invisible while carrying someone. While it was funny watching teammates be carried away by nothing trying to save them was such a chore. I think he was immune to pallet stuns unless he was stunned by a sleeping survivor.

But the lullaby isn't directional, and back then it used to play for awake survivors, not those who are asleep.
This is original description from his very first power, the one most Freddy mains want to return:
- -Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
- -Once targeted by The Nightmare's Power, Survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
- -During the Dream Transition they can see The Nightmare intermittently.
- -When the Dream Transition has elapsed, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
- -Survivors' Auras are revealed to The Nightmare whenever they are outside of his Terror Radius.
- -Survivors suffer an Action speed penalty of -50 %.
- -To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find other non-sleeping Survivors to perform a Wake-up action.
- -Failed Skill Checks can wake up the Survivor.
- -Getting hooked wakes up the Survivor.
And this, if I may share it, is my proposal for him:
-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.
-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.
-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.
-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.
-Failed Skill Checks can also wake up.
-Hooked Survivors wake up.
Special Ability: Dream Projection
-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.
-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.
“You have nothing to worry about. This won’t hurt one… little… bit.”-Freddy Krueger
If the 50% penalty is too much then I say we nerf it but keep his mobility. The Incapacitated status effect solves the problem of being unable to interrupt survivors and then he should be golden!

He wasn't.

Apologies. I can barely remember most of old Freddy's mechanics lol

I remember all of it.
My favorite killer, the very reason why I joined the Forums in the first place.

wow that sounds like a really boring killer concept, im glad they changed it.

When i use to swf freddy was one of the killers we could guarantee a win against every time poo fella

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, no killer is for everyone.

Oh i like current freddy despite him being rather weak. But its more down to generator speeds compared to his cooldowns and his add ons being lackluster.
But i wouldve probably never mained him if he was in his original state.1 -
I disagree completely, but that is okay. We had a respectful discussion :)
2 -
Its coming. Him and Mikey will be getting some love. I mean I hope its love they get and not another Twins type situation.

Freddy also had constant aura reading on any sleeping survivors so mind games rarely worked on him. Plus I'm pretty sure his swinging chains add on when paired with thanatophobia was pretty broken. If they want to give him his old power then they need to remove the passive sleep timer and remove or readjust his slowdown Add-ons so he isn't too oppressive. No one wants a repeat of Forever Freddy.

Only when outside his TR. To use it for mindgames you would have to run RPB + M&A, thus reducing his TR to zero when outside of a chase. But that is no different than Mirror Myers, except it is more fun.
Plus I'm pretty sure his swinging chains add on when paired with thanatophobia was pretty broken.
You're thinking of Jump Rope + Swing Chains from post-rework. Original Swing Chains slightly increased the action speed only after you were pulled into the Dream World for a second time. And if you miss a skill check the penalty is gone.
If they want to give him his old power then they need to remove the passive sleep timer.
I agree completely.

I too share your pain. I have mainly played Freddy over the past week and it's a very unique experience. With other killers I always feel like there is at least something I can do. With Freddy I'm too busy getting countered by myself.
1 -
Yup, I hope so too.

Since we're already talking about Freddy, does anyone want to offer up rework ideas?

Maybe this is a bit much but along with what you want, I feel like he should be able to near instantly teleport to his blood pools if someone steps in them. It’ll work similar to the Hags trap but maybe on a 60 second cooldown?
I’m really spitballing here. I just want him to have something fun, interesting and similar to what he can do in the movies like coming out of walls. Maybe he can have traps that sprout arms and latch onto Survivors, rooting them into place without injuring them?
I purchased him not long after Stranger Things because I was new and everyone said he was strong and easy to play. I found him unimaginative and boring. Haven’t touched him in over 4 years now.

I would love to:
I know I already shared my concept in one of the replies, but this thread has the complete version with add-ons, should you wish to read it :)

Sound like skill issues. I was able to do some work with him especially with insidious, monitor and abuse. He literally has outside aura range with being invisible to awake survivors. Nancy masterpiece with class photo was easy access to the Dreamland.

I can only dream to play this version of Freddy ;)

I feel like this ability, on top of everything that has been suggested, might be a bit too strong, my friend.
I mean, it is already a powerful kit. Adding something similar to Hag's ability, which is pretty powerful, might be a bit too much. Could be worth a test, though.

No one can blame you for not wanting to play him. I took him all the way to P100 and not a single one of those games were as fun as they should have been. As they would have if we still had OG Freddy.
I'm confident you will play him someday, my friend.

I thought so too, in regard to the teleport pools. But I think I got something with the arms coming out of the ground. It could just be another trap that he can cycle through like Vecna does with his powers.
He could set a transparent rectangle on a floor or wall and when a Survivor triggers it, hands come out and latch on to them. They don’t have to root them in place immediately. They could pull on to them until the Survivor succeeds at like 5 merciless storm skill checks that pop up in different spots on the screen. If they fail, they get stuck for 20 seconds or until a teammate gets them out.
Probably too strong but I want more movie references and I want him A tier!
