Some words about skimpy\revealing outfits for female characters in DBD:
To me - DBD doesn't seem like it's "gooner baiting" with any of the skins come up. (Have you seen upcoming skin for Sable presented in the live-stream? Shheeesssh!)
I think DBD's developers are in the perfect "golden middle" when it comes to "skimpy skins" and "not skimpy". It's really bad if your game have only revealing outfits for male\female characters + bad, buggy, unengaging and boring content. (Actual coomer-bait games).
I think DBD captivating it's player by unique asymmetric gameplay, cheap cash-shop and licensed characters instead of "gooner\coomer content".
I mean, that's how I got into DBD… Not because of summer skins for female survivors… (I'm not lying, I swear…)

I mean I think DBD is pretty equal in its presentation of "hot" skins. Have you seen Felix's abs?

I could do with more sexy skins for the girls. The game feels a bit too safe with its cosmetics, especially for a mature game, and I'm so envious that Killer Klowns is getting a buxom Elvira, like damn. But sexy doesn't have to be skimpy, and it's much better to be classy or cute than garish (not talking about Elvira here, she's a goddamn legend/icon/goddess). I'd also like more sexy skins for the guys (which to me would actually be some nice tailored 3-piece suits with bedhead hair, or some cosmetics that look like they're straight out of Bloodborne or Tokyo Ghoul, because those kinds of outfits are way sexier than shirtless in my book).
A lot of the DbD skins feel kind of frumpy to me. Even the ones where skin is shown… they're things I choose because they're better than the alternatives in-game, but those swimsuits for example are not what I'd choose in real life. Good fashion is about flattering the figure, and many DbD cosmetics skip that part. (Not all, but many.)
I'd also like to see more cute cosmetics in-game. I love cute. Everyone loves cute. Personally, I'm disappointed the upcoming Mikaela cat costume isn't cute (neither cute nor sexy, it feels completely visually uninteresting when I look at it). If cute can work on Clown (Mr. Puddles), then it can work on anyone.

Excluding Spirit I'd actually say DBD doesn't have all that many skimpy skins. There's some sexy skins here and there but not really all that many overly skimpy ones.
I actually think it's interesting DBD doesn't do more sexy outfits. Right now the most we get is some panty shots with the skirts, a few shirtless male skins and the occasional sorta swimsuit.DBD is very tame when it comes to that sort of stuff IMO.

i think dbd has variety of all different types of skins BUT skimpy skins are highly like…. how should i say? emphasized… popular put out in spotlight more than other skins.
3 -
Seriously, if I never had to learn what "gooner" meant it still would have been too soon. I am Gen X, but I feel more like a boomer now, telling the darn kids to get off my lawn.
4 -
I mean it's by the same people that gave us Hooked on You…We all know as educated consumers that sex sells.
8 -
Just like in any other game. Because most games are played MOSTLY by guys.
And by the nature… Guys want to look at what? Good looking girls… But it doesn't mean the game should have MOSTLY revealing or sexy outfits.
That's why I'm telling that DBD developers are doing a good work in this regard. They have a "golden middle" when it comes to sexy and not so sexy outfits\skins.

Yeah, I really don't think the devs need to pay any mind to the people who can't handle seeing someone in a crop top. Let them seethe in a corner by themselves

This is exactly why I'm surprised they don't lean into doing more of them. What they do have you see around quite a bit. Shirtless David, Vittorio and Renato are all fairly common, the bra cosmetic from Sable, the yellow shorts for Thalita, the hooked on you huntress/spirit skins.
I'm honestly surprised they don't do more sexy outfits considering how good they must sell.4 -
The men of culture. I bow.

well given that i play decent amount of killer… you get to see the most common/popular survivor outfits. I only play Nancy so i don't care for cosmetics. Ada has my favourite perk image in the game, Wiretap but forum hasn't updated icons to change Ada's portrait into wiretap portrait.

Release a swimsuit series and I'd be all over it like suntan lotion on a towel.
3 -
They did, didn't they?
When the summer comes again - I hope for the swimsuit skins for survivors (or even killers) which are doesn't have one.

They shouldn't have nerfed Pyramid heads butt though when they show off every other females butt in this game. lol
10 -
I think I saw some topless models for guys and maybe some shorts type stuff too. I wanted something for Jane and maybe even Haddie. Thick girls go to the beach too. I've seen them.
2 -
They nerf Pyramid head's butt, yet Demogorgon is straight up naked >:p

FOOO Real.

You know that one cosmetic Sable has? You know which one I am talking about.
Well, take it and give it to Claudette.
5 -
I mean, skimpy/revealing outfits is a pretty typical thing for characters in horror to have, especially in slasher horror movies like Friday the 13th.
So to me they fit being in the game.

Truly one of DBD's greatest tragedies…

I remember when Nea was one of, if not the most popular female survivor even back when she was a butch lesbian. She felt like an average, real person.
I miss the old Nea :(

I just want normal clothes worn by normal people. I'm tired of all this fashion model stuff. Most cosmetics are overly-detailed nowadays.
3 -
David's bare chest is amazing 😍
1 -
I’m glad they’ve never shy’d away from more risqué looking cosmetics because it would honestly be strange if the game was more pg13 in those regards
1 -
I am fine with more skimpy outfits... as long as it is community agreed to ensure the skimpy outfit crew must die every game, and the cardigan crowd must escape.
This is a horror game. All sexy people must die, unless they are unintentionally sexy, or named Nancy.
I don't make the rules.
7 -
i agree Nude skins for all
6 -
But Spirit is horror first, she's practically a rotting corpse, which her design shows by making sure she looks like a rotting corpse (her pale dead skin, her exposed meat, open wounds)
1 -
The beach collection is there, but it's also a little skewed with regard to certain body types in terms of skimpiness.
I generally don't care one way or the other, but if you're gonna make revealing outfits, you gotta do it for everyone (Jane, Haddie, Jeff, etc. too).
LOTS of 3/4 naked Sables and Kates running around out there, gotta be consistent otherwise it seems a little body shame-y.
It might not be in line with their characters in some cases, but how many of these outfits make any sense at all in the context of the game?
1 -
Put a thong on Jane and there will suddenly be a whole lot of Jane mains.
And killers letting chase go on just a bit longer with them than necessary. Jane stocks would be waaaay up.
2 -
Yeah, they generally have something for everyone and every preferance. I think overall their cosmetics are quite tame. I was so confused when a bunch of people lost their minds over Sable's Waterfront Massacre bikini lol I wish I had so little problems in life that I could concern myself with what a fictional character was wearing

exactly if you give her a sexy cosmetic, the Jane player base will rise, hell I play currently her with her most revealing outfits

ClaudetteJane!3 -
The true greatest tragedy of all is Huntress’s HOY skin being nerfed from a J Cup down to a B cup and adding a weird black bra to cover non existent side bewb.
4 -
But they massively censored Huntress’s HoY skin so it can’t be considered skimpy or even remotely revealing at all.
4 -
Also, ever thought about why are they censoring stuff in a 18+ game?
Hell, I've seen some 16+ games just going full on micro-bikini with 0 censoring.
I know about China and some of their restrictions… But man…
3 -
Speaking of HoY... Where are the Trapper and Wraith cosmetics? How am I meant to function without disco ball jockstrap Trapper in dbd??
1 -
She still is a butch lesbian in my heart 😔
4 -
The stuff kinda bothers me a little to be completely honest. I understand that every game will have a portion of the playerbase that's….the way that they are, but it feels weird for the devs to feed into it a bit in a game about serial killers hunting people down and violently executing them and a never-ending game of violence.
Part of the reason I like horror so much is for the horror of it. The creepy atmosphere, the violence, the hulking figures, creepy warped bodies and twisted amalgamations of flesh. Seeing people run around shirtless, or in bikinis and microskirts, or heck, glowing fox tails, it really detracts from that atmosphere.
It also perplexes me how people get all hot over people that would literally kill them for fun without a second thought.
3 -
I really can’t think of an actual reason why they censored it. Jane Romero has a big chest with several skins that show a LOT of cleavage. Sable Ward just got a skin that shows side boob. Skully and Spirt show literal CHEEKS and cleavage. Somebody went out of their way to censor her specifically for some reason.
5 -
I get what you're saying, and I used to feel bothered by how out of context some of these things are, but that ship sailed years ago. I learned that this game isn't to be taken seriously.
Sex and violence sell. And let's be honest, horror movies historically have been pretty loaded with sex and skin. Eros and Thantos and all that. And really, BHVR could go quite a bit further with it and it would still be pretty tame by industry standards. At this point it'd have to pretty much go full on DoA before it put me off.
As for people getting hot over killers, that is also nothing new. People have been getting hot and bothered over serial killers for ages. I think some people get off on being on the wrong side of a power dynamic, so long as there's no actual real world danger in it. It's not my thing personally, but there is a demographic that is into that.
11 -
I don't think they censored her per se, I think they just didn't completely remake her frame for the DBD Skin. Yes, in Hooked on You all the killers had larger breasts but that was the cartoon aesthetic of the game. One could say they censored Spirit too at that point, but again they didn't. They just didn't completely remake her frame to have larger breasts like the cartoon Hooked on You version.

Men are generally down bad but the amount of Women that want to bang the male serial killers like Myers, Ghostface, Jason Voorhees is…. Concerning
2 -
We get sexy revealing outfit for males and quite a bit, not gonna complain for once, it's not completely female sided for once. Only model wise I think the female shapes are meant to be more attractive than the male ones
0 -
Incorrect. It's has always been a Slash Horror trope stereotype that sexy revealing clothing, and promiscuity gets a Serial Slasher's attention. Marking them for death. And the modest final girl escapes.
This IS a Horror genre game. ( Not that any survivor in-game always has a Tommy Jervis disposition)
2 -
NGL I think part of it is BHVR knows their playerbase skews under 18+ so they would never do anything that wasn't actually PG13.

I couldn't add anything to your comment, you kinda nailed it. I myself sometimes roll my eyes at some of the overtly skimpy outfits in other games, but DBD in contrast is very safe. I myself am also more of a cutesy outfits guy, but while you shouldn't overdo it with cute outfits, or the game will start to look like Fortnight, a couple more probably won't hurt, especially if its kinda in character and not just some bait.
I haven't seen that Mikaela outfit yet, but if your assessment is right, thats a sad waste of a good opportunity.
1 -
You can see the Mikaela outfit here, if you want:
It's the "TRICKS AND TREATS" collection.
I like the top, but the gloves are huge and strange. Her face paint is off-putting, more like something out of a discount rendition of Cats than what a cute young lady would do for Halloween. I'm not surprised: I almost never like what the devs do for makeup. The cosmetics go overboard, overwhelming the face instead of using soft makeup to accentuate features. Much of the makeup in DbD is garish, at least in my opinion.
while you shouldn't overdo it with cute outfits, or the game will start to look like Fortnight, a couple more probably won't hurt, especially if its kinda in character and not just some bait.
Oh, definitely, overdoing it would be bad. But it'd be nice if they did a little more. Plus, cute doesn't need to be overt. BHVR could do touches here and there and it could go a long way. In my opinion, they release a lot of very dull outfits with nothing that catches the eye. (Or the outfits have too many details that all compete for attention without cohesion, balance, or a truly interesting element.)
I myself sometimes roll my eyes at some of the overtly skimpy outfits in other games
I play DOA games. After the Venus swimsuit, nothing fazes me lol.

Thanks for the link!
Huh … thats really a strange and awkward choice; like you said, it looks like she is doing a Cats cosplay, not going for a catgirl look, and its somehow not working in any capacity.
Sables hair though is fire. Literally!

Maybe it's my age showing (I'm an older Millennial) but horror and sex are an iconic duo. Maybe it's different in modern horror, but the classics that kicked off the genre were all about that. Not sure if you've seen the movie Cabin in the Woods but it perfectly encapsulated the standard horror tropes of the virgin, the "#########," the jock, the nerd, etc. They all followed a formula, nudity was a common feature, and it wouldn't be a Friday the 13th movie without someone being chased in a bikini or killed while being intimate. The glowing fox tail, yeah I'll give you that one.
