can you avoid head on?

pretty much the title, i often approach the locker from the side and get the grab but i'm not sure if that's because i'm actually avoiding exposing myself or the surv is just missing their window

is there actually a way to get a head on surv out of the locker without giving them a window to stun, or am i just facing skill issue survs when this happens?
