Events vs. community, what's the point?

Haunted by Daylight 2024 literally just started and you can already see posts on various socials and even here complaining about event being "unfun". Why unfun you might ask? Because there has to be that one lil strawman to be pulled when event isn't 100% shifted towards the side of players complaining balance wise, like you can see in this event too.

Last year Halloween event was considered fun by many survivor players because well...killers weren't able to use powers inside void, meaning screw quite a lot of killers, but mostly 4.4 killers, Nurse and killers with limited powers, like Oni. Void was and still is a literal vacuum for pressure but somehow, this year's event is considered unfun because...survivors are exhausted and broken when injured while inside the void? Like seriously?

Morale of the story, BHVR should just stop releasing events in general when community is this much ungrateful and petty.

except for easy 2-taps with haunts, nothing else gives killer incentive to play this event mode. Entering the void as killer is a lose-lose situation because you not only lose all the map pressure because you are completely isolated from the rest of the map, but also have strong loops inside the very void.

party games are the ones that are almost exclusively played in custom isolated lobbies, dbd isn't a party game + the very nature of DbD being a pvp game makes it competitive. I have nothing against people playing to win, i hate it when people want events and regular game to gift them free wins while handicapping opponents as much as possible

even though i'm stating my objective point during this event, i am also fairly goofing off, bringing Agi only with event offering, getting 8 hooks and then acting like some magician in the void while transferring the energy😄

i wouldn't have problem if it was constructive criticism, but all i see is people acting like event is only fun when it's completely unbalanced towards the side they play

Because last year it was so "fun" to be able to get into the Void to get free escape in the middle of a chase, especially when the portal closed right after you got inside. Where were all the complaints back then when only one side could make use of the event? In the current event there is a gimmick for each side, the Void is to enter and pick it up, that's all and that's how it should be. Exactly the same as collecting the invitation during the anniversary event.

I understand your point, but is it really the community's fault? It is BHVR that fails to balance things fairly. There is always one side that is being overtuned- like last year survivors were the stronger ones, so the killer got overbuffed this year, and that just has to be called out

only actually dumb thing that is on killer side in this event are haunts, but they serve only as some kind of antiloop and for 2-taps (and imho they should have a cooldown between using your attack on survivor and them) but everything else is on completely opposite side, since whole void realm just cancels the most important thing killer should do, your map pressure capabilities.

There is truly little to 0 incentive for me to enter the void as the killer, BPs rewards are poor at the end, people freely do gens while i'm in the void and that's about it.

And even with all of that, i just go for goofing off in the mode

But this one goes for both sides: Relax, and try to goof off a little more, instead of the constant tunneling/genrushing that is going on inside the event. Go out there and smash some pumpkins instead!

that's what i'm doing, Agi only + event offering + pumpkin smashing. Going for 8 hooks and then nodding to everyone to goof off in the void

Same here. I go for my 8 hooks, and then I just goof off with the survivors, and farming with them

Agreed with the people who say to just relax and enjoy it! Here's my opinion:

These events are way more fun if you just go kick some pumpkins and throw a smoke bomb on the hatch before you jump in!

And it's a celebration, so try to make sure all five players have a good time! So killers: try to give your survivors a decent match, but also let them have some fun. And survivors: interact with your killers, do gens for your team, do saves and stuff, don't take it too seriously, and get creative with your smoke bomb gem things! Celebrate the season! (Also don't take it too personally if the other side does their goal ;)

    Edit: spelling

Don't mind the instant complaints - it was always like that on my memory. :D

A fairly pointed criticism is never a bad thing - it something that MUST be said in order for developers to see and make a better changes in the future.

Have you seen how they improved this event compared to previous one in 2023? I'm glad people had complaints.

This is what happens when devs ignore the majority of players' playstyles and pretend this game doesn't need a proper ranking mode. This is the sweatiest game I've ever played, even more so than any other game with an actual competitive mode.

I'm playing the event for the BP bonus but I'm not interacting with any of the event stuff for the most part, don't really care for any of it

void as a whole is a mechanic that completely dumps killer's map pressure, and only haunts are busted for killer, but the whole mode was intentionally put as a separate quite primarily so that players from both sides enjoy it as a way to goof of (jokes on you so many complaints about specifically balance literally tell you people really wanna tryhard in this mode too)

i have countless arguments to disprove your statement, but this thread is not the place for those since it has nothing to do with the actual topic

While there is a lot of complaining that can be heard on all socials, theyre just a very vocal minority at the end of the day.

Doesnt mean their opinion is invalid, just means that there are more than likely a lot more people that enjoy the event that just simply arent vocal since they tend to stay away from social media (myself included, ######### twitter)

Except that absolutely noone said anything like that. Youre just making up something without any arguments.

yeah, nobody complained about this year's Halloween event, nobody complained about Winter event when Snowmen couldn't give you free health state anymore, i made it all up, sure

literally nothing to gain as survivor?

    1. entering the void as the killer leads you into a big disadvantage while survivors have free time to do gens.
    2. Smoke bombs are really a good tool to screw up the killer in chase
    3. Having your scratch marks removed literally gives you upper hand against killer

Killer has one advantage: haunts, and they serve as an antiloop tool and i admit that one is dumb since you can easily 2-tap if you time releasing the haunt well.

Personally, i don't care that i waste my time in the void since i'm playing exclusively for event objectives, but thinking survivors have nothing during this event is extreme exaggeration.

survivors play exactly the same, and it's a never-ending circle.

My goal most of the time is something like 10 hooks: a little bit Lethality, but not sweating too much. I must say, I really like the Voidbombs, they add a certain chaotic quality to the game that I haven't seen … since Chaos Shuffle ^^""" But you probably get what I mean, many matches of "normal" DBD are quite predictable to a certain degree, with much of the same being played, but the Void Bombs … Chefs KIss! They can help a lot, but survivors ain't immune to its effect either, and I have at one time weaved my way through a shrouded Jungle Gym with a survivor on my shoulder and found the hook by sheer dumb luck and determination :D

At other times I have run ineffective against walls and stuck there for the whole duration.

EDIT: BTW, how exactly do the killer haunts work? Do they fly for a certain distance and then slash? And if they just zoom by they make the survivors scream? Or will they colide with obstacles and slash? I really have no idea how they work and how some killers can reliably two-tap survivors with them and their M1 attack ^^

I'm not convinced. You're broken and exhausted in the void, and that's it. Any advantages the killer got with event abilities, survivors have enough tools to counter those anyway. And you're complaining about aura reading. What's wrong with it? The fact that the killer can find you? Is that the determining factor whether you live or die, the killer simply finding you?

Because they play for "fun" and "new/exciting content," except when they don't have massive advantage, which this mode apparently challenges. I'm sure those cute little killer abilities just turn Myers and Ghost Face from C tier to S real quick. That's the impression these survivor mains are giving.

They are petty. What they must do, to have this kind of reaction all the time, is say, "What angle can we view this new update/mode from, to where it appears killer-sided?" Because it seems like every time killer gets a bone, everybody loses their minds. But DS and Dead Hard being meta since their release over 6 years ago? Nah, that's fine.

I'm not the one to hide away like some urban evading Blendette in a bush, if that is what you are thinking. But hiding near a gen, waiting for the killer to leave, so that I can put more pressure on them. Thanks to the over-abundance of killers running Nowhere to Hide these days, this strategy is too easily countered.

Really makes me miss the old days where you could almost hide in plain sight 🙃
So many funny moments were made back then

To be fair on the Nurse/Blight players. I have been on the receiving end of too many tunneling + slugging Nemesis players recently - Like 60-70% of my survivor games has been nothing but Nemesis.
    And surprisingly, Pinheads too.

These are the kinds who are really souring the event for me, whenever I play survivor.
More often then not, these come from the Epic Games launcher (which I wished to God that you could turn off the cross-play for that platform) - Speaking of which, apparently you can not turn off cross-play on the Steam version of the game, at least I was unable to do that last time I tried.

As killer, I tend to get much less sweaty opponents, and I often end up having fun and goofing off with them in the end.
I think I have had two matches (out of at least 25) that had a really good survivor team put up against me.
I often see survivors give up or DC though. It really should not be necessary to do in the event, as it only makes the game 100 times harder for the remaining survivors.

gonna be honest I’m just not a fan of having to interact with the void thing I didn’t play the game last October but it just feels like I’m throwing the game when I’m running around there

Nah cuz you can use the portals to get to the other side of the map. you can also appear next to gens on some of the portal spawns, so after a hook you have stolen the survivors event progress then you get your ghost that allows any killer to have a range down and back out, it takes survivors 1.25 seconds to enter and killer .2 seconds so in no way are you losing pressure

  • NarkoTri1er
    NarkoTri1er Member Posts: 659

i already managed to clutch some matches thanks to portals as survivor, you just realize where each portal takes you and you can actually use it to your advantage lol neither portals nor smoke bombs are nearly as useless as people present them to be, especially smoke bombs
