VPN Usage and Ping
I have noticed something in this event, and I am wondering if I am the only one.
I have played multiple matches tonight with killers who have public steam profiles in either European or Asian languages (tonight it has been French / German and Japanese), and are playing on my East Coast US servers…. usually with 300+ ping. Against most killers, this make the game almost unplayable, especially as a solo survivor. Hits around corners, getting pulled backwards into an M2 grab, getting hit after being completely through a window….
This game is almost uniquely susceptible to ping issues on both sides. Be that a survivor "lagging out" and then rubber banding backwards behind the killer, or a Killer just having a bad internet connection.
My question I guess really comes down to 1) Is anyone else noticing this, or am I getting exceptionally unlucky? and 2) How is this not use of prohibited 3rd party software to gain an advantage?
It is one thing, in my opinion, when you are using a VPN to protect yourself, and are VPN'ing into the same country. If someone normally plays on, say, US West servers, and suddenly is showing up in Europe 5 minutes later with a 400 ping…. how is that not just an automatic disconnect for that player? In a game where ping has such an oversized impact on how things play out, I find it more and more frustrating in solo q to be playing against folks for whom I just cannot ever win. I fast vault the window, and I watch a second later as I am fully through, they hit the empty window, and I go down as if I was still vaulting it. Then the killer looks all shocked that I am suddenly 3 meters forward on their screen.
I don't know what the point of making this post is. I have just had a bunch of games tonight like this, and I am frustrated. I am sitting in these lobbies with 30 ping, the highest ones on my team are in the 60's, and I look at the ping for the killer in the escape screen, see the 300+ ping and just know what is going to happen. 30 seconds later, the kate is giving up on hook, then the dwight DC's, and then the Feng is hiding in a locker. Then I get chased, and 20 seconds in get hit THROUGH a wall by an M1, and I realize why people just DC'd / Gave up: There is no point in playing out the match.
I just got out of that very game with a Doctor, and this dude hits me through a wall…. then nods at me. Get out into lobby, and huge shock…. anonymous mode and on steam.
I hit the report button, but we all know that does nothing. Okay, done ranting, I look forward to this being dropped into the bucket of posts that will never see any real traction, or real feedback, but hey at least I posted here instead of randomly complaining on Reddit.

The ping problem is so massive, the DBD subreddit mods are deleting all ping / hit related posts.
But since even BHVR employes showcased this hits around the corner in the 2vs8 gameplay footage, i don't think they will or can do anything.

Yea i've noticed it a bit on huntress hatchets doing the blood splash animation and hit noise but not damaging survivors.

Yeah, what sucks is that it isn't even like the normal hitbox linger…. I am used to that. This is so crazy bad, and directly attributable to people who sometimes have 1k+ ping. Had a killer a few nights ago that was spiking over a 2000ms ping. It was so bad that at one point, he tried to pick me up…. and it teleported me probably 30 meters, before it teleported me back to where I was. It was the craziest example of this I had ever seen. Look at his steam profile: Australia…. and probably like DSL there at that.
Yeah, I have run into that in a couple of matches with Freddy oddly enough. I will get the splash and hear the sound, but they aren't injured.
This might be the only "competitive" game that doesn't just remove you from a lobby if your ping is too high.
