Why doesn't reassurance work in the basement?
I've been running reassurance since release, I love that perk since it punishes a boring playstyle and encourages killers to leave the hook to go for chases. I just played a game where a Bubba was only camping basement, far enough for anti-camp not to trigger but close enough to down you before getting downstairs. Luckily my soloq team was smart enough to ignore the camped guy and pump gens in order to escape, but we almost lost due to deadlock slowing down the gen progress. Since the basement is the most camped hook in the game and reassurance is an anti-camping perk, why doesn't it work from above on those hooks? I really see no reason

I think it should 'work from above on those hooks'.
The thing is you can't see on your screen the range of the reassurance effect in the same way as you see the effective zone of the flame thrower (2D range) of the Xeno or the EMP range of the Singularity (3D range).
Some basements like the Haddonfield's basement in the main building (or the Gideon Meat's Plant basement in the corner of the map) are very far away from the ground in comparaison to the basement below the Killer's shack. Sometimes you have to go down a bit like some few stairs down in the basement to correctly apply your reassurance effect on the camped survivor.
There is no logic to this place: basements aren't a fair place and often theassociated mechanics/physics aren't logic neither.3 -
I presume, that it would become too strong on maps like Gideon or Midwich. I do think reassurance is in a very good sport right now. Especially with hooks now lasting 70s without reassurance being touched at all.
The real problem in this scenario is more deadlock than reassurance if you ask me. A perk that gives guaranteed value for literally 0 effort.

Camping works on those maps. You can stand at the top of the steps preventing people from going down and this won’t trigger the anti-face camp meter. Weird double standard that it works for camping but not reassurance (even though I don’t really think it matters)

It's actually hard coded differently in the basement, at least it used to be. I haven't run reassurance since it released because it didn't really solve the issues after the meet from ptb (which is why they ended up adding AFC later).
Reassurance didn't work even on the stairs next to the hooks, you had to be all the way at the bottom, in the basement. You're definitely within the 6m range on the stairs through the wall, so there's something else going on that prevents it from working in the basement than just the listed range.

From someone who always run reassurance, every single game since ptb, it never worked that way in basement, it was always range

Why do you think anti camp doesnt work through floors?
Edit: this basicly comes down to Midwich and Gideon.

You're closer in the middle of the basement stairs to the hook than on the landing turn near the bottom, that's just how radius works. But reassurance doesn't work on the stairs, and does at the landing. Reassurance also works through floors on maps like Midwich, so it's not a verticality issue.
The only reason it wouldn't work on the stairs is either a bug or they specifically disabled it until you're fully in the basement.
Given that it doesn't work standing directly above the basement hook, I'm inclined to say it's not a bug, but it's intentional.

idk why they would intentionally limit the perk in such an absurd way. it's an anticamp perk and doesn't work on camp fest hooks?
i'm not a reassurance pro but i'd assume it just needs like 1 or 2 meters buff to its range so it can reach from above.

If it's intentional, the only things I can think of is they cannot make it work on the stairs, or they wish to keep the basement area super dangerous to be hooked at.

Through floors? I said at the top of the basement steps.

Oh, so we are at the basement still? Thought this was about double floor maps in general. With the basement, im completely with you. Both reassurance shouldnt and anti camp should work.
This however is hard to implement i can imagine due to being unhealty for maps like Midwich and Gideon. Guess there needs to be special programming for the basement.

This wouldn't even necessarily be true because it'd be incredibly simple to change how the hitbox for Reassurance is shaped to just be box shaped instead of sphere shaped and just make it have a set width and height. (Meaning you'd still have to run just as close to the hook to trigger Reassurance on those maps, only difference would be it actually reaches basement now)

You know how hard it can be to implement simple solutions these days?

Interesting, it would be a very simple point to point vector comparison, hence why it works through floors.
I always assumed the 6m difference was specifically chosen as it was too far for basement, and otherwise never thought about it...
However now you've said it, there is no way the distance is too far.... it myat be hard coded to not work until you are actually inside basement, same logic I guess as Strength in Shadows...
This also implies BHVR has a property for hook type as well, of which basement is one of them... and this is different to Scourge Hook property. Neat.

I really wouldn't care if the perks ranged was doubled don't bloody know why you have to be so close to activate it.
Also if they can buff time to be on hook we can buff the time it lasts for

The basement is always located in the main or in the shack, that is the strongest places for survivors, so it is high risk high reward

There is only one way out of basement. You can't run opposite side of the killer, Survivor gets unhooked, huntress throws hatchet/draculahellfire/deathslinger shoots/nemesis whip/bubba chainsaws/pyramid head torments/trickster knives/pinhead original pins/artist crows/vecna throws damn to them to shred through the endurance and then the option is either stay in basement or run to them without endurance. What's the risk?
1 -
The fact is that the basement is always located under a strong structure for survivors, so you can spend a lot of killer time, but you will be in great danger if you fail
0 -
That isn’t a risk for the killer. If they hit the survivor in basement who was just unhooked they’ll get them again before they can run the tile/structure. The basement is the most dangerous place for survivors for a reason.
2 -
Because killers need to camp to win
2 -
It really should. It should also be able to be used once per stage, not merely once per hook instance (you currently can't use Reassurance again if a survivor transitions stages on hook). I don't think it's a range issue, but if it is, increasing its range to 8 or even 10m such that it reaches into basement would be a perfectly adequate buff.

I don't think you should be able to stick you hand through walls or floors to give the survivor on the hook a thumbs up, especially in a place where killers should get an advantage for hooking the survivor there
1 -
As someone else has said, not a range issue on "regular" basements but hard-coded last I was aware. Given that you still have to go directly above the basement and killers can proxy that spot fine, there is no reason it shouldn't work. @bjorksnas mentions killers should get an advantage for hooking there - they do, it is still a super easy spot to camp where unhooked survivors can be bodyblocked and they have to run a long way out.
