Can we discuss having a "Give up" button?

As a killer main the only way to end a match currently is either kill everyone, all gens get done or I disconnect (with penalty to me)
Now most games are fine. the game is 15 minutes max and ends with either me losing or me winning.

Some games however are not fine. I went against a 4 man squad who were basically just abusing deep wound mechanics to stay alive whilst never even trying to do a generator. Even when i showed i don't want any part and let them just do gens they still insisted on not doing gens and progressing the game. This game lasted 25+ minutes and only ended because eventually they bled out.

On the flip side as a survivor the equivalent is being slugged constantly because the killer just wants to bleed survivors out for the 4k rather than ever hooking.

The "Give Up" button would solve these types of matches. Now before anyone sais that this would be abused it would of course have requirements to be able to use it.
Off the top of my head these are the following requirements I would want to put in place for it to be used

Killer

Match has been going for a minimum of 10 minutes with 0 - 3 hooks total

Or match has been going for 5 minutes with 0 gens complete

This then covers teams that just don't want to do gens and "meme with" or "bully" the killer and games where the killer is just blatantly out skilled.

Survivors

You have been on the floor for half/third of your bleed out timer (either in one go or over the course of multiple downs) as this shows that the killer intends to not pick you up and hook you.

As a punishment for giving up i would say you receive nothing from that game in terms of blood points or tome progress so that it can't be abused for just doing tome and leaving

This is more for killers than survivors as survivors already have a way to get out of a match being give up on hook but i want to know in seriousness what others think and if this could be something that is viable.

How about we focus on changing ways matches work so people cant quickly go next as survivors instead of making the other kind of lost matches into immediate go next scenario

There should only be a give up button when there are only hooked survivors and a slugged person.

Played two games so far today and both times I've been slugged for the killer to find the last person, they get hooked and just stay on the hook hitting skill checks. Both times just waiting forever just for that person to eventually die on hook so they can use the free mori. Just a pointless waste of time. Can be even worse when the survivor on hook is a bot on their first hook. They don't go for the 4%!

A stupid mechanic that needs reverting back.

I'm against this idea, and any other suggestions allowing people to get out early because people are not playing the way others want them to.

I just had two miserable matches, where the first was against a Huntress. We had 2 gens left and only 1 hook. 2 Survivors downed, and Huntress hooks one, who kills themself on hook. The other did the same on their second hook. The second had 2 people disconnect the moment they saw it was a Knight. Finally, we had a trial with one guy named something like "Stop DC Penalties" (not the actual name), who disconnected on the loading screen for no real reason, other than a Badham Offering.

The situation is already problematic, without adding yet more ways for people to leave. As you said, this would be abused, so adding something which will a) be knowingly abused, and b) would make it worse, is not something I cam be onboard with.

I feel like killers should be able to just open the gates whenever they want to.

This is probably the most fair way of doing things, however I'm not a fan of giving either side a "give up" option tbh

If we were forced to create a give up method, it would be something like after 10 minutes the killer can open the door. Survivors meanwhile get a way to bleed out faster. These we feel would be the least abusable.

That said, we're getting sick of seeing people talking about ways to leave the match early

You know that doesn't help one bit, right?

Once you are in a match any DC reason but the server crashing will give you a penalty.

Yes, a valid suggestion in itself.

But you always have to think the whole thing through carefully before implementing something like that.

As someone has already said: If the killer opens the exit gates (if there are still gens left to do) and thus starts the end game, all of his perks and also his power should be deactivated at the same time so that game mechanics cannot be used to his advantage, just one example.

If all survivors DC in a match and the killer is left with 4 bots, the killer should either be allowed to DC too (without penalty) or the bots should be programmed so that they run out directly when the killer opens the exit gate.

On the survivors side there could also be something like this where a special voting(majority) can take place when specific conditions are met.

But here too, the criteria for such a special vote would have to be chosen very strictly in order not to abuse the system to one's advantage (wrong killer, wrong map) as a reason for an instant ff vote.

This would be a great change to the game. Maybe not whenever they want but when certain criteria have been met to give the match a chance.

The problem is survivor side already has ways to give up. Be that let go on hook or simply just go find the killer and point at the hook as a sign they are giving up. survivors have always had a way to get out of a game they don't want to be in.

Agreed there has to be a lot of things thought through before implementing anything like this.
Regarding DC i believe that if any single player D/Cs withing x amount of minutes of the game then the entire game is ended, some bonus blood points given to the rest of the survivors/killers left in the game and everyone gets to que for another game.

Some form of "out" is needed for many reasons for example like u said if 4 disconnects and 4 bots. I don't want to be in a game with 4 bots however at the very least they will slam gens if u leave them alone.

This only works before the game has fully loaded in. Both survivors and killers do it if a map offering is played that is usually getting abused because of a bug or many other reasons. I will always stand by the fact that disconnecting before a match begins is fine because no one is commited to that game untill the game officially starts.

Something tells me if the killer could decide they didn't wanna bother when they noticed the smallest inconvenience at the start of the match, some people would have their minds changed on the topic of "just go next". You'd also probably have less map offerings get used.

What does "abusing deep wound mechanics" mean?

  • Jay_K
    Jay_K Member Posts: 470

in this instance it was a 4 man group running a specific perk set that meant that despite going down constantly they were able to quickly heal off the floor and basically have permanent deep wounds. similar to the videos posted by skerms and others have done.

It worked because they are very good at the game and i play a handful of games per week so am at a lower skill bracket so no disputing that. But as i was playing wraith who in a single loop has no power I had no chance to snowball because by time i got 3 people down (all 4 were together at all times) the last one got the first down back up and the deep wounds + metal of man activates meaning everyone is back up. Basically rince and repeat this.

i say abusing. its more like just using perks in a very specific way to basically be immortal in the 4 man group and this type of gameplay is purely down to bad perk design by the devs unfortunately.

If other games can have a "vote to kick" button, we can get a "vote to end match" button.

Personally I love a way to end a unwinnable match as killer or devs improve the matchmaking. Imo this game has way too many one sided matches thanks to the horrible matchmaking system. 90% of my games are either me stomping the survivors or survivors running circles around me. For example last night I played two games as nemmy. The first match of the night was miserable, I could only drop one person and survivors was able to pop 3 gens very quickly. At that point I said ggs and just waited at the gate bc there was no coming back from that and I was just completely miserable. After that match tho I had the compete opposite experience where I completely destroyed a group of survivors, having 3 of them in death hook at 4 gens. That wasn't really fun for me either believe it or not.

At end of the day I understand why ppl don't want a give up button but if that's not the solution then we need to look into making one sided matches less common. Either a catch up mechanic or just better matchmaking.

i remember seeing a video from someone on twitter the last time they removed DC penalties where they were playing killer and just disconnecting every time a map they didn't like loaded

Sounds about right. Alot of survivors do that if they see a killer they don't like. If killers could immediately "go next" without a DC penalty, I don't think Erie of crows would get much playtime. You'd see the exit gates open before hearing the terror radius.

When Killer want to be able to open Exit Gates at any time match not going their way but can't be bothered to open Exit Gates during End Game and complain about 99 Gates.

  • Jay_K

I dont understand killers who do this tbh. If the game has gone bad the moment that last gen is done the gate is opened by me to force a quick endgame.

Some way to open the gate during the match if killers want out i think is a good idea but it has to have limitations. X amount of time played for example so you can't just load in, get borgo and leave. I get surivors can do this which i think sucks.
To stop survivors doing it i would suggest that "attempt to escape" doesn't reduce your hook timer. 3 chances to try to escape then you dangle for the entire hook state only being able to escape in stage 2

Acknowledging the fact that I'm very intolerant of quitting, and against it in all of it's forms...

The penalty for quitting though is short on your first offence... killers quitting is not like survivors quitting, in the fact you're mostly punishing yourself. It still sucks the fat one cause killers who pitch a fit just cause they're losing does make the game uninteresting for non-toxic survivors... however it's less damaging on the whole for a killer to quit and it's also far more rare.

You always have the chance to snag a kill, so quitting is not something I see being common for killer at all, and should never be that common or encouraged....

So if this is the type of game that forces you to quit, what's wrong with just DCing and taking a 1 minute penalty for the most extreme cases? Unless you're doing in more often than that, it should never be an issue...

that and imagine how bad MMR would get, not that it's not already bad with survivors sacrificing themselves.
