Dbd reached the lowest player count for a long time
How could that be?
Lol.

the new hero shooter just launched, a possible reason..

If you compare to last year at this time they are higher year over year. The game seems to be doing ok and will likely jump in players when the event starts. That said, I find the game in its current state borderline unplayable for survivors and play much less than ever.

I feel like player count always dips after Oct-Nov. Sure you could argue people should want to stick around for the winter event or whatever but they're never as cool as the Halloween ones and I mean it is a "horror" game. (More like horrorible amirite lol) Plus with the new killer being lackluster as opposed to chucky who was released around this time last year there's really not much grabbing the average players attention atm.

Remember infinites? Just think about how far we've come

I mean just because the game was awful before does not make it not awful now. The game was so unbalanced on release there was nowhere to go but up, it's not an accomplishment.

The only source of playercount I know of is SteamCharts and frankly it doesn't look like a significant drop.
Month View:
You can see there's been some dips over the last month.
Avg Player Comparions:
November 2024 - 38,567.9 | November 2023 - 32,637.9 | November 2022 - 33,591.9
Last 30 Days 36,189.2 | December 2023 - 31,258.8 | December 2022 - 32,684.5
Ultimately, there's nothing to really worry. If the playercount dropped below 20K and stayed there then there might be an issue. Otherwise it's just looking like the same playercount you can expect for this time of year.

Steam isn't the primary platform, hate to break it to ya it isn't 2016

So It's whatever amount is on steam + the console players? 32,684 + X = >32,684.
Ultimately, there's nothing to really worry about. If the player count dropped below 20k and stayed there we would be fine because we have the console players too. It's just looking like the same player count you can expect for this time of year.

All I'm saying is I'll take current awful over past awful any day.

Yeah balance is a paradise compared to the old days.

Plus the Epic players as well.

The game was being carried by novelty game modes this year. These new modes brought in a lot of players. The novelty has worn off as shown by how much lower the player counts were in the second version of 2v8. It wasn't going to keep that high forever. The population is just going back to where it would usually be. The game will probably dip well below 30k and then shoot up again when the FNAF chapter releases.

Steam is the only platform that we can get actual numbers from and likely other platforms are experiencing the same trend that steam is. Which is to say rather stable numbers for the time of year we are in.

No event on yet. 2v8 just ended. A free weekend ended lately. There's now Shoulder the Burden, which makes it so the Killer can't really pressure as well if enough people are coordinated and use it. There's Thrill of the Hunt creating REALLY NASTY hex perk setups.
I'm not surprised playercount is low. StB will need a nerf; Thrill is getting one next patch. Game isn't in the best state with this chapter release and it shows.

I'm personally not playing until Thrill is reverted, but the game is fine. Player count has been more or less steady for 3 years now.

Game will survive.

If we don't get at least three doom and gloom the game is dying posts a week I feel something is off.....
2 -
It's still the main one though. Especially now that cross progression is a thing.

How is it the main one? More people play DBD on the various PlayStations than do on Steam? Altogether the consoles vastly outnumber all of those on PC combined.
