    I play both sides about equally.

    Four little tricks I've discovered that I've found effective, or at least fun - although I wouldn't try all of them in serious matches.

    Killer:

    • Franklins + Weave Attunement is a bit weak now but combined with Insidious (or any sort of undetectable killer)…whack survivor, break off chase, hide near item and jump out when someone comes and grabs it. Utterly hilarious. Ghostface is incredible at this.
    • Human Greed + Hoarder + event offerings is actually quite strong right now, if you want something different. LOTS of aura reading, especially on smaller maps.

    Survivor

    • Lara's perk Finesse is sleeper insane. It completely throws off experienced killers timing wise. There are quite a few perks like this which, while not meta, are both uncommon enough and effective enough that they are really potent.
    • It seems like common sense, but generally try to do the 'middle' gen as soon as possible on most maps, as this can help prevent 3gen situations from occurring later.

    Sometimes it can be a good idea to 99 your deep wound against Legion; stabbing a frenzyd Survivor immediately ends your power so if the killer isn't careful they'll be immediately taken out of it

    Tunnel, tunnel and tunnel... It works. Also proxi camp with Pyramid head, when a survivor goes for the unhook use secondary attack to hit both of them. If timed well you can follow up with a standard attack on the unhooked survivor and hook them again. The survivor unhooking will need to heal before trying again or it will result in potentially both survivors being downed fast.

    The "consider putting a few % of progress on a gen if you're passing by" tip is really good: not only can this trick killers into thinking someone is around and wasting some time searching, but it also makes it easier for fellow survivors to find gens, simply by hearing them in their vicinity, which is particularly helpful on indoor maps of course. And yes, the gen might absorb a Pain Res that could have otherwise retained its token, or a Deadlock that might have otherwise blocked a more important gen. Of course, there is the risk of giving the killer the ability to proc Nowhere To Hide, Oppression, Unforeseen or the like on the gen.

    I'll just drop two random little tips for either side:

    As survivor, you can drop your item to fake vaulting a pallet or window due to the grunt your character makes when doing so. This is particularly neat against Spirit or Dracula, but it can also be used on tiles where line of sight is broken. Obviously this can only fake a slow vault though, unless you're using Quick & Quiet, so use accordingly.

    As Legion, if most or all survivors are already injured, you can still use Frenzy to traverse the map a little more quickly. And to get the maximum possible distance, you want to lunge at the latest possible moment of your Frenzy timer, getting just that slight bit more. Yes you'll have to go through fatigue at the end of Frenzy, but you still cover more distance using it even when accounting for fatigue. Also something a lot of people don't seem to know: You can pick up survivors while in Frenzy.

    Ghostface isn't as weak as you might think in chase. He's not intended to BE chase, but he has capability in chase to create hesitation moments that really only checkspotting counters.

    For one, he can use crouch especially if running Leather Sheath in a way that creates situations where he's hard to see, like Chucky. For another, a lot of Survivors rely on the red stain to handle chase around 50/50s. Hiding your Red Stain in chase makes it much harder to read you around 50/50s, which means the Survivor can't tell where you're at.

    His hitbox, a bit like with Sadako, is slightly smaller, so he can hug walls a bit more (not as much as Chucky can but it's similar). Has to do with his Lean mechanic. If you get close to walls and especially if you crouch, it can make you really hard to notice.

    Really the only issue you should ever be having as Ghostface in chase is with strong and god pallets, or with checkspots. Everything else is just mindgames, proper Shroud use, and crouching if you have Leather Sheath on. If you don't run Leather Sheath, then don't use the crouch as that only slows you down. You can even create dangerous situations in strong tiles like Shack or strong Mains this way. Now that he basically has basekit Walleye's Matchbook, it's easier than ever to use Shroud in chase like this, and fun too!

    Some maps have sound effects that hide or obscure Ghostface's in-Shroud noises. Amplify this effect by running cosmetics that have fewer straps or flaps, and less bright masks. Survivors are looking for the straps and mask, and listening for the rustling. Minimize those. The Stealthiest I have found are Bush Hunter, Scarecrow mask, any non white mask, and Classic Robes (though the latter won't work on bright maps like Coldwind).

    Just like in real life, consider areas of shadow and light. The direction of lights on some maps can give you away.

    You can slide with the Lean around corners a bit, I've heard this referred to as Ghost-Surfing.

    Knowing when to drop chase, hang back and stalk is critical to playing him right. 99ing and "milking stalk" while someone tries to reveal around a corner IS intentional and IS the intended play. That's not a bug or glitch, he's supposed to be able to duck behind objects to stop a reveal so he can gain a little bit more stalk.

    Being Revealed isn't all bad, it gives you info and it's expected you might be revealed some of the time. You can use the Reveal to find Downed Survs who crawl away, or Survs who try to hide in corners to deny the hatch and prolong the game. You can use the Killer Instinct to track and predict where people are going. If you find you're having a bad Reveal day (which happens!), consider running addons that give you a benefit on being Revealed - Night Vision Lens is a good one since it counters problem perks like Sprint Burst or Finesse.

    Ghostface is one of the only Killers for which Proxying a hook is acceptable behavior in order to gain stalk. He's also one of the few Killers punished for lurking too much around hooks or a slug down. If a Ghostface is doing this, they are either stalking you or they're an idiot who doesn't know how to play him.

    Small survivor tip: if you press space to start a vault, you can let go of shift until the vault is completed and you won't lose speed, but your exhaustion will go down since you're not holding shift. If you don't let go of shift during a fast/medium vault your exhaustion timer won't go down.

    For Killers and Survivors: You do NOT have to hold a button to complete most actions!

    Go to Options and change the interaction behavior from "Hold" to "Toggle"

    This allows a Survivor to only press a button once to repair a generator rather than holding it the whole time.

    For Survivor, be sure to turn on Run to Cancel.

    It allows Killers to break pallets and walls with one tap instead of a press and hold.

    Probably a common knowledge thing but as survivor whenever thr killer is closing in out in the open, its possible to swerve left then right or right then left in a quick movement wich tends to throw most console killers/some pc killers off making them miss their attack due to slower turning controls. Doesnt work everytime because the counter to it is to just close distance and not turn to hit the target, but it can take them a few tries to adjust to that. When you have no other option that just might give you the extra distance.

    Please play a match with those settings for Survivor and let me know how it felt!

    Toggle and Run to Cancel. Select both.

    It's beautiful. Work on a generator? One tap until you have to bolt. Heal a teammate? Same. Heal yourself with medkit or self care? Same. Just one press.

    You do still have to hit skill checks but this relieves so much stress.

    I see a good chunk of Survivors say it's boring to sit on a generator and hold a button. I'm guessing a few will benefit from this.

    You're going to be in heaven. If you play on console, you can relax more as your Survivor auto repairs the generator (minus skillchecks) while you look around for stealth killers. You'll know what I mean when you feel it. Just don't forget to also turn on Run to Cancel. Can't wait to hear how your experience is! Have fun!

    Tips for Solo Q survivors that are basic but never used.

    1. Stop running what some streamer told you is meta in Solo Q. Those builds are meant for teams that can communicate and get the best usage from them. You're way better off with basic aura perks like Bond/Deja Vu/Windows so on than some anti camp/tunnel build.
    2. You don't need to immediately unhook especially if a killer is camping. You're helping the team more staying on a gen for 40-50 seconds and rescuing right before the next stage.
    3. If a Billy/Bubba is camping a slug. See above. DO GENS. That survivor may be lost there's no reason to throw the match for everyone by giving him a free snowball in the first 30 seconds.
    4. I'd everyone else has a hooke stage and you dont , for the love of God it's your turn to take a chase. Forcing the killer to spread hook states can win a match! Even if you go down in 20 seconds at least noone is on death hook now.
    5. Team up to go for unhook after the gens are done! The killer is going to camp but usually swarming them can get that person off hook and everyone out.

    I wish more survivors understood the importance of NOT doing safe edge gens first but instead trying to hammer out mid gens ASAP.

    I feel like I can judge a survivors intelligence in game when I see them also join me in making the mid, or at the very least the unsafe gens first. As a solo queue veteran this is unfortunately the exception not the rule and it means I am often the one who gets found first, as I take the biggest risks gen wise because I know doing the wrong gens first dooms the team in the end.

    I came to DBD after the covid area Warzone when that game started to deteriorate. In that looting chests, reloading, putting on armour plates by default you had to hold the button down. From that I knew how important toggle instead of button hold could be. After a few days of trying to do skill checks, look around for stealth killers and holding down a button all at the same time on a controller and plenty of missed skill checks, I realised toggle was a thing. Plus I was a scared baby survivor back then running Spine Chill but bricking it against a Ghost Face which was quite common as it was Halloween 2021!

    Toggle is 100% a game changer on controller. Really didn't realise people didn't know and held a button continually still!

    This is a great thread really then. If it helps even one person, then that's one person who's DBD experience will be greatly improved!

    Keep the tips coming guys however obvious they might seem. Even if it helps just one or two people then it's info we'll shared.

    This huge on certain maps. Places like Ormond, Shelter Woods, RPD, the newish map with the cinema that's the same relm as Garden of Joy. Also several others. Get those done early and even a mobile killer can struggle to protect gens spread out later on.

    Also leave gens in high up buildings such as the cinema map, Dead Dawg Saloon, Coal Tower for as late as possible as they are time sinks to check. A lot of killers won't bother patrolling them early on as they are waste too much time instead of protecting gens close together at ground level. Survivors do those early on and killers will be pleased!

    Its really helpful especially on maps like Ormond but there are some downsides in solo que.

    One downside is that other survivor will bring the killer to your gen but thats not even that bad bc delaying the first down is good and even if the killer stays near other gens get done in that time. But it would be bad if you are a survivor who cant loop and then you are downed next to the middle gen.

    So maybe only confident survivor should do it, but if we are honest the best play as good survivor in solo que is to run straight to the killer to bait first chase.

    The other problem with solo que is that you dont know how good the first chase will be. So chances are high that the killer can hook his first target and is still in time to stop the middle gen.

    My own tips:

    Do not double the gens at the start. Doing solo gens is normally better. Except if you can double the middle gen and finish it.

    You also should not do safe gens first like Saloon Gen on Dead Dawg (safety depends on the killer) and you should target 3gens. But never target a three gen when the killer protects it. Do the easy gens first and maybe bait some kicks on the 3gen to reach the kick limit easier.

    Honestly for new players: JUST TAKE DEJA VU

    Maybe a nitpick but I don't think it matters if the killer is protecting the 3 gen early.

    .If their goal is to 3 Gen you, you may as well try and knock it out early as possible. You're going to have to break that 3 gen at some point so it doesn't much matter if it's at 5 gens or 1 if the killer is intent on that 3 gen ending.

    Kind of just have to play it by match. A good strategy can be hiding for 5-10 seconds while a teammate does the gen IF you know the killer is coming, then rotating onto it once their chase starts. Don't just hide to waste time all match of course. Talking an ultra specific scenario.

    But your winning condition is to get 5 gens done, not to break the 3gen. So if you do it early, you still have 4 gens left (if the killer doesnt dc right away). So now he could try the second best 3gen or worse: change tactics and tunnel the person who got hooked the most while breaking the 3gen.

    Why should you ever not take the free 4 gens? Sometimes the killer even grows impatient, runs out and then you can sneakily to the 3gen.

    But yh the worst case would be one guy attacking the 3gen alone and wasting every ressource in the vicinity. But if everyone is smart, just let the killer waste their time. (Maybe attacking early against a trapper, so he cant trap everything, but you can also just always take a hit and leave the 3gen)

    The main benefit is hook stages to be honest. End game everyone or at least probably everyone is on 2nd hook and you might even be down to 3 v 1 which is going to make popping that gen harder.

    Early game everyone is at 0 stages and if you're lucky you can at least progress the gen a decent amount while the killer is in their first chase before they have time to start defending it as hard.

    AAlso you want that corner gen away from everything else end game. Popping it early does get you a head start when you think of it as just 1 of 5 done, but the reality is it hinders you late game.

    Also even a killer defending a 3 gen shouldn't be giving 4 free gens. They are still going to watch the others, it's just they are going to focus on those 3 when they start progressing.

    In theory yes if the killer gives you 4 free gens take them but that's not how most matches will go.

    Team mates almost always do the damn main cinema gen first on Unknowns map (Greenville), or the far end fountain one, so you're left with a tiny patrol area of mid gens which inevitably creates a long and tedious war of attrition that killers tend to win as resources (pallets) get used up all around these gens.

    This map drives me insane for that reason as it really could be neutral to actually quite survivor sided due to the sheer number of filler pallets but ONLY if survivors did gens correctly

    If the killer can get hook stages etc and hold the 3gen at the same time, its a survivor problem. Bc if he can get fast downs like that, he would win anyway.

    Your talking about a survivor-made-3gen and yh here you should get it out of the way first. But thats a completely different 3gen.

    You cant hold a 3gen while getting downs except if you can chase in your 3gen or get really fast downs, both the survivors fault.

    Hillbilly tip if you are on PC. Use Q and E for turning, makes using the chainsaw so much easier.

    Patience, above all else. If you go at it expecting to find something straight away, you’ll only find the ones willing to show themselves. Keep the time of day in mind, too. There’s a reason the saying about the worm is what it is, though don’t count out late evenings either. You’ll essentially want to go when there’s as few disturbances as possible.
    You’ll also have to develop a sense of where you can find what, and what to listen out for. That requires practice, though a simple bit of research will help you understand what’s around you. Eventually, you’ll be able to guesstimate the rough locales of a species just by looking at a picture of them.
    It’s more or less the same with sounds. Over time, you’ll learn to associate specific sounds with specific species, and even learn to recognise different calls within the same species. To help you identify sounds, you can install an app on your smartphone.

    Oh you didn’t mean birdspotting. Uh-

    YeYeah I didn't mean it to sound rude, I just meant in my experience that wasn't really accurate so like you said it's not worth it to try and change someone's perspective when it's going to be based on their experience in the game.

    Undetectable perks do in fact work on Trickster as his Lullaby is at his loudest within 20-30m from him and fades away as he gets closer, (also further) eventually becoming completely quiet at 8m.
