“There is too many license chapters”

I don’t get the complaint of too many license chapters that YouTubers and people complain about. Every calendar year it’s been 2 licenses and 2 original or that one time it was 3 original 1 license. Maybe there talking about the half chapters like Alan wake and Lara Croft but doing a half original survivor chapter that often would be a bit boring. Newest guy to complain is pixelbush. I like original chapters but ngl license chapters will always be more interesting due to the fact that they generally come out in better shape. What do you guys think

I like both licensed and unlicenced chapters. There hasn't been too much or too little of either. The only way I don't like licensed chapters is when they take a famous horror character, and make them super bullyable by survivors.

The complaint is legit. License chapters have been slowly becoming a crutch because we went from franchises that fit the tone of Dead by Daylight (Halloween, Nightmare on the Elm Street) or at least make sense in terms of interdimensional travel (Stranger Things, Hellraiser) to Resident Evil and Castlevania. To me, it feels like BHVR is less eager to try their own strength at making original Killers and rely more on the work done before them and not by them, knowing that more people will buy the new chapter with a popular franchise attached to it. Why try for something new? Why explore horror tropes and come up with creative monsters that are homage on well-known horror franchises while being their own thing? Just slap a FNAF animatronic on, don't think too hard about it.

I'm not even talking about the horrible treatment some of the licensed Killers get: strong at launch, but then absolutely gutted and reverted to garbage tier. Kinda feels that once they exhaust their purpose (milk as many players for money as possible), they are just tossed aside. I don't care if it's not the devs' intention, this is exactly what it looks like.

I don't care as long as the killer is fun to play as and to face.

Too bad that most killers aren't either of them.

I mean, lets be real. New players don't come for the original killers. They come for the iconic slashers, and stay for the new killers. Licensed chapters will always bring in more new players then any original chapter could ever dream of.

While I'd like to go back to the old way of "2 original, two license" per year, it should never go back to more then 2 original per year. Original killers are great for the already existing player base, but they do absolutely nothing for players who are thinking about giving DBD a try.

I mean, have licenses historically always come out better?

Like, original characters give much more liberty with just about everything. BHVR's not beholden to the fantasy of an IP, can make large scale changes at any point, can write tome stories for them, etc..

If original killers like Hound Master, Skull Merchant or Knight? I really don't want that. Very boring killer to play as or against.

But i am fine with killers like Singularity or Unknown, very fun killers.

tbh, I don't like too many licensed chapters (not as in the frequency at which they get released but the total number, regardless of over how many years they have been released) simply because perks are in a place where there are a number licensed perks that have a huge impact.

As someone who's played a lot and puts about 20€/year into the game - be that via DLCs, cosmetics or what have you - then that's fine. - But a new player who doesn't want to spend literal thousands of hours unlocking og charcters and wait for months until a licensed perk is in the shrine so that they can fully play the game will have to pay a significant amount of money - far more than the game is worth.
