Why are people so addicted to Bloodpoints?

What I want to say is that everything BHVR does results in BP and I feel like the community always wants more regardless of how much they offer.

BHVR always gives BP when the game is broken, in mystery boxes, in redeemable codes, when you watch a live stream, in events that happen or when it simply wants to.

I understand that from the perspective of a new player this is very good since DBD's Grind is very extensive but it is not as bad as it used to be but I also understand that from a veteran player's perspective, he really has nothing to gain.

For veteran players who had already achieved several things before the grind change, BP became a little useless because the change not only benefited everyone in general, which is really a good thing, but it made life a lot easier for those who had already provided everything the game had to offer at the time.

I feel like BHVR could offer other cooler rewards but why do that when they know the community always wants BP...

It certainly depends on how far along you are in the grind. I'm at about 2,200 hours in the game now, but that has been over the course of 6 years as I'm a pretty casual player. I have bought/played maybe half the killer roster and a bit more of the survivor roster, and am at the point now where I have pretty much everything I want that I can spend bloodpoints on. I have one survivor up to P100 and am working on getting a killer to P100 but I really don't care at all about prestige levels - it's just really the only thing there is left to do. For a player like me, I would much rather have auric cells or shards to buy cosmetics for the characters that I play regularly. I understand why BHVR doesn't hand those out like candy the way they do BP - it means less revenue for them because people aren't spending money on auric cells.

What else could we earn currency wise?

And BP - I play almost the entire roster of killers and a fair bit of survivor, so it hardly goes to waste.

You can show them to us!

I'm always down to see some impressive collections.

I honestly don't understand either. BPs have almost never been a problem for me past the first 100 hours, and I play several killers with double pink add-ons, still have no trouble repleneshing them faster than I spend them. I actually hated the BP rework we got in 2022 because it only makes me spend more time in bloodwebs overall.

One thing that I find particularly puzzling is not just the exteme appeal for BPs in the community, but also the fact high-prestiged players asked BHVR to hide prestige levels. Like, I totally understand you don't want killers to dodge, but then why did you spend so much time accumulating BPs to P100 a character in the first place? It's not like the game really forces you to get P100, if you split between 3-4 characters you'll be able to play for thousands of hours while still being only prestige 10-20.

That’s honestly a great question… I guess I have to even acknowledge that I’m addicted to Bloodpoints in the first place.

They’re just so… delectable. I can’t help it. I need as much as possible. 🤤

number go up make brain go brrrrrr

personally these days I don't play enough to level new characters (or old characters for shrine perks) that fast so the extra BPs are welcome.

It's one of the only means of progression in this game and people always want to feel like they are working towards something. Gifted BP feel like a way to get closer to some greater goal.

A live service game needs to get players into some kind of arbitrary grind. Otherwise, they just play until they are done with the campaign or any equivalent of that. Meaning you don't keep players invested for a long time and have a hard time covering the costs of future content.

It's the same reason why battle passes are so successful. You get people to pay so they can spend more time grinding for something, which gives you more opportunities to sell them even more stuff.

I dont know. Its such a pain to level, but i still do it when i reach the bp cap. Mostly with the autospend-function while watching a video.

I would like an instant prestige-button for 1 or 1,5 million bp.

Like many aspects of DBD, the bloodpoint grind is more geared towards newer players and casuals rather than long term players. With so much to unlock the bp is always needed unless you already have almost everything, which the masses do not.

    1. The game is a neverending grind, especially for new players
    2. People want to get to P100
    3. The bloodweb is clogged with useless crap no one wants but has to buy anyway
    4. Even though there are always BP events, in terms of time investment, the relative value of BP is lower than a third-world currency
    5. If you use a wide array of characters, the BP need is even greater

I used to care more back when I used to bring items. I stopped when Weave came out and I guess got used to not bringing them because I have no desire to now. So bp isn't as exciting to me as it used to be but it's still nice to pour into my favourites.

I never cared either tbh. I was always more of a shard guy lol.

Honestly i'd be fine if they stopped waterboarding us with BP and instead boosted BP gain for Survivors. I'm willing to put up with lots of crap as Survivor for a crapload of BP in return…

Oh, and extra BP events always bring people who want to sweat hardcore for that extra BP boost, so you get Killers who hardcore make SURE they down you and then hook you and guard the hook, and Survivors who hardcore genrush out the wazoo.

    Fun!

I agree with @Saiph that the idea of not having any item / addons problems since the first 100 hours, though I feel like that might even be an exaggeration.

My example: when I first started playing I played Claudette and thought I was suppossed to just put all my BP into one character. She's prestige 30 and I haven't actually used her in a long time. She has 79 syringes and 116 BNPs.

To the OP's post: I get having the BP as some kind of background goal, but am surprised with the posts that come out that min-max BP gains. But being so many people are thrilled with BP, no real need to do a different incentive structure.

Ive said this for awhile but honestly Bloodpoints, while important, are not as important as Iridescent Shards (for new players). The Prestige Rework has left a majority of characters in a state where you can often get them to Prestige 3 and unlock all their perks before you even have enough Iridescent Shards to unlock a different character.

Granted, BHVR has gone back and made older Chapters/Paragraphs cheaper in terms of Iridescent Shard prices, I still think the issue persists for new players, and often not talked about.

Some play styles are locked behind BP on the killer end.

Playing double iri Myers is expensive taste
